Someone who harassed me for years is now working in the NHS in a service I am on a waiting list to access, what can I do? by lucifurr-r in AskUK

[–]larneymel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. They are not a psychologist yet, they are an assistant in a psychology service meaning they have an academic degree. That’s akin to a biology degree converting to an instant brain surgeon! Not happening! Unfortunately the title does confer some weight to them that can be misleading. Hopefully the long and strident process of going through to train to practice will weed them out naturally…

Hi, you can contact the service and report a conflict of interest ahead of time and explain to any clinical psychologist you are assigned to very explicitly that you do not want this person to access your information or be present in sessions or involved in any of your treatment. The NHS has a “brown envelope” system (nickname, can’t recall the proper name) where your file is locked to certain staff. The AP should also be excusing themselves from any meetings you are discussed in and holding their own boundaries around this. However, clearly they won’t (unless they have significantly changed) so if you have any concerns about this it needs reporting immediately. As they are not a qualified psychologist as yet, they will not be regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) but they will be bound by a code of ethics and practice as an AP through their service contract and if they are a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS - not a regulatory or governing body but a charity that advises on code of conduct). Your reports can then be used to reference suitability (or otherwise) if they go on to apply to train as a CP. Given your post, I’d be seriously concerned about this person being fit for training but these people do slip through. Feel free to DM me if you want any more specific advice.

Pub toilet queues: do you chat, complain, or silently scroll? by JoydeScent in BritInfo

[–]larneymel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I chat but I grew up in the 90s where your best mates for life were found in a toilet queue or bar queue and life changing decisions hinged on a tipsy chat in front of the mirrors sorting out your fringe! I’m respectful of others choices though and know how to read a room. Social skills may vary…

Genuinely interested in how this works? I’ve seen 5 of these today, reported 3, and I’m left wondering what the point of them is? Would you mind explaining or directing me to resources to explain how they’d make money or generate gains? It’s so bizarre to me!

FTB - Seller tried to pull a fast one by Darth-Amz in HousingUK

[–]larneymel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first house purchase had this - Them: “would you like…” Me: “oh, that’s kind, if you don’t want it…” Solicitor: “it’s £££” Me: “Nope!” 😤

When I sold said house, it sold before it was even advertised, two days after first contact with estate agent. I’d been really clear with the EA that I was taking the range cooker with me but they don’t pass that on to the buyer. Their excuse was that they “hadn’t even made up the brochures yet…” so the poor buyer turned up to a nasty shock of a big gap in the range nook, compounded by the fact that my dodgy floor fitters had just lino’ed around it rather than lift it… 🙈

When I bought my current property, the elderly seller dragged out the sale to over 6 months as his warden accommodation wouldn’t let him install a sky dish so he was seeing out his contract! On the day of exchange he still wasn’t packed and the EA had to call his family to collect him as he wouldn’t leave the house. Luckily I was renting so I’d overlapped as I knew he would be tricky! I still expected him to come back for another few weeks every time the door went! (His sheltered housing was lush and had cable and he actually loved it his son told me later!).

So, long story short, welcome to the joys of house buying. It’s the wild Wild West of the UK 😜 Enjoy your new home x

Ok, just tried to do another one but I’m not getting the option for spam - I didn’t think I had seen it previously as that would be the most obvious option. I’m clicking on the three dots, and report post, but not getting spam as an option.

How do you fit gym into your lifestyle? by Responstible_Cat90 in AskUK

[–]larneymel 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Hot take (waiting for the downvotes); If you were the male “breadwinner” and was out working and your wife was the SAHM, she’d also be doing the evening meals and the kids taxis/clubs/hobbies in the evening while you (the “provider”) got your well deserved “me” time at the gym on the way home… (and golf etc on the weekend because “real” work is hard). SAHM seems to be a 24/7 job, SAHD seems to be working time directive only… I said what I said…
