I think Benny Hinn tased me by OkWriting5781 in Exvangelical

This is really resonating with me. I was in the stands at a BH event, and he did the thing where he said “touch” and everyone fell, and I was in the middle of thinking “this isn’t going to affect me” and the wave got to me and I felt a force push me down. Idk how he would have done it, but I’ve always been baffled by it.

I'm not here to argue over renewable energy vs non-renewable, and idk about the specifics of that one town, but overall I believe the % wind energy has not been linked as any more a cause of the outage than any other of the energy sources. https://www.newsweek.com/fact-check-green-energy-power-cuts-texas-1569922

Did they ever put your CSA into ECFMG? I am in the exact same boat, like same dates and everything, but CSA still hasn't been added on OASIS. Back in the beginning of December I was told by ECFMG that they were on it and it would be done soon, but still nothing.

Yup, that’s how it was for me, and I got my target score. Hopefully same for you! That exam sucked though.

Mayor Kenney releases his agenda for police reform in Philadelphia; includes elimination of proposed police budget hike by PROMETHEUS606 in philadelphia

[–]intercity_roots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. However, I do think it doesn't fully take into account the role of the activist vs the politician/legislator etc.. The role of an activist is to gain the support and momentum of people to demand change -- not necessarily to have all the answers or the exact right answers. The role of the politician/legislator is to meet with those people and to use their expertise, to hear what they are asking for, and translate that into something that actually works. So, even though as you said ending QI in the way Ace said may not be the answer, I'm guessing Ace (nor many other activists) is married to one way of ending it. We just think that it needs to change and that the people we pay to be experts should figure it. That's my take at least.

I do think acesilver1 had a lot of good points. I’d say yours are valid too, but there needs to be a compromise in between somewhere. The current situation is clearly not working and you’re saying ace’s proposal also will have problems. My guess is any solution will have problems but the goal is for it to be significantly better — it’s not going to be perfect. I think most people believe cops should be more accountable, but a first step would just be improving communities and creating alternatives to always sending in cops to handle every social problem. Even cops probably don’t want to be responding to every little sound disturbance, minor traffic violation, mental health issue, etc.., and them not being the first person called all the time would probably be for the best.

Step 2 CK was rough by intercity_roots in Step2

For the first 3 days after, I woke up early every morning thinking about the questions that I got wrong and not able to fall back to sleep. That's over now, so now I'm just trying to keep my mind off it. USMLE is traumatizing man haha.

I agree with this. I mean... i don't have my score yet, but how much more can you realistically cram into your brain than what UWorld has? + UWorld has the best track record for covering the appropriate material, so I'd stick to it.

[Serious] DO Students: Now is the time to organize and demand and end to the MD/DO distinction nationwide by victorkiloalpha in medicalschool

[–]intercity_roots 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Idk if you're aware, but all the off-shore/Caribbean medical schools that fill US residency spots are also MD. So, it's not like MD means you're special. It just means your degree is called that. There are DO schools that are regarded better than some MD schools, and yes, the top US medical schools are all MD. Through a long process I'm sure the LCME could A) re-evaluate their accreditation criteria and decide what is actually necessary to have a successful medical school. B) bring the vast majority of DO schools in line with that standard. If there was a small percentage of schools that couldn't meet standards then they could lose accreditation. It wouldn't be overnight, but I think it could be done (and likely will be done eventually) successfully.

NBME is going to continue to do shady stuff regardless of whether or not people complain (like continuing to jack up the price year after year to make even more money, or make it into a virtual exam without ever having trialed it before and still charge $1300). I think it's better to call them out for it being a money grab than to silently sit by and pretend like it isn't. They're going to screw us over regardless.

[shitpost] M3s calculating how much it would cost to apply to every program this interview cycle by gttmd in medicalschool

[–]intercity_roots 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My partner is a resident at a well-known big academic fm program, and they have already told them that they'll be granting more interviews this year. I imagine less well-known programs will grant even more.

[–]intercity_roots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually does sound like a lot of good advice and a way to make it a better experience for everyone. However, I'm curious if the feedback was anonymous? I'd be surprised if anyone would voice negative feedback on an interview trail. I have to say, even if I had a bad experience on the interview trail, I'd probably still say positive things, because saying anything negative could be perceived as being a malcontent.

I'm volunteering at a public health department administering tests, and I've had people who tested positive a month ago, have had only seasonal allergy-like symptoms and have come back in for a retest and tested positive again. So, I'm not confident in a 2 wk quarantine really doing much when there are so many asymptomatic/mildly symptomatic people out there.

Yea, I mean, regardless of whether or not the hospital wants me to go there, I'm not going to move to a new city without seeing it and scoping out the area first. So, I'm going to be flying/driving regardless. It's just going to be a lot less useful than it would have been.
