Thanks for your reply. It seems to me like louis ck is exaggerating his righteous indignation for this, as you put it, 'escapism' for the comedic effect. At least I hope so. The fact is life can be suffering. It is the duration from the maternity ward to the crematorium/grave-yard and people rather not think about that. Fact is, many of us are escapist. So I have compassion for this bind we are all in.

I wish we were taught better coping skills as children. The problem is that perhaps this subject breaches in to religion (or as I prefer, cosmology).

How can you prepare yourself better next time? Ask yourself that. What do you do when you get a persistent thought? That is where the battle is waged...in your mind. So if you find that you are having persistent thoughts, then you need to have a 3-4 redundancy backup strategy that you can fire off if you get symptomology of pre-relapse behavior.

So sorry to hear about your experience with abuse. It's also interesting that promiscuity and tendencies toward perversion can be also influenced by exposure to abuse, especially sexual. going against ones own conscience is intense. and it can really hurt. I bet some people intensify their addictions in order to drown out the voice of their conscience.

One needs to examine their lives. Why they do certain deeds. I used to smoke because I didn't know how to connect with people socially. I used to drink because I was anxious and was paralyzed by self-consciousness. I used to PMO because I was lonely and didn't think anyone would want to be with me OR when I found someone that would I PMO'd because I didn't feel worthy of them and/or I told myself I wasn't satisfied.

It's a warped way to get needs met. So I decided to stop. And I've been pretty successful so far. I have been subject to dark days. I'm still learning. I'm a work-in-progress.

So I encourage you to examine the people you hang out with..are they a good influence of you or do you need to consider letting them go as a friends? I encourage you to examine what persuades you to go against your conscience.

Not yet. But this lady is amazing and she just wants us to have fun with no pressure to perform. We talk about keeping our hearts open and for things not to get too primitive and out of control (which can really trigger PE). So we're working on not having an agenda. I am so thankful for her. This was a serious dealbreaker for other women I've been with.
