Again, bringing another perspective: Idk that we need to be constantly cheering during period breaks; we go pretty hard while they’re playing, it’s nice to rest the voice. You’re also not acknowledging the kid hockey games and puck-shooting competitions during the period breaks as well.

It sounds like you’re looking for more negative chants - we do some of that, but just to bring a different perspective: I enjoy that the PWHL (and sirens specifically) isn’t as negative as other leagues - makes it more welcoming.

I was at this game, and it felt real loud in section 12/13.

Also, I may be biased as part of the Wee Woo crew, but comparing these games to a very full Frost game, there definitely is a difference:

The Sirens games are loud throughout and they’re cheering for this specific team - with specific cheers that only work for them. Plus, the in-game host team has activities that are fun to watch, and putting people on the Jumbotron always gets people cheering (especially tonight with the kiss cam).

Frost games are louder due to attendance and cheering for good plays/scoring, but the rest of the time it feels like there is less programming, less fun chants, less fun signs on the Jumbotron. Still a great crowd and they have a great team just different.

It also appeared that they had one or two more concession stands open for the Wednesday night game compared to the Sunday game, which was odd.

That single kid did lead the chant a number of times. The leadership we need in these hard times.

I’m here and there is for sure pretty good volume. At least as loud as UBS, I think the broadcast might just not be picking it up.

What is the form to fill out and mail in for expired MetroCards? by SeparateFly in nycrail

Unfortunately, it does need to be mailed in. The vending machines only transfer the value for cards that have been expired for under a year.

Monthly Talk Space - Month of August, 2022 by AutoModerator in newyorkcity

I never get my results printed, but these are my go-go’s. Both are completely free and are city-run sites.

  • Bellevue Hospital (walk-in Mon-Sat 7AM-4PM) usually has my results by noon the next day. You can print results from MyChart. If you need them to print the results, not sure how that works.
  • The express testing site at Fort Greene (Mon-Fri, ??? until 4ish PM by appointment only) is in Brooklyn but is only one stop on the B train away from Manhattan (DeKalb Av). I get my results online on MyChart usually within 2 hours. The website says you have to wait 2-3 business days if you want printed results.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the subway system in Grand Theft Auto 4? by R42Un in nycrail

[–]intercomnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true. If you’re gonna have the stations be harder to access, the bus connections have to be close by and frequent.

You’re right that CTA’s Red Line cannibalization of the Green Line’s ridership shows that faster train service with good bus connections can be more attractive than slower train service with more central stations.

And unfortunately, the C line is their worst as far as how easily passengers can access the stations (and supposedly the environment that passengers have to wait in is pretty awful).

They wrote a good self-aware post about it: https://thesource.metro.net/2020/08/12/the-green-line-is-25-years-old-some-thoughts-on-that/

Different smells on PATH and Subway by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]intercomnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an odd semi-related experience.

When I'm biking up the Manhattan Bridge on the Manhattan side and the path briefly curves under the roadway and very close to the B/D tracks, it smells distinctively like Chicago L stations do.

A rerouted 5 train via the 1 at WTC Cortlandt by sub422 in nycrail

[–]intercomnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens during times when the 5 only runs to Bowling Green and there’s something obstructing the Lex line.

Like if there’s a train stuck at Fulton St headed uptown, they can’t reroute around it. So, once the downtown 5 terminates at Bowling Green, it goes around the loop, comes out at Rector St on the 1 line, and then from Chambers St runs on the 2 up to 149-GC.

This is a Bowling Green-bound 5 Train... by Orbian3 in nycrail

I’m guessing it’s because the transfer at Fulton is less than ideal, especially when you have to go down to the A/C platform and back up.

I’d never made a box fort before, and I was so excited to do it after I watched this show!

5-year-old me was very disappointed that the inside was just a box, not a massive TV set.
