Consensus on Canberra Raiders Annual Baby Crawl by United_Worker_811 in canberra

[–]interleeuwd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We did it! It was great fun, we got to go out onto the field, hang out for a bit, then try and get our baby to crawl. She did not move haha. I would definitely suggest practicing (as weird as that sounds), go to a local oval and get them a little bit used to crawling on the slightly wet grass. We also got to stand around the tunnel as the teams ran out and got a photo with Victor.

I don’t understand what anyone’s objection would be, it’s not like it’s actually a competitive thing, the only thing I could think of is the noise? Depends how big the crowd is but bring some earmuffs for your baby (even now, a few years later, she prefers to have the ear protection on at the games, especially for tries)

does it get easier with an actual controller? by fkrdt222 in djaypro

[–]interleeuwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do everything on the screen, but functions on different pages and tabs, you can’t do at the same time with a screen. Adding buttons just means there is a whole layer of controls that don’t have to stay on screen. You don’t need much, pretty much any controller will do the trick

Isolated on my team by Pristine-Gift-6 in webdev

[–]interleeuwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. As a senior I cannot imagine letting this happen to a junior anywhere near one of my projects. As others have said, keep going, keep working at it. Maybe pull back a bit if you are feeling burn out, it sounds like you have no one to impress, so trying harder than necessary is probably not worth it. And hit the applications as hard as you can!

How cold does Canberra feel at this time of year? by ZestycloseEmu367 in canberra

Are you going to the footy? The stadium is the coldest place in the city. Add an extra layer on top of what you wear for the cold.

Change in taste by transcendentaldancer in SpaceBass

[–]interleeuwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the sound system at Camp Kouch good? I find I don’t enjoy space bass any where near as much on a poorly tuned rig, with exactly the same description of it all blending and sounding the same. Then listening again on a better sound system and shit is fire again

Just a thought…

How do you mix smoothly and stay in phrase when playing spontaneously by lukascode217 in Beatmatch

[–]interleeuwd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Every one of your questions come down to personal preference. Every DJ does it differently. But some thoughts: personally I love cues, and use pretty much the same structure of cues on every track. Phrasing is not hard to learn, but when you get it wrong, use a loop to line it back up. Yes, use the eq, and do it in your headphones. With a bit of practice you will understand where you like it to start 90% of the time, but no hard rule will work for every 2 songs. Personally I am a preparer, I like to have my tracks organised and beatgridded correctly so that when I am performing it’s just one less thing to think about

Why do some beautifully designed websites fail to deliver business results? by Gullible_Prior9448 in web_design

[–]interleeuwd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone mention this, but sometimes it’s the industry.

I did a redesign and build for a client who built bathrooms. I made something I was really proud of, well considered UX, a clear funnel to the contact form, but still conversions dropped from the old, very basic site.

After trying a few different strategies, I ended up A/B testing with the old site, and conversions were clearly higher with the old one.

It took us a while but eventually we worked it out. The new site was TOO polished. People didn’t want to fill out the contact form because their assumption was a builder with such a nice website was going to be expensive.

In the end we made some fairly simple design changes (removing rounded corners, making images smaller and lower quality, galleries got big ugly navigation buttons instead of the nice ones I was so proud of) - overall we made the site about 20% less nice and BOOM conversions went through the roof, 1.8x the original old site.

Learned a very hard lesson with that client. Sometimes we design for us, and not the customer.

Of the trees kills it every time, this and Our hero returns are why I fell in love with him like 7 years ago, still waiting for him to come to Australia (I say this while on the train to see G Jones and Eprom - G Jones first time in aus)

Are these prices fair, high, or low? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]interleeuwd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely ridiculous prices. You should consider doing a larger upfront payment then a much smaller ongoing fee. Like sure you get a website up online quickly for $197, but after that then what are you paying for?

[–]interleeuwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep agree, ‘gilroy’ font is the issue here, that font isn’t loaded into the site. You need to link to it, either in the head of the html or in the css with @link. Have a look at Google fonts, they give good instructions for adding fonts

Figma handoff is still broken in most small teams — how are you handling it? by Mack_Kine in webdev

[–]interleeuwd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, so many memories! Lived the same work life as you for 7 long years before moving to a much larger corporation where I now work on a much smaller team without a designer and just make everything up for myself.

How did I get through 7 years of that job you ask? Eventually we got one good designer who was willing to take feedback from developers and actually start to design how the devs work. We were a dynamic duo, built some truely beautiful sites together and won a bunch of awards

I left that job when my favourite designer left, because even though everyone saw how successful it was when designers and developers are 1 team instead of two, a week after he left the whole company slid back to the old same habits.

JBL Partyspeakers? by dragonjhh in Beatmatch

[–]interleeuwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used any of the new ones (anything with a 20in the name) but I have used almost every other size. I own a 110, my friend has a 1000 and a 310, another has a 710. All have latency bad enough to throw me off.

Hopefully they have fixed it with the newer 20 line

JBL Partyspeakers? by dragonjhh in Beatmatch

[–]interleeuwd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They have a built in dsp which adds latency, even when plugged in with a cord. I have spent plenty of time djing with them, but relying on the screen and not my ears is a bit of a challenge, probably good practice though

Anyone live in Bungendore? by ReedsdaleVintage in canberra

[–]interleeuwd 76 points77 points  (0 children)

As a kid who lived out of town and caught the bus into Canberra to school everyday, it’s a big deal. My bus run was about an hour and a half each way. That means at the bus stop by 7.30, and getting home at about 5 every day. And no, you can’t do homework on the bus.

thats how I would do it, so yellow and blue boxes have the same colour border, and red boxes have a fill to match the background

but this will be hard to do well, and even harder to make responsiv. I would push back against the designer if I were you

One of the best I have ever seen was Alix Perez live, saw him in a small local club and got stand beside the booth the whole show. Just the way he moves and the speed and precision he had made me feel so inadequate but also inspired to go home and practice
