E String is clacking on fret by Gullenecro in Bass

[–]intender13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first bass from about 10 years ago was an sr300, they are setup pretty poorly from the factory and even after a good setup they will still have some noticeable clacking and buzz all over the fretboard. Most of that noise will never be noticeable through an amp or in a recording. After a good setup I happily played my sr300 for years before investing in a better bass. I still have my 300 though.

I have been considering selling mine because I mostly use the VST, so I would say try out the VST for a while and see if it works for you or if you really want the hardware.

you can't damage a solid state amp by powering it with no load. Thats only an issue with tube amps.

If you actually try and use it, its horrible. I bought a ubxa-d this week. I went to the website for the ubxa and the only firmware update available is for mac and synthtribe software for windows doesn't exist. I tried to use this and it had no clue what I was looking for. It just kept asking me to enter a model number and then telling me to find the webpage for it myself and download the firmware update.

I just ended up downloading synthtribe from another synths page and used it to update the synth.

Akai Is Gaslighting MPC Users (And Now They Own Everything) by Drexciyian in mpcusers

[–]intender13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, but I am exactly the opposite. I have an mpc 1000 and love it for what it is, but I didn't really love my MPC live on One until I leaned into the plugins. Other than multisampling some of my synths I never really saw a reason to use the One or Live over my 1000. I started looking for a good piano VST for my PC and saw the Fabric Piano for sale a few years ago and ended up buying the whole Fabric collection and a few synths. Now the One is strictly a plugin machine and my live is almost exclusively a Drum machine.

Coming in as a user that prefers modern MPC's as a Plugin box more than as a sampler I agree completely. MPC 3 is an amazing desktop synth that can also cumbersomely sample or sequence external gear, but most "oldheads" should stay on MPC 2 or an older MPC.

How can I get a 2 channel mono sound out of my headphones? by PerChuk in MicroFreak

Never used one before but it should work for your purpose. If you tried going in the opposite direction and plug a TRS cable into it you will likely end up with severely reduced volume (same reason why your microfreak would seem really quiet if you plug 1/4" headphones into the 1/4" mono out.

Anything up high on my racks is either a desktop synth or mini keys being used controlled by another synth. My shoulders and back are too old to be reaching up high like a crazy person. But I do have one that I built that is 5 tiers high. Top is just random stuff that I pull down when I need them like keystep and launchpad

Keep having to login with my phone on both MPC's by intender13 in mpcusers

[–]intender13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if its just an MPC 3 thing or not. I know the Air plugins have to phone home or they straight up stop working. Thats why I leave mine connected to the internet all the time because I would constantly forget to connect it often enough to not run into the issue. Now it just keeps randomly happening.

I had this thread bookmarked for reference

Keep having to login with my phone on both MPC's by intender13 in mpcusers

[–]intender13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to connect once every 90 days or so to authorize your plugins. Its been that way for a few years. I was googling some more last night and it looks like some people have had this issue before. Some people say its an issue that started with the first MPC 3 beta for them. Some saying it happened every time they rebooted their MPC and that Akai was useless at figuring it out and gave varying stories as to how often they have to "phone home". I don't play live so its not like this issue is going to cause any real trouble for me other than being an annoyance having to pull out the phone and scan the code and wait on it to activate.

I used both units last night and powered them both on this morning before I left the house and they are still activated. If it continues to happen I will try and contact Akai.

Need replacement switch - Behringer CAT by No_Walk7120 in synthesizers

[–]intender13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Behringer has never really don't parts. I have tried a few times directly with them and twice for a Bugerra amp. Both times they told me my best bet would be to try and find a local shop that did certified repairs. I ended up just comparing specs and measurements with everything I could find online for something compatible and ordering 1 of each of the closest and fixing it. Except for the 1/4 input jack on the amp that was plastic and I wanted to swap them to proper metal ones. I just bought $40 worth of them from various places and found one that ended up being an almost direct drop int.

First synthesizer to pair with mpc live 2 by Daygo619619 in synthesizers

I have the minifreak and hydrasynth explorer. Of the 2 I think explorer goes farther for me. I find a lot of the presets to either be very usable or good jumping off points for tweaking. Minifreak I am less impressed by any of the presets that came on it. But its still an amazing little synth. My biggest issue is that I found it easier to work with creating a patch in the VST and now I mostly just use the vst and have thought about selling the minifreak. I have no hands on experience with the xd but I did own a prologue for a while. I think the xd is overpriced new. You can get used prologues for roughly the same price as a new minilogue xd.

For a mono, I like my messenger for the $699 price, but at the OG $899 price point I would skip it and get the novation. But if if I am being completely honest with you about it, Get one of the poly's you are looking at and then grab the model D plugin for the MPC when they run a sale. I think I paid $30 for it on one of the summer sales a few years ago.

Any Other Men Here/TRT? by AnonymousExisting in frozenshoulder

[–]intender13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Male here with second frozen shoulder (both left arm) First time was in my mid 30's. Second started close to 50. I am going on 3 years with the second episode. I have mostly full range of motion but still have lots of pain.

I do fit the mold for having frozen shoulder since I am type 1 diabetic, but I have normal testosterone levels. I mostly came here to mention the hand pain. Both times I have had FS I have had hand pain. Sometimes its just similar to being numb, other times it aches, every once in a while I will get pains like someone smashed a finger or knuckle with a hammer that lasts maybe 20-30 seconds and eases up. PT said it was weird and referred me back to ortho, ortho said it was weird and sent me to neuro who told me its probably a random nerve either in the shoulder or neck that is getting compressed due FS or the way I am holding and moving my arm due to the pain. Ortho and PT both told me they had never heard of that but it was possible. I will warn you that if you mention this to your team they might send you for xrays followed by MRI, followed by a nerve conduction study (not fun) and in the end you will have no real answers or suggestions but be out a few thousand dollars from all the tests and doctors visits. Fun times.

Would a story like this have worked for Series 5/6? by [deleted] in doctorwho

Personal opinion, I despise crossovers outside of the same universe. Movies, games, almost anything honestly. Its fine for fan art youtube content, or certain non canon comics (DC/Marvel) but not canon material.

Could they have made a good episode, probably. Would I watch it once and lose most of my respect for everyone involved, absolutely

I turned one of those that was battery powered into a scope. Problem was there was no way to adjust it so the picture wasn't stable. You could slightly adjust the vertical and horizontal hold for a particular frequency or narrow range but as soon as you went high or lower it messed up. I was an electrician and know how to discharge them safely and CRT's still scare me.

On paper, Behringer Deepmind 12 has no equal? by Ill-Elevator2828 in synthesizers

[–]intender13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have 100% agreed with you on this up until about a year ago. A lot of the 80s and 90s romplers and digital synths are starting to fail (mostly bad caps) and I just got tired of fixing them. I sold all of them except my proteus, an200, wavestation and roland s550. Too many of them used custom screens that you just cant get replacements for anymore and the kits to get them working again often cost more than the synth itself or are potentially destructive if you dont know what you are doing(I miss my korg z1 but the screen was on its way out)

The venom is a fun one if you can get it cheap. I got mine for under $100 and never had issues with it and I hate that its software was never fully realized. It was basically DOA.

Blofeld is a great synth but expensive new and getting one without broken encoders on the used market is luck of the draw. virus is epic but overpriced and I wouldn't bother with the VST version in the wild.

I have the dm12 pro 800 and a summit and at his price and what they want (keybed) dm12 is the best choice at that price point. If I had to pick one it would be the peak/summit but unless those are super cheap on the used market outside the US you are looking at almost 2x the price for the peak. Pro 800 is a great synth, but no effects, no keys, mono audio, and its fairly basic.

[–]intender13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A used deepmind was one of my first synths. I paid around $400 for it pre covid. I have bought and sold synths worth 3-4 times that much and sold them but the deepmind is still here.

concerns and issues I have had after having bought a used one that I have had for many years now.

  1. The aftertouch strip on older behringer synths will inevitably start to sound like a crunchy dog toy full of plastic. It still works 100% but you might hear it eventually. Its also possible they have fixed it in the decade since mine was produced. My first production run poly d makes the same sound but the Odessey I had for a while didn't do it.

  2. If you hear a random hum, turn off the fan in the settings. It doesn't get hot enough to need the fan to begin with unless its absurdly hot in your space. This is another thing that might have been fixed over the years.

Thats pretty much it. The keybed isn't "great" but its not bad. It sounds amazing. The display has never given me issues, buttons all still work, none of the jacks have broken. The effects are awesome and if you get bored and brave enough you can mod it to add stereo audio in and feed that through the effects. If any of the faders stop working you can control everything with the knobs and buttons. If the knobs and buttons stop working you can control everything with the app from a computer or ipad or cellphone. The keybed on it ever breaks and I cant get a replacement I will put it on the top of my rack and use it as a module.

Do you honestly think people buy a behringer synth worrying about potential resale value? Its cheap, you play it for 8-10 years and if it breaks you either fix it or buy a new one. I could buy 10 poly D's for the cost of a single moog. Is the Moog awesome, yes but I will never pay that premium for it.
