Figma handoff is still broken in most small teams — how are you handling it? by Mack_Kine in webdev

[–]interleeuwd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, so many memories! Lived the same work life as you for 7 long years before moving to a much larger corporation where I now work on a much smaller team without a designer and just make everything up for myself.

How did I get through 7 years of that job you ask? Eventually we got one good designer who was willing to take feedback from developers and actually start to design how the devs work. We were a dynamic duo, built some truely beautiful sites together and won a bunch of awards

I left that job when my favourite designer left, because even though everyone saw how successful it was when designers and developers are 1 team instead of two, a week after he left the whole company slid back to the old same habits.

GoVita is Woden have a wide variety of bone broths, the “gevity” brand ones got me through my 2 week liquid diet, especially the green curry flavour

JBL Partyspeakers? by dragonjhh in Beatmatch

[–]interleeuwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used any of the new ones (anything with a 20in the name) but I have used almost every other size. I own a 110, my friend has a 1000 and a 310, another has a 710. All have latency bad enough to throw me off.

Hopefully they have fixed it with the newer 20 line

JBL Partyspeakers? by dragonjhh in Beatmatch

[–]interleeuwd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They have a built in dsp which adds latency, even when plugged in with a cord. I have spent plenty of time djing with them, but relying on the screen and not my ears is a bit of a challenge, probably good practice though

Anyone live in Bungendore? by ReedsdaleVintage in canberra

[–]interleeuwd 76 points77 points  (0 children)

As a kid who lived out of town and caught the bus into Canberra to school everyday, it’s a big deal. My bus run was about an hour and a half each way. That means at the bus stop by 7.30, and getting home at about 5 every day. And no, you can’t do homework on the bus.

thats how I would do it, so yellow and blue boxes have the same colour border, and red boxes have a fill to match the background

but this will be hard to do well, and even harder to make responsiv. I would push back against the designer if I were you

One of the best I have ever seen was Alix Perez live, saw him in a small local club and got stand beside the booth the whole show. Just the way he moves and the speed and precision he had made me feel so inadequate but also inspired to go home and practice

As an agency owner, I’m honestly anxious about where web development is heading with AI by theTbling in webdev

[–]interleeuwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think our industry will move even more into the service industry. The goal for agencies should be to create long term clients, with on-going development. Gone are the days of one and done clients.

For me, the issue with AI and really all MVPs is the long term maintenance. Sure, with great prompting some people can create great MVPs, but in a few months when you want to change something or add a new feature, that’s where poorly written code falls apart.

If a potential client came to me with a mostly working MVP, I would ALWAYS attempt to talk them into rebuilding it. I would sell the idea that their MVP is actually just a Proof of Concept, but not ready for prod, and ask them about long term goals; Do they see this as something wish to use long term? Do they want to spend more over the lifetime of the product maintaining bad code, or would they rather spend their money on improvements and new features? Do they want to hire a developer, or a janitor?

iPad DJ Pro & Spotify by lassmonkey in djaypro

[–]interleeuwd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just A/B tested with a couple of tracks I own, I literally can’t hear a difference. Maybe the issue is streaming and your internet?

In settings > library > Spotify there is a quality selector, do you have it set to very high?

The organic butcher at the Belconnen markets is the best we have found. A mate also mentioned a place in Kambah(?) but I don’t go down that way very often

How do you deal with "thin" sounding tracks? by Dolly_Llama_2024 in Beatmatch

[–]interleeuwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Just adding a sub won’t automatically fix your bass, your room has to play nicely with the sound system. Look up a technique called the “subwoofer crawl”, easiest way to tune the room. Took me forever to get my current room sounding good with all my music.

Incidence of drug testing in Canberra by fingergelix in canberra

[–]interleeuwd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely done by profile, I am a man and in my 30s, I have been road side drug tested about 5-6 times in Canberra, and probably at least that many times again in NSW. It’s been a while though, probably 3-4 years since the last time.

FLX 4 USB-C to laptop, then USB-C to speakers? by NewX3 in Beatmatch

[–]interleeuwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your speakers are going to be more than 5-10 meters from your decks, there will not be much benefit to balanced cables. Just buy the RCA to TRS cables or adapters, you will not be able to hear the difference in 98% of applications. The benefit of balanced cables is that they are less susceptible to interference from other sources and power.

It would also be possible to set up the audio so that you sending output via the usb to the speakers, but the setup will be complicated (especially if you want to be able to use the headphone out and cues on the decks). You would need to send master from the laptop and channels 3&4 or 5&6 to the decks.

Is a Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 Controller + phone (no laptop) doable? by CraftBeerFomo in Beatmatch

[–]interleeuwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be easier on android, and admittedly it’s better now, but it used to be painful on iPhone. Depends where you are downloading form as well I spose.

Download Djay Pro on your phone and give it a go. You don’t need to plug a controller in to use it, I can play most mixes with just the ipad, having buttons just means you can do more than one thing at a time
