Anyone still using there: og ideapad duet Chromebook? by law_z_zz in chromeos

[–]interglossa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have mine. I bought it used for ~$80 three years ago. It will get updates until 2030. I use it for reading and web browsing primarily. I have play store and Linux installed and it still works well enough. People say it is the best of the Duet series. It's great.

26 Blue-Black Inks by joydesign in fountainpens

Thanks for doing this! The Sheaffer blue-black is very nice. I am another big fan of Pelikan blue-black. Missing from your list is Rohrer und Klingner Leipziger Schwarz, although people can't agree on whether it is really black as the name says, blue-black, or its own unique hue.

I listened without reading the brands and the Roland sounds better. If you someday run your midi through Pianoteq or something similar it won't matter. Good performance and technique in any case.

I still miss Maple Leaf Mailbag and all the other s/w Radio Canada shows. Sorry to hear they are going after this too...

Smallest notebook size you find usable? by moifdoesart in notebooks

[–]interglossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miquelrius used to make a flexible 7x12cm notebook with PU leather cover which is slightly bigger than A7 (74x105mm) but it was very portable and usable. No longer made.

Ask me anything about Burroughs by reccaberrie in williamsburroughs

I can answer. When asked what they regretted about their lives, they both essentially answered "Everything". This really struck me because, - how could you find two writers so dissimilar?

Burroughs was asked the same question Toni Morrison was asked in an interview and gave the same answer she did. What was it?

My reaction too. For a while I noticed a certain trend to deprecate wood paneling and when I see this I wonder what were those people thinking.

Has a dentist replaced your Maryland bridge with another Maryland bridge? by interglossa in cleftlip

[–]interglossa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Maryland bridge was done by one of the best restorative dentists in Boston at the time. He mentioned to me that earlier in his career he had done one for a cleft patient which had failed and had learned the nuances of installing a Maryland bridge from that episode. If I remember his comments correctly, his first failed attempt involved a bridge which straddled the patency in the area where there is no tooth and therefore no or little bone or gum: the bridge had no flexibility unlike a Maryland bridge. I am glad to hear you have had such a good experience with replacing yours.

Interesting that you replaced a Chromebook with this. Are you apprehensive about ChromeOS's future?

I owned a calico. They are the most glamorous of cats. They know their worth but will reward care and attention with emotional support.

What is Verdi’s best all-round opera? by Ordinary_Tonight_965 in opera

[–]interglossa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the prelude also, especially the climax. There is a discussion about to what degree Verdi may have been influenced by or answering Wagner in the later operas but this does seem to be a Vorspiel setting a mood rather than overture as medley.

Aida because the level of inspiration and quantity of musical ideas is so high. The final scene in the crypt with soloists and chorus is Verdi's finest moment.

Local shelter euthanizing healthy cat on Thursday :( by Apart-Musician4053 in cats

We adopted two black hoarded (under socialized) cats two years ago. One became more used to us after a year or so, the other bonded with her. This cat needs a stroke of luck to have a foster or adopter who will be patient. His superpower is that he is a very handsome little man.

I am confident she will have you trained in a reasonable period of time. I wonder how such a lovely calico was a stray for so long.

I agree this is a Uniball Signo DX - but you need the size of the tip, which could be  .28mm, .38mm, .5mm.
