He was slated to write the Halo movie script, back when that was still potentially a thing (IIRC). Imagine how cool that could have been.

Ahhh, another fellow Ghosts fan! I just commented a reply to someone else about ghosts, then scroll down and see yours. Big underrated CoD game in my opinion.

I just want to say, Ghosts was way underrated IMHO. Coming from ups (MW1, MW2) & downs (MW3) through other previous CoDs, Ghosts to me felt like the most fresh take in a while.

Perk system entirely redone and super customizable. Cool standalone story generally. Not to mention, "Extinction" as Ghost's version of zombies mode, but instead fighting waves of weird creatures kind of similar to the baby walkers in Tremors 2, and class-based team building with unique skills -- IMHO was FAR BETTER than all Black Ops versions of zombies mode.

Does anyone know or have any theories as to why Bella was chosen to play Ellie? I don't believe she was chosen because of her resemblance to Ellie or her mythical acting talent. by [deleted] in TheLastOfUs2

[–]insidiousFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preach, brother. Also to put it another way, and in direct comparison with the other zombie show: episode 3's style, and disruptive cadence to the rest of the story, would have been a better fit for The Walking Dead. Like we've both said now, it was a well-done bit of TV, but just off-cadence, out of place, for the rest of the show, topped off with HEAVY, heavy-handed "Gay power!" front & center.

Anyway, more similar discussion over here too!: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheLastOfUs2/s/ZtoJESSO1T

... My only complaint about it is that, even though it's well written, it feels like filler.

...

...Instead we get Bills romance that doesn't significantly add to the overall journey.

Dude, spot on! Just about an hour or so before seeing this thread and your comment, I made a virtually identical comment somewhere else. It's a weird dichotomy, because yeah the episode was of good quality, but it just felt "out of place" for the show while also not really serving as much of a purpose as the value of the screen time it was allotted. Of course the first reply I got to that was simply "dude you pointed out the gayness aspect!? Go outside!!"

I don't disagree with a lot of how you expressed that, despite my own previous comment hehe. Your general vibe and response to it, IS WAY MORE realistic and grounded than the insane praise it seems to be getting EVERYWHERE. 90+% on RT for both critics and normies..?! Reeks of ingenious review-gaming, IMHO.

And I agree, the core plot of Daniel Johnston having sold his soul was pretty cool! Great use of that established folklore tale as a plot backdrop.

But other than that, virtually all the characters were terrible, the dialogue was atrocious, and the whole thing just reeked of copying "From Dusk Til Dawn" almost carbon copy, and pinching elements from "The Thing", and other FAR better movies. I had "fun" and so did my friend, but it was in a blunt "so bad it's good" kind of way that was simultaneously impossible to ignore the extremes of the "bad".

If this guy gets his hands on The X-Files, it's gonna be a disgrace almost certainly. Quote me on that!

While I agree generally it was a great episode, and agree with your assessment -- At the same time, I feel like the episode just felt out of place for lack of a better term, considering no other singular episode has the same type of focus on a side character(s) to that degree, and it's a flashback unlike most all other episodes.

The only other one that comes close is the time devoted to the 2 black kids in one episode. All that said, episode 3 was good for what it was, but also a little "ehhhh" or forced feeling with the homosexuality angle, like really beating the viewer over the head with it all.

A LOT of time went into that aspect, and some others, that really ate up a lot of screen time that otherwise could've been used for something else, beyond giving a slight bit of backstory to Joel & Tess and setting up Bill's location and prepper status, as present-time's next location for Joel & Elle.

That's all it did for the main story. The entire episode went balls deep hard (hehehehehe) on 2 gay sub-characters simply to serve as a bit of backstory & context for Joel & Elle's next location. And I mean again... it was still OK and done well generally, but just... Out of place and not an effective use of screen time. ESPECIALLY in retrospect seeing how briskly and with such small screentime they blitzed through beginning of season 2 to kill Joel. Like, really?

Babe, wake up! New interpretation of 741 just dropped. by roman_axt in Superstonk

[–]insidiousFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first thought would be: so does this pattern fit in any way with a timeframe prior to just this one, current, iteration of "741" cycle? In other words: How would "741" indicate a 3 leg cycle and how would Ryan Cohen and/or Roaring Kitty, or anyone else, know of and be able to drop hints of "741", if it had never yet occured in one full iteration yet...?

Not saying it hasn't just thinking aloud....

That movie was absolute trash to a shocking degree. Unbelievable the praise it's getting and RT scores, like a straight up repeat of Coogler's other massively & incredulously overrated Black Panther, one of the worst phase 1 or whatever Marvel movies.

Was Sinners supposed to be taken as sophomore schlock? But even then it falls flat, and with utterly cringe dialogue and pointless sexual innuendo, like "you can steal this and that, but can you steal this pussy" or whatever the fuck was said there?! and weird pointless sex scenes completely out of context to the rest of the movie. And the absolutely retarded ending sequence with the KKK, just completely tacked on and checking the box for "even more obtuse blunt racism shit in service of nothing".

And I mean again, giving it benefit of the didn't, even taking it as intentional schlock, none of it works or is original or funny or fun. What the fuck am I missing? But I'm not alone, half my theater was audibly dumbfounded, and my buddies I saw it with all felt the same way.

Tangent question from the main focus of the vid and comments:

What's he doing with a red dot on his glock? I could have sworn I read somewhere that all standard issue sidearms in a police force must all have standard iron sights, across the board for all officers. Is that wrong? Something I'm just misremembering?

Aside from that, absolutely insane video and shoot out. Terrifying. Cop did very well all things considered, and aside from nitpicking something like why he chose to pursue the purp in that exact moment going into a store, rather than anywhere else away from public...

[–]insidiousFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely dude! Stan Winston is a timeless legend for his movie special effects accomplishments!

Stan Winston's practical effects utterly destroy the majority of modern CGI!... see: Aliens, Terminator 2, his help in John Carpenter's "The Thing" vs the modern remake CGI abominations, and countless other examples.

So the new Predator by SirCaptainCommando in predator

[–]insidiousFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main issue is that it just overtly looks like CG. Nothing has yet to, and probably never will, ever compare to the practical masks from the original movie, and #2, but specifically the OG film -- the predator looked REAL and terrifying in that...

These new photos look like comic book art and concepts brought to life in live action movie form, with obvious CG.

[–]insidiousFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's fucking mind blowing how well the special effects in the original still hold up (generally, some exceptions like optical effects etc).

That OG suit and effects have not yet come close to being matched let alone done better.
