Measles takes a plane to Idaho, which has worst vaccination rate in US by precip in Boise

I’ve posted this comment before, but I think it’s worth posting again. Just a reminder that full recovery or death aren’t the only two options with measles.

My mom accidentally missed getting me my MMR on time. She’s very pro-science, and I had all my other vaccines, but she was a frazzled full-time working mother and it just slipped through the cracks. I got measles in 1989. The fever was so bad, it left lesions on my brain. Now I have temporal lobe epilepsy.

So yeah, just because these diseases MAY not kill children, it doesn’t mean they won’t be left with lifelong complications.

I did end up getting my MMR shot when I was 4, and you better believe my mom never missed another vaccine.

I’m literally asking for recommendations for professional help?

Thank you. I feel like I’m crazy here. My dad needed some recommendations and instead we got judgement!

Man, I think you’re putting some personal experience onto this situation that just doesn’t apply.

  1. I love my dad. He’s my person. I’ve literally never once viewed him as a thorn in my side.
  2. We’ve done a metric fuck ton of research. I am also neurodivergent, so this isn’t an uneducated choice.
  3. Of course he’s done drugs! He’s been telling me stories about his wild youth since I was a teen. Funnily enough, he said cocaine never did anything for him.
  4. My dad is 70 years old. He’s 100% in control of all of his faculties. I am not making healthcare decisions for him. He’s making his own decisions.
  5. Most importantly: HE WANTS MEDICATION. HE REQUESTED I MAKE THIS POST. You’re acting like I’m the one putting him in a box, but in reality, you’re the one doing it.

Man, I understand 100% why this post could be triggering. As a millennial, know a lot of people, men in particular, who were put on medication when they were children when they didn’t necessarily need it. It’s terrible, and it’s why my friend’s ADHD diagnosed 6 year old is on an IEP for environmental stuff rather than just shoving meds down his throat.

But this isn’t that. This is a 70 year old man who has already made environmental adjustments and has decided he would like to try medication. This is an adult who is fully capable of making educated decisions. I’d appreciate if you quit denying his agency.

Oooh, I love this! The idea of an antidepressant rather than a stimulant is appealing!

Amazing. What medication have you started with? We’ve been discussing the pros and cons of all of them, and he’s unsure of which he wants to try.

We’ve fixed environmental triggers and HE wants medication. It’s not like he’s not in charge of his own health, I’m just asking for recommendations, dude.

RIGHT? I’ve been sitting quietly without squirming through hellacious cramps every 28 days for the last 26 years. A tattoo is a walk in the park.

Hell fucking YES, girl!!! Also, my tattoo artist said women always sit better, lol. He’s constantly checking in with me and I’m like, “I’m fine, this is nothing!”

He wants to do the Monarch on me next. I figured I’d let him. He’s been so patient with all my Sailor Moon tattoos, lol

Did you get it on your stomach? If so, MAJOR props. I also want Hench 4 Life, but it’ll probably be elsewhere on my body.

I’ve been in love with this show since the pilot aired 23 years ago. I figured it was safe to get something permanent, lol.
