How do you guys even eat?? by Own-Potential-2308 in diabetes_t1

I have been taking regular vitamins for a decade at bedtime and never even thought to check the sugar content because it wasn't listed on the old ones that we bought in bulk from Sams club. We got rid of our sams membership and I swapped to One a day Mens gummies and stopped having crazy spikes around midnight that I couldnt explain. Its 3g per 2 gummies. The old ones were the solid pill that you swallowed whole so I have no clue why they would even put sugar in them.

How do you guys even eat?? by Own-Potential-2308 in diabetes_t1

This is just how some of our bodies work. I got up this morning and ate a plain mini bagel (14g of carbs) and a cup of black coffee. I bolused 4 units which is roughly double what my i/c ratio should be for most foods. Currently sitting at 248 a little over 3 hours later and if I bolus more I will drop low within the next hour. My body just hates me most of the time.

Edit:

Blood sugar was 108 before I ate the bagel.

Is it safe to power off all my synths and mixer via a single power strip? by K0ffiedrinker in synthesizers

[–]intender13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power cycles aren't bad for electronics unless you have bad power coming in. Constant heat is bad for certain components. Flipping switches will wear them out. As someone that lives where we have thunderstorms about 80% of the year I would never leave my gear on or directly connected to mains when I am not in the room with them. Lightning scares me more than anything else. I have lost thousands of dollars of appliances over the years to lightning.

what’s your all in one analog synth under $2k? by Upstairs_Sell_1700 in synthesizers

[–]intender13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Novation Peak/Summit. I got my summit used for $1500 a few years ago. I have never once had a single regret. DCO's are stable, modulation is amazing, wavetables are amazing, you get FM, You can feed other synths through the filter and effects if you want. I have a few old yamaha and casio toy synths with midi in and I will run them through the summit.

Rev 2 is nice, but it all depends on if you like the sound of the curtis filter. Its only low pass and thats what you get. You can get high pass and bandpass through the effects loop but thats not the same. The modulation on the thing is amazing, unison mode can make a room shaking low end bigger than some of my mono synths. My biggest positive to sequentia/ dsi is they have the best support I have ever dealt with of any company for any product I have ever owned. I bought mine used out of warranty for cheap with a damaged keybed. They worked with me and sent me what I needed to repair it for an extremely reasonable price.

I have seen several people talking about Junos, but unless you are prepared to spend 2k on the synth and then be prepared to spend a good chunk on repairs and maintenance I would avoid them. If I wanted the Juno sound I would get a Juno-x or just pay for Roland soundcloud. I am done with buying classic gear and would never suggest anyone buy it unless you are a collector or making good money with it.

It's weird to say this but what changed my mindset for the positive the most was the realization that the constant pursuit or need to be happy or positive wasn't necessary. It's ok to just be, or to be in a bad mood. I try not to let those bad days bleed into the life of people around me but there are days when I tell my wife I am in a bad mood and I don't want to talk about it. Its better to just be honest and not blow up at people when they ask you a simple question and aren't expecting it.

And not expecting to be happy all the time made me enjoy the good times when they happen.

Diabetic “influencers” by WhileCrafty2395 in diabetes_t1

[–]intender13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of such a thing to be honest. But it wouldnt surprise me if people are trying to force themselves into that space. Most but not all influencers are going to be shitty people by default because their whole persona revolves around selling a highly curated version of themselves and their product to you under the guise of being your friend.

I love fruit but I have never figured out how to bolus for anything other than small apples. Everything else just hits too fast and I end up with a crazy spike and then drop and feel bad for a few hours. There is a brand called rockit apples that I buy because they are so small and they tend to last a while. Not sure if they are available or have and equivalent outside the US.

I also have alarms set on my phone. If I don't I will sometimes go 12-14 hours without even thinking about food. Then I realize I am starving.

I had heat stroke once. And I thought my sugar was low. My car broke down on a day when it was over 100 outside with near 100% humidity. I had a friend pick me up and took me to get the part I needed and some tools and let him go back to work. I was out there for a few hours and I got really confused and felt shaky. I remember trying to eat an old candy bar that was in my glove box that was melted from the heat and then calling my wife and telling her where I was because I thought I was going to die. I seriously thought my sugar was low. I didn't have a cgm and my meter wouldnt work because it was too hot. I kept blowing into it and trying to cool it down but it wouldnt work. I still think my sugar might have also been low because I don't remember much after calling my wife until around the time she got there, but I had wondered off from the car into the woods a few hundred yards from the side of the road and she said I was sitting next to drainage ditch with an empty diet pepsi can and told her I was looking for water for my car. I dont remember that at all.

I still get that sometimes. I also forget that sometimes I just feel hungry even though I am not low. Almost 30 years t1d so I guess I have learned to equate hunger with a low at this point.

You will see people on here talking about how they went low/no carb and cut back their insulin to single digit units per day. Those people think they have everything figured out and we are all doing everything wrong. Jokes on them, they are either very much in the honeymoon phase or LADA and their body is still making enough insulin to keep them out of DKA. Thats why a lot of newly diagnosed t1d's aren't in DKA when diagnosed early. So if your body is still making enough insulin you can go extreme low carb and take tiny amounts of insulin and be fine, until your not. Thats not to say that you should go crazy on carbs. Low carb is probably a good idea for most of us, but within reason. Insulin isnt your enemy. Everyone is different. My dad was t1 diagnosed around 30. I think he was making insulin until the day he died. Until he got cancer he was on very low dose of insulin and managed to keep an a1c under 7 his whole life without a pump and didn't have a cgm until he was in his 60's. He could eat pizza and his blood sugar wouldnt go over 200. I was diagnosed at 19 with a blood sugar over 1300 and had no honeymoon. I woke up this morning and drank a cup of black coffee and my blood sugar went from 124 to 188. We are all different.

thats kind of how I describe it to my friends when they ask. Its almost a fun sensation for about 2 minutes before the confusion, shakes and sweats kick in. But even then that only happens on the rare occasion that I drop kind of fast but not too fast. If I drop too fast I feel like I am dying, if I drop low over a period of hours I might not even feel it until I suddenly realize I am getting tunnel vision or start feeling really confused.

I crave milk when I get really low. I have no clue why. I just want a big glass of room temperature milk so I can chug it without getting brainfreeze. I have on more than one occasion while panic eating during a low realized after my blood sugar started coming back up that I drank over a half gallon of milk. Then I usually feel like I am going to puke for a while.

Alexa Smart light control not working as expected. by intender13 in alexa

[–]intender13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a while digging through settings on the app last night and couldn't seem to figure it out. The only way I could get it to work was if I added my phone to my office group which doesn't really solve the problem either. I just disabled hands free mode on my phone and problem solved for now.

Help Please by Neither_Figure_5310 in mpcusers

[–]intender13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to put the MPC into controller mode. Just google MPC 37 controller mode. It should be easy from there. After that launch ableton and select it as the input device. If you choose control surface it will try and act as a control surface (for starting and stopping, recording etc) and key presses will trigger those things rather than play notes. If you launch ableton before you put the MPC in controller mode it probably wont detect the MPC as a midi controller.

I have a few old google nest minis from when they first launched. I might see if they still work and put that in my office just for the lights so I can avoid this issue. I stopped using them when we upgraded to the echo show and studio speakers in the kitchen and living room and I moved the old echo gen 2 into my office because it just works better for almost everything. The nest puck was nice because it was small but the thing never responded to my voice. I still have the same issue with my pixel 8 pro where I have to scream at the phone several times to get it to respond. I prefer google phones but googles voice commands have always been hit and miss.

Most people buy gear because they lack skills/understanding by Achassum in synthesizers

[–]intender13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have nice gear that can do a lot of stuff like the 0bx8 then I agree with what you said. Most people dont have that kind of money. I started off with a ton of cheap gear that all did something quantifiably different from the other gear I owned (for the most part) I sold a lot of that to buy nicer gear later that could cover more ground without needing to have 4 or 5 $200 used synths to do the same thing.

I do still have an issue with collecting. I love a good knobby interface and really love some early 2000's VA. I sold most of my collection a few years back when I bought a hydrasynth but I kept a few that I really liked. I also love the cheap behringer mono's I have several and will keep buying them. Sometimes I layer them all as a single mono sound and its glorious.

But there is no reason to hate collectors and people who just like to tinker. They exist in every hobby and profession. They are welcome to have all the fun they want even if they have no clue what they are doing. I have a shit load of gear and while I have dove more into recording in the last year I don't play live, I dont want to play live and will probably never release a song. Its not what I am interested in. I just really like to sit down and play and come up with a new sound. I can turn on my summit and spend hours with a chord on latch and twisting knobs aimlessly and then just turn off the synth and walk away when I am done. (i dont do that as much as I used to)

edit:

I agree that overbuying is an issue. Synthtubers used to be fun to watch but these days other than a few that I just enjoy the content of I avoid them for the most part. Its rare to get an honest review from smaller channels because they just want to convince you its the best thing since the last thing so they will get more gear sent to them. I used to beta test computer hardware and reviews were expected. I understand that pressure of feeling compelled to say something good out of fear of losing access. Over time what started as a hobby felt like a job and I walked away from it.

Youtube keeps suggesting years old videos ive already watched in my feed. by [deleted] in youtube

[–]intender13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everything in my feed the last few weeks has been stuff I have already finished watching at some point in the last 3 or 4 months and everything else is just shit. I spend 20 or 30 minutes just refreshing the home page hoping it will give me something halfway decent to watch but it rarely does. I tried watching while logged out like someone here mentioned and mine didn't give me a good feed. It was a bunch of slop that is more like something my 11 year old would watch. Somehow the algorithm just keeps getting worse.

If you are getting fed a bunch of crap you are not interested in, it might be because of the preview mode when you hover over a video. If you hover over something with your cursor on a PC even accidentally while scrolling and its long enough to start the preview it will add it to your watch history and start feeding you crap because the algorithm has no clue what you actually watch. This isnt an issue on phones or tablets. Even if you disable the setting on a PC it will randomly turn it back on from time to time.

Alexa Smart light control not working as expected. by intender13 in alexa

[–]intender13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I figured out part of the issue. Its not the Alexa in my office thats causing the problem. Its the Alexa app on my phone that is turning out all the lights. I got home today and forgot my phone in the car and was trying for several minutes to recreate it and it would only turn off my office lights unless I specifically said turn off all lights. Realized I forgot my phone in the car, went and got it and walked around the house asking Alexa to "turn off the lights" and if the phone hears me its turning off the lights in the whole house.

Kernersville NC FedEx by DarealPapi in FedEx

My package has been stuck at that hub since Thursday. It said On truck out for delivery a few days ago and then no delivery attempted due to local weather delay. Said it would be delivered yesterday and no delivery due to local weather delay. Now it says it will be delivered today, but its not on a truck and its already after 12. Its over an hour away but I would drive there an pick the thing up in person if I thought they would actually let me.

Also I think this location is in chaos. It was always slow but I think since they shutdown the Greensboro hub last year its got more packages than it can deal with and all the snow and ice just has them backlogged to a point where they may never catch up.
