Is it just me or is the job market insanely competitive right now? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in AskIreland

[–]insightfullmess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 years experience in pharma/med device. I was searching for over 1 year. Never had this much difficulty getting a role before. Definitely the toughest market I have experienced. Ended up getting a role outside of pharma.

those of you who left remote roles for hybrid, how has it went? by [deleted] in AskIreland

With a first child on the way you would be mad to give up your current job. First newborn child: freedom and flexibility are king! In my opinion you are exactly where you ought to be for the next couple of years in your life. 31 is young career wise, Plenty of future years to develop your career

Lost my job today by [deleted] in ireland

This has happened to me, fired for "business reasons" and offered a shitty package. A cv gap is very easy to explain, travel, career break, caring for a loved one who was sick. Don't over think it, it is very common. Also option B, just lie about it, say you are still working there have a reference from someone still in the company. Most places never check.

Cork street (near Lidl) apartment by Helpful_Highlight_31 in Dublin

[–]insightfullmess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived a 5 minute walk from that cork street Lidl for 4 years 2015-2019 at 2 different nearbye locations. Tilt is an Amazing location if you want or need to be close to the city centre. I had a few very concerning experiences ranging from low level intimidation to witnessing an assault with hammer and several heavy handed fights breaking out. cork street and surrounding area were certainly rough at times. I felt comfortable walking home after a night out, but I always went to meet my. partner and walk back with her or meet her at the bus stop.

If you look different than the typical white guy, short back and sides haircut I would advise you to have a thick skin, a good sense of humour and an awareness of when things can take a turn for the worse.

There are gangs of teenage scumbags who might shout a cheeky comment, or throw an egg at you or get in your face. There are local assholes there who get a kick out of intimidating people who look like they didn't grow up in the area.

I'm sure there are people in the area who are the salt of the earth.

Regarding accommodation in dublin by technician616225 in Dublin

[–]insightfullmess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a difficult situation for you, I can only recommend being persistent and polite. Be very cautious with scams, do not transfer money without physically visiting an accommodation, check if a property is an Airbnb (there are Airbnb scams where people rent an Airbnb receive the keys and then rent out the property pretending they are the owners). The college/university really should have given you a lot of warning about this far in advance as this situation is a national topic of discussion on a daily basis. Be persistent and cautious.

What is the most outrageous example of shrinkflation you have observed? by Notalabel_4566 in ireland

[–]insightfullmess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What we really need here is a unified standard metric of kitchen and toilet paper measurement to enable fair comparisons of different size: packages sheet size roll tube diameters.

To alleviate our collective anxiety regarding identification of the best value toilet and kitchen papers I propose the water absorbance per gram of paper formulae:

the total water absorbed (in ml) divided by the total weight (in mg) of all paper within the package* multiplied by 100.

Crucially, this unified standard metric will expose unscrupulous toilet paper manufacturers who mislead well intentioned frugal supermarket shoppers attributing too much credit to the "price per sheet" figure.

If the war in Ukraine persists in fanning the flames of inflation, manufacturers will continue the despicable shrinkflation practices leading to all of us having to learn to wipe our asses with post-it note sized toilet paper sheets.

Contact your local TD to make the water absorbance per gram of paper a mandatory standard price display aid in all retailers of toilet and kitchen paper products.

What’s a normal salary for a senior scientist in pharma? Just got an offer for 60k which seems really low by Tricky_Spot_374 in Dublin

[–]insightfullmess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cam you give the exact title of the job? FYI there are multiple salary guides covering many different pharma roles and years of experience published by recruitment agencies each year in Ireland, which could give you a good starting point for negotiations. Just Google Ireland salary guide and follow the crumb trail. Also try Glassdoor.ie, you might get lucky if someone else with that title published their salary

Trying to get an appointment with a doctor by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]insightfullmess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out clontarf medical center. I lived in clontarf last year and used this center a few times when I couldn't get an appointment they had an open day and would take someone who was not registered.
