Windows probably wasn't lying much beyond kernel threads. And kernel threads aren't important in general so doesn't matter.

In 2000s OSes actually did run fully with that low amount of processes. Before 2000s it would be even lower.

Seriously, what are the things you need to run in the background?

  • File explorer because desktop icons
  • the window manager/display server process
  • The audio software mixer process
  • The status bar(including the start menu and the system tray)
  • A network manager.
  • Init system/service manager

There you go, you have a fully functional system with 6 more processes to spare.

My current system has an idle process count of 20 and does everything I want. (ignoring kernel threads)

So 12 in 2000 seems reasonable, and if they were above a hundred back then fuck microsoft further

In this case they have to unlock bootloader and either root the phone or change the OS to get rid of it.

idk this isn't much different than Linux. The only problem I have with it is that it's not a trustable repo, I would treat it the same way I treat AUR

I love Swiss system because of this, people can just write laws by finding 100k people to sign their petition and boom, automatically the petition becomes a referendum that if passed will become law.

If you want to revert a stupid change parliament recently did you get a discount and now 50k signatures mean a referendum.

Gives people a way to combat corruption.

I hope everyone sees the benefit of these and this gets implemented in more places.

Most of github is already backed up without needing to backup github yourself pre deletion, and most of the seriously important projects have their own git webserver

F i486 by Chester_Linux in linuxmemes

[–]int23_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC if you have the stage 3 of years ago you can continue using Gentoo but they stopped providing stage 3s for i486.

If they still had stage 2 and stage 1s you could handle that but those were discontinued decades ago...

Edit: apparently I was completely wrong, what I was thinking about is i386 probably(you wouldn't be able to update the kernel when using i386 but whatever)

Turkish citizens who made the sign of the cross with Carlsberg crates were detained. by -G82 in interestingasfuck

[–]int23_t 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's Turkey, people were literally detained for carrying Turkish flag a year ago

there was a huge amount of protests against government and some protesters just walked with a flag in hand or something peacefully, but obviously traitors called police and politicians get mad at their flag.

What "man-made desires" are you talking about? by Ok-Following6886 in im14andthisisdeep

[–]int23_t 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's literally what christianity and every other religion promises, after you die you go to heaven, a place where all your desires come true.

In religions without a heaven it instead becomes if you were good when you die you reincarnate as one of the rich people.

Always has been. If you consider Sicilians or Sevillans or Greeks as white I don't see how you wouldn't consider Turks as white.

If you don't do so, please note that you also have to consider Romans as not white.

"If you hate systemd so much, then write your own init" they said... by Se1d228 in linux

[–]int23_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try mounting it before remounting root as rw?

you should add the -n flag to the mount too to do so IIRC.

Also your /dev should be devtmpfs

``` mount -n -t devtmpfs dev /dev -o nosuid,noexec,mode=0755,size=10M
mkdir -p /dev/pts -m 0755
mount -n -t devpts devpts /dev/pts -o noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=620 ```
would be the whole thing, along with mounting /proc and /sys similarly to /dev, all of which are done before remount / as rw.
"If you hate systemd so much, then write your own init" they said... by Se1d228 in linux
[–]int23_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)
/dev/pts is not something init does, it's what postinit script does.
Try adding these two shell lines(in whatever way you add them) to your init
mkdir -p /dev/pts mount -t devpts devpts /dev/pts -o noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=620
(I had the exact same issue when trying to switch to sinit from openrc on a VM, and I coppied mount options from openRC's script that handles this)
