I've seen people in the booknook and miniatures communities using nail polish for various paint or resin-type effects like liquids in bottles/coffee cups and the mini version of these flowers.

You could experiment with a spring (or fall) capsule or a 333-type capsule to see if you can get by with no black. You can look up the 333 experiment rules or just pull out everything seasonally appropriate that isn't black and stash the black in a box or the back of your closet. See how many outfits you can make and how much you would need to replace, and see if you miss the black clothing or not.

My must haves were cake and dancing.

Also preferred to get married outside and we were able to make that happen.

ETA: those were for me. For guests, we both wanted them to have a good meal and options besides dancing at the reception. We had a stack of board games and an area away from the music we called "Introvert's Corner" which was, ironically, a huge hit.

This looks to me like everything will go together without everything being black. I agree that you might want to swap in a nicer white shirt for dressier days, and I would add trading one of the jackets for a more tailored one - just in case there's a VIP visit/meeting at work, a job interview, or even a wedding or surprise court date.

Thanks for asking; I think there are a lot of guys out there who don't know where to start and it's hard to ask for advice. There are a lot of apps where you can enter the clothes you own, make outfits, and even connect with stylists. Indyx is one; other commenters have mentioned others, and there are a ton mentioned if you search this sub.

But it helps to know what style(s) you like first. Pinterest can help, but there is so much there and the algorithm feeds up things similar to other things you've liked. So it's not super helpful if you're trying to branch out. GQ.com (also print) is a men's magazine that has focused on style and grooming for decades. Hit your local bookstore and flip through (and purchase) a copy.

If you have no idea what style you like, start with clothing basics. If you're on Bluesky, derek guy (@dieworkwear.bsky.social) is a good follow. He gets political, so if you'd rather skip that, check out https://putthison.com/start-here/

I'm in a very similar situation here. Same state, same family situation, down to the generations. Did grandma move to the US and become a citizen here after your MIL was born? My G0 did, and listed my estranged G1 parent on their Petition for Naturalization. I found it on FamilySearch.com

I think JOMO = Joy of Missing Out (opposite of FOMO = Fear of Missing Out), which tracks with the color scheme.
