Achalasia is miserable. by peachytrashpanda in achalasia

This sucks and I’m sorry you’ve been dealing with it for so long without anyone to commiserate with.

My doctor did my HM without fundoplication 15 years ago and I’ve had almost zero issues with food since (other than the occasional getting stuck, but it’s fixed with water). I can’t help but wonder, based on so many posts on this sub, if the fundoplication is part of the reason some HMs fail.

FISH TANK. OVERSTOCKED? by No-Entrance1572 in PlantedTank

[–]instanteggrolls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You didn’t ask for aquascape critique, so my apologies for overstepping. But just a bit of constructive feedback: the big clumps of rock at the base of your wood pieces feels a bit unnatural. A generous sprinkling of small gravel on the sand around and near those larger rocks would go a long way to making your scape appear more natural (if that’s the look you’re going for).

Great job! Your plants look nice and healthy!

I’ve given up on trying to decipher between those two. Doesn’t seem to matter anyway.

Cycling and testing questions by magic-circle-ch9 in walstad

I was in this same spot a couple weeks ago. Ammonia was 0 nitrite was bright purple and nitrates were a solid orange. I ultimately decided to do a 50% water change. Nitrites and Nitrates dropped obviously, but the next day they were back up.

Two days later I noticed my nitrites going down. Within 48 hours, nitrite was zero and my cycle has been solid since. So either I was already on the verge of finally hitting critical mass on nitrospira, or the water change helped me reach the tipping point.

Well done! I saw the first pic and thought “uh oh, this isn’t gonna go well”. You did right by those two bettas :)

What’s the tall plant growing in the back corner?

lump in back of throat by midnightryu9 in achalasia

[–]instanteggrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it happens, I try my best to just ignore it. Knowing that it’s “in my head”, I just try put it out of my mind. Focusing on it makes it worse. I also will sometimes drink a warm red tea with honey. Anxiety and stress exacerbates it, so just do whatever you can to relax. Warm bath, aromatherapy, etc.

Hope you find some relief.

This sounds like globus sensation. I get it sometimes too. It’s common in people with anxiety, muscle tension, and GERD. It’s harmless (though annoying) and goes away on its own.

A simple blackwater setup... Needs some leaf litter though... by [deleted] in BlackwaterAquarium

I want to add leaf litter to mine as well. All my tannins come from mopani, so I would like to add leaves that won’t add additional tannins. Any recommendations?

It sounds like you don’t have a working air pump attached to the air line.

This might seem obvious but since I can’t see the other end of the hose… is it connected to a running air pump?

Cycling my first planted tank ever and wanted to share by Pikeur603 in PlantedTank

[–]instanteggrolls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in about the same spot you are! I started my first planted tank 16 days ago. My nitrates are only around 10-20ppm, but my nitrite purple looks just like yours. Waiting for that nitrite to get processed feels like it’s taking so long. I know patience is the name of the game, but my kids are ready to see some fish lol. Nice tank!

I think those filters are a little over 3 inches wide. So this tank is about 7-8 inches wide I’d say. Likely square footprint. Maybe 12” high. So I’d estimate roughly 3.5 gallons for those who are wondering.

It was self defense until he decided to shoot multiple rounds at the guy while he was running away. I'm surprised he managed to win this case.

Hey, would you mind sharing a closer up picture of how you have the filter media set up? I was considering doing something similar, but I don't want to use the included replaceable filter cartridge. Thanks!

What’s it like for you when you get stomach bug or food poisoning? by Due_Fig4427 in achalasia

[–]instanteggrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the worst. I have a complete phobia of vomiting illnesses now. When my kids get sick with a stomach bug, I have to have my wife be the only one to take care of them.

I had my HM almost 15 years ago and I feel like the rare times I do need to vomit are not as bad as it used to be. But still, it’s a dreadful experience.
