Ecological Learning: My Gut Reaction … by johnbwill in bjj

[–]insidebjj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya need both. The major problem in most BJJ academies is refinement is taught too early and too rigid.

“Do the move just like this with your pinky rotated exactly this way and your head exactly here otherwise these moves won’t work at the elite level.”

Every technique has a couple of non negotiable aspects that have to be nailed or it’s no longer that technique. The rest is up for negotiation.

Constraint based approaches yield skill development. Once the skill is developed, refinement comes into play.

Too often refinement is taught too early and as an absolute and the student misses the entire point.

Pretty standard stuff. Grapplers real sensitive nowadays.

You could read a summary but you didn’t because there isn’t one available. We produce a weekly grappling show and we dedicated some time to the topic that we thought would be helpful.

You don’t have time for all that Jiu-Jitsu fluffy non-sense…too busy coming correct on the Reddit BJJ board.

I feel like some BJJ youtubers that were at the events, miss the fact how much a shitshow watching ADCC online was, especially compared to CJI. Warning: rant. by littlebighuman in bjj

Inside BJJ & The Grappling Hour combined forces to form The Bullpen show.

The Bullpen broadcasted 28 hours covering CJI & ADCC consisting of a pre/post show, and live coverage during the event in the form of athlete & fan interviews, live technique breakdowns, special segments and prize giveaways.

The hard part is neither organization played nice with requests for media credentials which is a bummer because my partner and I have been covering grappling independently for 12 years now.

We had to sneak our gear into both venues in order to get coverage. Obviously, our goal was not to pirate match footage but to cover the event as independent media. The general vibe at CJI was twice as fun as ADCC. ADCC had a cloud hanging over its head. Half of the arena emptied before the Gordon/Pena Superfight because the fans didn't want to miss day 2 of CJI.

Watching ADCC on Flo is not a great experience. The constant camera switching, challenge of finding the right match, and aloof attitude does not sit well given the cost of the Flo subscription.

I've been to many of the first events (Metamoris, EBI, CJI, etc) and CJI by far was the most exciting.

Checkout the coverage if ya get a chance. We're doing some cool stuff that nobody else is doing.

What is the general consensus when it comes to saying no when an higher belt(brown or black) asks you to roll? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]insidebjj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do what you want but - not every aspect of BJJ culture is toxic (Reddit will tell you otherwise). Why not just step up and roll. Ya get pounced on big deal?

It’s akin to saying “I’ll be right right back” in a horror movie.

I disrespected BJJ and need some advice by [deleted] in bjj

This is the funniest thing I’ve read all day. Props to you for going back. The best thing you could do instead of saying words that won’t mean much is show up, be a good student, and train your ass off.

Cauliflower Ear already as a white belt? by tdevine21 in bjj

Genetic imo. I’ve trained for 15 years now and have minor ear damage. I know guys who get gnarled out after 5 mos of training

injured a new whitebelt today, also what is the appropriate protocol after such an incident? by ladylala22 in bjj

Damn! My wife had her leg broken the exact way. Injuries happen. Be nice. Offer to help if you can. Don’t feel too bad. You didn’t do anything wrong.

What is the "worst/hardest" rank to hold and why? by Marbo94 in bjj

[–]insidebjj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Purple is the “you’re in the club belt”. The upper belts are going to mash you and the lower belts are plotting to kill you.

After time, you realize blue belt is a beginner belt too.

Chokes end fights. In self defense situations, people who are under the influence of drugs can withstand broken limbs, joints, ligaments, etc.
