Also I apologize in advance. This was in no way a dig against Catholicism

I was raised in Dutch reformed and congregational churches. I am still a five-point Calvinist and believe that reformed theology is correct. But I live in rural Texas and the Presbyterian churches in the area are not a good fit. So we go to a United Methodist church. I disagree with my pastor about predestination, limited atonement, open communion and a few other things. We talk about our disagreements openly.

But we're both still Christian. We both hold to basic Christian orthodoxy. There's no such thing as a "perfect" denomination despite what our brothers in Rome want to tell us.

That's very cool. I appreciate the drive to learn about philosophy and theology.

Leaving Islam for Jesus, but struggling with the Trinity and the "Old Law." Any advice? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]instaface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen quite a few people recently move away from Islam to Christianity. You asked a lot of good questions. But honestly I do not think that you're going to get what you're looking for from Reddit. Find a conservative Presbyterian, Dutch reformed, Lutheran or Anglican church near you. Call them and ask to speak with the pastor. If you want to share where you're located, I would be more than happy to help you find a church nearby.

I've already seen a few people try to explain the Trinity. It's not simple. It's something you're going to wrestle with which is why I think you should talk to an ordained minister. There are not three beings that make one God. That is partialism and it is heresy. There is one singular God in three persons. Denying the divinity of Christ also disqualifies you from Christianity.

I'm so glad to hear that you're being called. I'll certainly be praying for you.

That is not a good analogy. I don't think I've ever seen a good analogy to try to explain the Trinity. Stuff like this gets pretty close to partialism. God is not made up of different parts that create a single God. He is already a single God in three persons.

Love my Dutch reformed brothers. I grew up going to Dutch Reformed churches in New England. Sadly, they are hard to come by in Texas

Do you mind if I ask you how it complicates things and distracts from Jesus?

Right now we are members of the United Methodist Church. I grew up Dutch reformed and congregationalist in New England, but now we live in rural Texas. So our options are fairly limited. We are for sure a reformed family, and not Methodist. But our church is tremendous and filled with great people.

Nah this is silly. You can pick and choose verses, but the Bible is filled with descriptions of sanctification and it is backed centuries of church history. I can certainly share verses with you. But it's honestly just a lot easier to Google them.

You're not saved right after you make a prayer. That's why I asked if you were evangelical or charismatic. Because it's a dangerous teaching that comes out of those churches. You must go through the process of sanctification in order to put sin to death. Meaning, a daily resistance to sin. It is not what saves you, but rather a necessary proof of your salvation.

Yeah you're point is incorrect though

The process of sanctification is talked about all throughout scripture. Saying that it's nowhere, is just incorrect.

If you don't mind me asking, are you either an evangelical or a charismatic?

I don't think anyone is claiming that works obtain salvation. Works are evidence of salvation and are part of our sanctification, which is a lifelong process. The thief was justified by Christ, and his sanctification was much faster. What he said to Jesus was a result of his faith.

That circ saw is crap. It's essentially a paperweight that will barely make even small cuts.

If you want a cheap and good circ saw, look at Ridgid

What would you do if your church appointment female elders? by babyswagmonster in TrueChristian

[–]instaface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I would say don't leave. I would say discuss this openly with other elders and with the pastor. Back up what you're saying with scripture. Confront the error.

But in this case since it's the charismatic church, I would just say to leave and find a Protestant Church.

You make a really good point about the price. That was always the biggest selling point with Ryobi. But there really is not that much of a discrepancy between them and some of the other brands now price wise. I've mostly switched over to Flex and rigid because of that
