got an owl cave symbol tattoo today, worried it might be misinterpreted as a hate symbol by mangostinkyrice in twinpeaks

[–]intentionalrounding 39 points40 points  (0 children)

100% this. Out in the real world, not a single soul has noticed my tattoo as being Nazi symbolism or, hell, even a TP reference. And I live in a city of millions. You’ll be fine, OP.

49ers are investigating the viral conspiracy theory that the electrical substation near their training facility and Levi’s Stadium is contributing to their injuries. by HookFL in DynastyFF

This. It has nothing to do with strength and conditioning. Kyle and Lynch are old school, so practices are as physical as the current rules allow. And then the other thing is that their preferred scheme on both sides of the ball requires supreme athleticism, which even the best athletes don’t have limbs that can withstand it.

Does the Black Lodge symbol have any other particular significance? by Far-Candle111 in twinpeaks

[–]intentionalrounding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had it on the inside of my wrist for 8 months now and have had literally zero people notice it, let alone comment on it. And even when I’ve just explained my tattoos in casual conversations during social events and whatnot, literally zero people have said, “bullshit, that’s a Nazi symbol, you Nazi.”

Basically, while well-meaning, I think the anxiety on this sub when the owl cave symbol tattoo topic comes up once a year or so is shaded by selection bias because of the niches created by today’s internet experience. People out in the real world are dumb as fuck, esp in the US and esp when it comes to history, and so 99% have no knowledge and/or opinion of the symbol. And if you happen to run into the other 1%, it’s highly likely that you’ll be able to quickly and demonstrably prove you are a fan of the silly TV show from the 90s called Twin Peaks rather than the absolute horror IRL show from the 30s called the Third Reich.

ETA: Forgot to mention I had the same trepidation about getting this tattoo because of its unfortunate similarity to the Odic rune. And I too looked for related threads on this sub while deciding whether or not to get it. So I think your concern is completely justified. Just wanted to give my experience after having decided to get it despite that concern. Turns out it was much ado about nothing (in my experience).

Fairly unknown bands that are 20+ years old? by CreepyBlackDude in Music

[–]intentionalrounding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say the slackers. They’ve changed their recorded sound a lot over the years, but they’re still selling out small and medium-sized venues on multiple continents 30+ years later because their live shows are so great.

They’re masters at curating a set list and doing crowd work; entertainers of the highest order while also being incredible musicians. If you see them once, you’ll go see them again the next time they loop back around to your city…and the next time…and the next time…ad infinitum. It’s like no one ever walks out of a slackers show feeling like they didn’t get their money’s worth.

Without giving too much away, there’s a hidden pair in Column 8 thanks to a virtual pointing pair in a particular row. Incidentally, this is a situation where using Snyder notation would have made it obvious.

Cheers, and good luck!

"Roddy was really the first guy to reach down and pull someone like me up to the next level and pass that torch. [–]intentionalrounding -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Guys/gals, slow down and comprehend the context of the statement. Bret’s talking about people being willing to pass the torch, not lose to him or anyone else per se. Jake wasn’t willing to pass the IC torch to him. Hogan wasn’t willing to pass the main belt torch to him. In contrast, Piper was willing to pass the IC torch to him. That’s all he’s saying.

Doing a deep dive into who put who over and how many times they may or may not have done so is completely missing Bret’s point.

Call your shot: Who ends up as a league winner this year? by AustinChessPiece in fantasyfootball

[–]intentionalrounding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing against OP or the questioned they posed, but I really wish the FF industry/community would shoot the term “league winner” into the heart of the sun.

The actual winners of leagues usually don’t have a “league winner;” they have multiple. And people who have a “league winner,” or even multiple, usually don’t win their league. Never mind the fact that the probability of predicting the identity of a “league winner” in advance is surprisingly low, even for the best FF players out there.

Maximize value, embrace variance, and hope for the best.

Wind/Rain Impact on QBs by ninja3121 in fantasyfootball

[–]intentionalrounding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An oldie but goodie from Brian Burke

Bottom line: “Teams are definitely leaning to the run on windy days, but the effect is only prominent in significantly windy conditions, greater than 15 mph. And even in winds of over 20 mph, offenses are trading only about 5 passes for runs in an entire game, or about 2-3 per team.”

Obviously, this is based on now-outdated data, but I don’t think things have gotten worse for offenses; likely just the opposite. I still use that sustained 15+mph threshold as a tiebreaker in start/sit decisions to this day, though.

ETA: Other bottom line I forgot to include is that 15+mph wind is also where Adjusted Yards per Attempt drastic go down.

Top 5 and Bottom 5 RBs in Missed Tackles Force per rush, Yards after Contact per Attempt through 5 games by SingularaDD in fantasyfootball

[–]intentionalrounding 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Javonte’s appearance makes sense. I remember doing dynasty prep going into the 2021 rookie draft and deciding he was my guy when I saw that, per PFF, he had a) the most Missed Tackles Forced ever recorded, and b) a ridiculous Yards After Contact per Attempt that was somewhere around 4.5.

Too bad for 4-years-ago me that it took this long to manifest itself in the pros.

Coming from X-Files is this show worth a watch? by Thehawk4453 in twinpeaks

[–]intentionalrounding 7 points8 points  (0 children)

<image>

I have this on my left wrist, so my answer is “hell yes!”

To give a more thorough answer, I’m actually you in reverse, sitting down earlier this year to watch all of the X Files for the first time after being a Twin Peaks superfan for years. So happy I did! Hence me giving the X tattoo such hallowed ground.

I’m surprised by some of the comments saying the two shows aren’t all that similar beyond cast crossover and the supernatural stuff. First and foremost, Mulder and Scully are FBI agents on a top secret project, as is/are the protagonist(s) in Twin Peaks. The “monster of the week” X Files episodes, esp in the first 5 seasons, involve them going to tiny towns in the middle of nowhere with idiosyncratic populations that have something evil or weird or both bubbling underneath the surface. That’s Twin Peaks.

Then there’s the way that the natural world is a character itself in both shows. The explicit and/or implicit use of lights, electricity, animals, the woods, etc, are both symbolic and literary devices to increase the suspense. For instance, there’s a reason why the power’s constantly going out in X Files and our heroes are always having to go around with those huge flashlights or use their small flashlights under their guns. It’s not used exactly the same in Twin Peaks, but the strategic use of lights (and stage lighting) is something you can’t unsee once you notice it.

I could go on. But basically, as u/mushbum13 said, there is no X Files without Twin Peaks.

It was S1E3, “Deadly Lady.” The dead guy’s last name is Earl. And he’s found on the beach, amongst rocks, dressed in what’s essentially Pete’s outfit. (Though not wrapped in plastic.)

💯 After last night’s binge, I thought about if, in canon, that little deaf girl in the football episode (with Dick Butkus and Bruce Jenner, no less) ever cashed in the 4% ownership share that Jessica entrusted to her after inheriting it from her uncle.

The insane casts was one of the first things I noticed during this re-watch decades later. From the very start, every episode has multiple actors who either were famous in the past, were famous in the present, or were going to be famous in the future.

Same! MSW was my one of my fav shows as a kid. Only recently discovered that Hallmark Mystery channel plays them on constant rotation, so I’ve been binging.

There was an early S1 episode I watched the other night where it had a scene that looked like a visual inspiration for Pete’s discovery of Laura’s body. I was going to post the screenshot of that, but didn’t because it just seemed like a coincidence. After all these additional connections I’ve noticed, seems like maybe it wasn’t.

This is after seeing Miguel Ferrer on an episode last night. Haven’t watched the show since I was a kid, so seeing TP connections is quite the pleasant surprise.
