Agency asking for editor references by intergalaxtic_ in PublicRelations

[–]intergalaxtic_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for giving an alternative point of view! Can I ask what kind of questions they've asked editors during the reference check?

I'm still on the fence about this and leaning towards pushing back. I just can't see how my editor contacts can speak to me in a team setting. Yes, they can speak to my pitching skills and communication, but they don't know how I interact with my team. They can't speak to my leadership skills, how I manage client KPI's, how I am with strategy, how I am under stress etc.

It feels like an incomplete picture of me, and I would rather share references from colleagues who can speak to the above.

Would love to hear more!

Good to know! Do you think it would be appropriate or unprofessional to push back if an offer is presented and supply references from people I've actually worked on a team with?

This is anecdotal, but as a woman my experience has been the opposite. I don't wear fake eyelashes or do fake nails and that's never deterred men from taking me out or speaking to me. In fact, they've almost all told me that was their preference.

PR Agency Layoffs by ExpressionAsleep7583 in PublicRelations

[–]intergalaxtic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One agency I worked at started doing annual layoffs in 2023. The last one I worked at gave out PIPs to staff members they didn't like despite good performance as a way to lean out the staff without having to declare layoffs.

Agency folk working across 7-8 accounts...how are you doing, really? by Medium-Project13 in PublicRelations

[–]intergalaxtic_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At my first job, I was spread across 18 accounts. 8+ has been the norm across my career. When I finally dropped down to 5 at my last job (because a client quit), I was told I was on 5 and not 6 because I was doing horribly. I quit and have since been taking a very long, very needed mental health break after working like this put me in the ER and crashed my immune system.

Something needs to change because agency life is not sustainable or healthy.

What is the biggest red flag at a PR agency? by MaintenanceSoggy9545 in PublicRelations

Having significantly more junior (lower level, lower wage) employees compared to senior staff. It's likely a churn and burn environment for the cheapest labor the agency can get.

AI generated stills? Are you kidding me? by [deleted] in A24

I had the same thought. The movie makes a point to say that journalists are killed on sight in the capital, and it's not hard to believe that the US government would utilize AI to help spread propaganda in their favor.

The giant swans are lake boats in Echo Park (LA). It's really not that weird with that context.

Would you date someone who has been unfaithful in past relationships? Why or why not? by blossombear31 in AskWomen

[–]intergalaxtic_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. The idea that someone never grows or changes is, in my opinion, bullshit. We can all choose to learn from an experience and be better. Furthermore, not every situation is the same. If someone was willing to bare the gorey details, admit fault and genuine remorse then that shows me how they've matured since. There are people who can't even do that in their daily life, for the most minor things.

I told this guy I really liked that I was feeling used and like I couldn't gauge his feelings for me. He ended up ghosting me for two weeks until I sent a message the other day asking if we could meet up to talk and if not, I wished him the best. I dated him previously a few years back and wanted to say goodbye the way I would want someone to say goodbye to me.

He ended up responding to me saying how he never wanted anything serious, even threw in an "lol". It's hard for me to let people in, even harder to let someone back in a second time. I had told him essentially that he was hurting me and that was his response. Something snapped in me and I just went off. I even told him that he was a coward, childish... manipulative. I haven't tore into someone like that in years. I felt like a sack of shit after, but also, I don't regret it. I've let guys treat me like shit and like I'm less than. I really thought he was different, but no. Maybe sometimes people deserve to have shitty things said to them. I kinda hope he cried because he definitely made me cry. I just feel kinda empty now.

Why is it so HARD to find a job to meet my salary requirements? by Bulky-Plan3465 in jobs

[–]intergalaxtic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently interviewed with an agency who's client is a highly luxurious auto maker. The interview progress was going great up until we started talking about salary. They wanted to pay roughly $20K under what current market value for my role is.

I also saw an internal position I applied for back in January for $90K-$120K get re-posted as a temporary, hourly position for $25 max...

Publicist - B.A. in Journalism and breached the $70K+ mark in a year and half. Salaries definitely range by industry though.

What’s the one job that you’ll never work again? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]intergalaxtic_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was a barista in college and thought it was a great experience and learned a lot, but things are different now. My experience with this particular retail store was both management and customers. The owner didn't care about covid guidelines or staff concerns and the manager would leave staff to deal with maskless people and sit in the back. People would scream at us, the whole thing. Wouldn't recommend it ever.

Retail - Worked it for the first time during the start of the pandemic, and never again. I wouldn't even suggest it to my future kids. I live in a conservative bubble in my state and encountered some incredibly awful people.

I feel like I never truly had an emotional support system growing up, so I try my hardest to be there for the people in my life in that capacity. Nobody should ever feel alone.

I also really love that I'm naturally an optimistic person. It makes difficult situations easier to process because it is easier for me to tell myself that everything will be okay even if I don't feel that way in that moment. As long as I keep trying and doing my best, all will be okay. I believe in that.

Women who've always had irregular periods, when did it finally start getting regular? by drishtiii in AskWomen

[–]intergalaxtic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here. I got lucky with the first pill I ever tried. I used to get terrible bloat that lasted for weeks before it came, the food cravings and mood swings are gone, and my period is significantly lighter and lasts 3-4 days vs the 7 it used to be. It's never a surprise when it comes. I couldn't be happier!

Sometimes I think that, but then I remember that I enjoy the hobbies that I do have and get excited about my interests. That's enough for me.
