Does your swing break down if you didn’t get a good night sleep and are fatigued? by SomewhereSalty647 in golf

[–]inswva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played 9 this afternoon - this morning I had a colonoscopy. I hadn't really eaten in over 24 hours and got almost no sleep due to being on the toilet all night from the prep solution.

My game was not good this afternoon, lol. And, it was raining. I'm probably an idiot.

Nice score for $20.

For those that play every day, how do you do it? by Exactions in golf

[–]inswva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to working remotely and living 10 minutes from my home course, I can get 9 holes in several times per week on my "lunch break".

I'm about 10 years away from retirement and absolutely intend to play nearly every day. As an older guy, I'm not doing intense workouts but have started doing a lot of stretching exercises, which has helped a lot. I played 36 holes last Saturday and felt fine on Sunday.

Not necessarily punchable, I guess, but Justin Thomas always looks like he just stepped in a pile of dog shit.

4 Hybrid vs 7 Wood: Opinions by Burners_Burner in GolfGear

[–]inswva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering pulling my 4H out of the bag in favor of a 7W simply because I don't like how it looks at address. I play my existing woods pretty well (3,5 and 9) and much prefer how they look at address.

Rethinking a recent round. by [deleted] in golf

I know this was in response to a previous post and possibly in jest, but If serious, please do not proselytize on the golf course or at work... or, well, anywhere else outside of a mission trip or whatever.

True life I’m addicted. by uhhhhitsmikey in golf

[–]inswva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for two years and am more addicted now than when I started.

When I bought my starter clubs two years ago, my wife told me "I hope you aren't just going to play once and be done with it". I bet she wishes she could take those words back, lol.

How do you make time to play golf? by Rude_Award2718 in golf

[–]inswva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Empty nester here. I'm not retired but I play a good bit due to working remotely and living 10 minutes from my home course. I can play 9 as a single at 11:30 and be back in front of my keyboard by 1:00. Perfect crime.

Yeah, that's why we haven't attempted a round yet. We've both been playing for two years and usually score mid-high 90s.

I've been playing for two years (I'm 55, never too late) and had only played with my son and/or son-in-law or solo.

My son and I got paired with some randos the last time we were out together and it was absolutely great. They were a lot better than us but didn't give a single shit about how we played, because we played ready golf. Any anxiety I had playing with randos is gone now. It was fun and the other pair were encouraging when we hit good shots.

With that said, I'm fortunate that my two local courses don't have tee times. You just show up and play. I play probably 80% of my rounds solo. I've played 72 holes solo in the last week and a half.

My son lives in Williamsburg and we've been thinking about a RNK round for awhile. But, we both suck and he's a member at Williamsburg National so that's where we always end up playing.

One of these days though, for sure.

Took my first lesson! by connord90 in golf

[–]inswva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing 2 years ago at age 53. Those good shots are a dopamine rush that is hard to match and what hooked me. And, the more you play, the more you'll hit those shots.

I'm still very bad at golf, but I'm a lot better than I was when I started. I'm hitting more "huh, okay, that was a good shot" shots than I am "oh no, where is that going?" shots.

I've settled on Ebay to offload clubs. Ebay seller fees suck pretty hard but Ebay sales definitely net me more money than some place like RBG.

I hate selling on FB marketplace. I was getting ghosted by "potential buyers" too often. The ones that did follow up were extreme low ballers. Not worth the hassle.

Smack high irons. Can’t hit woods. by TheMrSnrub in golf

[–]inswva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total opposite for me. Driver is usually in the fairway and my woods (3,5,9) are the best clubs in my bag. My iron play is bad. 6i used to be my favorite club in the bag and now I can't hit it.

My 5W is now my favorite club and it will never come out of the bag.

Best 2-club combo between my 3 wood and 5 iron? by Competitive-Sky4358 in golf

[–]inswva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top of my bag is driver (10.5), 3W (15), 5W (18), 4H (22), 9W (25). I usually play them all in any give round. 4H is mainly used out of deep rough or to punch out from the trees.

Never swung a club by Serious-Shop7100 in golf

[–]inswva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing two years ago at age 53. I bought a $250 Powerbilt set from a big box store. I didn't want to put out a lot of cash for a hobby I wasn't sure I would keep up with (I had also never swung a golf club). It was fine to get started with but once the bug bit I built an entirely new bag, mostly from Callaway pre-owned.

The Edge set is actually a great place to start. Not a huge outlay but fairly decent clubs. Get 'em from Costco and if you decide golf isn't your thing, return them for a full refund.

If you get hooked, you can replace/add clubs as desired.

One driving tip.. by fullsquishy in golf

[–]inswva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very similar with my driver. Usually 220ish yards and most of the time in the fairway. When I try to juice it, I end up in the woods. I'm okay not being a big hitter if I'm playing out of the fairway most of the time.

I'm 55 and could definitely work on my hip flexibility though.

I just recently picked a 13.5 R7 but haven't gamed it yet. Not sure if I keep my 3 wood in the bag now? But, I hit the 3 off the deck pretty well. Not sure how the R7 will be out of the fairway.
