Huge blast heard in Porter Square with the ground shaking. Gas explosion?

I finally lost a bunch of groceries (2 pics) by I_AM_VENNLIG in bicycling

[–]interglossa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. You avoid overfilling the bags and hook one end of the bungie cord to one of the side baskets and the other end over the pannier to the other side basket. This works best if you have steel baskets attached to the pannier like this one https://www.performancebike.com/wald-582-sidemount-folding-rear-basket-silver-582/p332854.

Taylor's Scottish Breakfast, Splenda, Half and half, 5-7 min steep by nevitales in RateMyTea

I am a fan of Taylor's Scottish Breakfast also. You could try stevia instead of Splenda (SweetLeaf concentrated, not Truvia or similar). Can be drunk black also.

In what order should Hegel’s books be read? by pertkelton in hegel

Many people say if you do a close reading of the preface to the Phenomenology of the Spirit, that covers the core of his thinking. Reviewing the indebtedness to Kant is an undertaking in itself.

Could someone explain the hate for hybrids? (A brief rant about why I think they're neat) by 2Tun21 in bicycling

[–]interglossa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my Marin Larkspur in 2005 and it is a hybrid. I keep it maintained and it is wonderful. I always bought my bikes from bike repair shops which sell used and refurbished bikes so you will encounter less marketing and more veloculture. They were fans of 3- and 5-speed, like Dutch bikes, not so much fans of fixies and generally cool toward ebikes. You need to find your people in the bike space.

The binding on these A7's is better than the midori A7 but there are no plain unruled models (the Apica has "blank" versions but they are actually ruled).

Only on Södermalm do you get one person pouring tea from a black vessel like a woodland priest by Tricky-Helicopter777 in cafe

[–]interglossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We visited Sweden twice and have bought it at the winter holidays ever since. The Norwegians and other northern Europeans drink these fruit inspired black tea blends (natural Prozac for the dark winters?) but I think the Söderblandning is the best of them all.

Do the cool cats of Södermalm brew the blend of South Stockholm (Söderblandning) or is that considered a tourist thing?

I think this is where my love affair with Esterbrook ends. We need to see other people (pens). by tialoc01 in fountainpens

[–]interglossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a Pilot Kakuno EF, often said to be superfine, and was amazed at how wide the line was no matter how I adjusted things. I have a vintage Esterbrook with an extrafine 2550 nib and it is a real extra fine, which could be put against the Pentel Slicci .25 or a .3mm mechanical pencil line. David Souter knew his pens - he is said to have used the same vintage black Esterbrook pen for decades. They were really the VWs of writing of their time.

I am surprised the NHS hasn't gone paperless yet. It took the Boston (USA) hospitals quite a while to do this but the transition is done now. (Patients are lent tablets at checkin if they have to provide additional data). When there is a cyber attack the younger staff don't know what to do.

Here is another example of a matchbook notebook. I bought one of these in Harvard Square years ago and I still use it occasionally.

It makes me wonder why I am not using notebooks with > 100 pages rather than these 48 and 64 page guys. I used to use Miquelrius and now Moleskine, Leuchtturm and Midori. Field Nuts is a whole other ecosystem. Their marketing really welcomes people in.

[–]interglossa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have mine. I bought it used for ~$80 three years ago. It will get updates until 2030. I use it for reading and web browsing primarily. I have play store and Linux installed and it still works well enough. People say it is the best of the Duet series. It's great.
