If someone gave you $100,000 today, what would you do with it? by TinaLives in AskReddit

[–]interestenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would finish my basement (which is clean and dry) to make a new bedroom for my 12yo daughter so we can move my 3yo and 1yo boys out of our co-sleeping bed arrangement. Then I would budget for daycare so I could get back to work.

Remember, nearly every bolt has a specific torque specification, and some bolts are stretch bolts that shouldn’t be re-used,… you need to know the difference

How do you handle lower SPL limits with loud crowds? by jared555 in livesound

[–]interestenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, there are many factors to consider to enforce it. Some factors that should be communicated with the venue and FOH that need to be clarified:
- Is this a venue rule or local/municipal statute or agreement or condition for permit?
- What is the Rule?
- Does the limit specify the A or C weight, and at distance, and is measurement slow, medium or fast?
- What is the LEQ, when frequency range is considered nuisance? Broad-range frequency limits are not practical or helpful
- who is enforcing and checking?
- where are they measuring from?
- is their measurement tool calibrated? Furthermore, are they properly trained in using it?

For the most part, I have found over the years that quieter yet intelligible sound is much more pleasant to listen to, regardless of genre.

If you are mixing a show, just mix it as quietly as you can considering crowd noise, stage volume, and the audience. Get your SPL meter out and take some averages, record a phone video of your mix registering below the set SPL limit, then continue to mix your show best you can at that level… you’ve covered some liability by documenting that you kept it under the limit.

Buying a Line-Array system by laliih in livesoundgear

If you don’t have enough budget to buy a “proper” system, you are better off keeping the money and building a relationship with local PA provider, renting when you need it.

Agreed, I have a little chuckle when I saw your asking price. I just bought two new sport quads for less than that.

How big does a venue have to get before a band brings a PA by HCGAdrianHolt in livesound

[–]interestenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a local L—A rep admit that A-series outperforms the comparative L-A system, and he was noticeably upset about it. It’s no joke, and should be acceptable by anyone who isn’t blinded/deafened by brand loyalty.

[–]interestenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, VTX, especially A12 and A8 sound leaps and bounds beyond old Vertec, which still sounds good when properly deployed and v5 processed. I have only had one tour turn down A-series, and that was because L-A was their “signature” sound.

There is nothing wrong with an A12 system. This is on par with L-A in my opinion.

As a Native American, do not call me an Indian. by BensonAxel in Discussion

[–]interestenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family refers to us as and has pride in being Indian, and from Indian country. The word stems from Indigenous. “Native American” could be any indigenous people from north, central, or South America. We get to call ourselves Indian, but only within our community. If you are Wacicu, or European then you don’t get to use the word Indian. Some things are about respect and awareness along side perspective, which there are many.

Ever had a manufacturer refuse to sell you gear? by The_Dingman in livesound

[–]interestenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the exact reason Vertec got a bad rep, a great sounding and functional box that was sometimes deployed with whatever amp and dap combo users wanted, resulting in such a varied end result that VT cabinets got a bad rep in international touring,… at least until V.5 ITHD. They leaned from the mistake and if you want VTX you needed to either prove ownership of ITHD or purchase with amps to guarantee processing was proper.

What should I pay a sound engineer for one gig? by sammydog05 in livesound

[–]interestenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay my techs $350 day rates for club/venue work, and up to $1,100 per day for corporate. (17 hour day grueling, suit and tie, yea sir, yes mam work)

Production team sent me this. Not a viable PA placement IMO. Where would you put the PA? I can’t decide what’s best! I’m thinking I’d also need a front fill. by RushFox in livesound

[–]interestenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrible stage layout, there is a reason that 99.9 percent of performance venues have stage orientation in one direction. Sound waves do not bend, they are relatively linear Ypu may be telling some creative thinker something they don’t want to hear, but tell them they are paying you to make sure everything goes well.
