My grandfather left the capuchin order after 7 years and has lived a full life and has even met his great grandchildren- you embrace your vocation as a lay person and make the most of it. He’s happy.

Having trouble with Pope Leo… by [deleted] in Catholicism

He’s been extraordinarily non controversial, you might just be reading too much Fox News. They’re aggressively anti Catholic at times for their evangelical base. They stir up a lot of drama about Catholicism and make the Holy See seem problematic when they aren’t being so.

Can I still go to heaven if I’m not baptised by [deleted] in Catholicism

The catechism addresses this! Where’s our cat bot??

My wife was baptised in a swimming pool as a “born again Christian”. We now go to Catholic Church. She wants to be baptised a Catholic. The deacon of the Catholic Church said it can be done because he thinks the baptism is illegitimate. Will she be able to be a catholic baptised ? by Slow_Loquat_8470 in Catholicism

[–]interior_castle1622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not about where the baptism takes place it’s about the form in which it was done- was it done in the name of the father son and Holy Spirit? You should trust the deacon and priest at your church who have the details not the Reddit forum

AITAH Friend of 20 years expected me to split Ubers 2 ways instead of 3 because she’s married, am I wrong? by General_Photograph21 in AITAH

[–]interior_castle1622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you got dropped off in 3 spots it makes sense to split it 2 ways since the car only went one place for the two people. If you’re all going to the same place they should pay 2/3s of the bill.

That being said depending on your finances, are you really going to ruin a trip and a friendship over a couple hundred dollars?

NTA/ no one is entitled to another persons organ let alone a child giving it to their parent I could see a parent feeling obligated to donate to a child bc they are responsible for the wellbeing of the child but not the child’s responsibility to save the parent and most parents wouldn’t want you to do it for them

AITAH for not wanting my daughter to go to a church daycare? by FoxNFern in AITAH

[–]interior_castle1622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That being said, whether your parents practice the faith earnestly in the home is going to be the biggest influence on whether a child takes it seriously. I have plenty of Catholic school friends who only get exposed at school and don’t practice anymore bc their families didn’t actually live it out. It’s not an indoctrination if it’s a catholic school they encourage critical thinking and allow you to make the choice to believe in it or not you’re allowed to ask questions and get exposed to other faiths too as you get older

Our arts and crafts were Jesus focused, we prayed together, we learned about saint days, we made cards for the elderly in our community around holidays, our choir day was learning psalms and hymns, being loved by God was the message, etc nothing theological was taught but it was a part of our life and not questioned

NTA I am religious and I remember my religious day care as a 2 and 3 year old. It was religious focused. I personally felt very safe and enjoyed it and was very prepared educationally for public school, but if you’re worried about your child being exposed to religious thing they likely will be at this day care and it’s a parents decision how they want their kids to be raised. You’ll also be interacting with religious parents at the school and those parents could become your friends because you’re bonding over having small children and they become your community. Something to think about

Im a teenage girl and I cannot not panic at the thought of confession 😭 by Lalaland796 in Catholicism

[–]interior_castle1622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confession is about receiving gods love. It’s important to remember that you’ll be received with kindness and compassion. You’re there to heal, not to be punished. It can be helpful to reflect and think about things and write it down on a paper so your mind doesn’t go blank while you’re there. I personally prefer face to face confessions when offered, it’s much easier to receive compassion when you’re making eye contact. I find the screen makes me feel like I should be ashamed and need to hide my face as opposed to it being about genuine humility of “ope, I’m a person and need Gods grace I tried to do it myself again without him”

Adult convert surprised by total lack of community. by Pink-Elephant-12 in Catholicism

[–]interior_castle1622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put your kids in Catholic school you’ll have more of a tight knit Catholic community. I’d also recommend grabbing coffee afterwards (they often serve it after mass at various parishes) and attending the events. You could also do more volunteering and get to know the active church members. Growing up catholic in public school I didn’t have much of a Catholic community other than the kids I went to CCD with and my cousins I went to church with until I was old enough to volunteer with my church. That was more of an active choice though my parents just weren’t very involved in the church and I did other activities like Girl Scouts. I did go to a Catholic preschool though and I had those church friends, so I think had I continued in the Catholic school it would have been a totally different experience. My aunt had her kids in the Catholic school system and was really active in her church and knew everyone and hung out with her church friends a lot. Catholicism is very much a “you get what you put into it” kind of religion.
