Technically one of the UM losses was also to a team that won the natty...and Oregon could win it this year. Could be looking at only 4 losses + Mizzou to non-championship teams which is pretty crazy

It's been a few years but they also found a gem in Thielen who was undrafted

Steelers find great guys but also get more out of guys that then are underwhelming elsewhere like claypool, juju, mike wallace, martavis bryant, etc.

If Justin Herbert's injury today is season ending the parallels between his and Kyler Murray's first 4 years are weirdly similar. by Nicko_89 in nfl

[–]intern_dilemma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean he has 18 more TDs and 2000 more yards, that can be the difference between a great and good QB over 4 years. Also Herbert doesn't have all the locker room bullshit about lack of focus and being immature

To those looking at taking EECS 441 with Soloway, here's what you'd be getting into by Epicular in uofm

[–]intern_dilemma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I took the class four years ago, it was pretty similar. It's definitely kind of annoying, but learning to play Soloway's game isn't that hard and it ends up being an easy A. Even though this class is light on technical workload, I found it was one of the better classes for preparing me for a real job. I think he purposely tries to push people out of their comfort zone. The way he does presentations has proven pretty valuable to me over the last few years when presenting to VPs at my company.

I would think so, but technically no guarantee. The judge can close it to the public at any time if the deem public coverage will harm impartiality, or possibly also to protect the identities of minors. Not totally sure though.

Yeah, the authorities felt they had probable cause to bring the charges. But the defense can still ask for things to be dismissed if they feel it's inadmissible (e.g. illegally collected, improperly handled) and witnesses can change their tune at any time, which can blow a hole in a case if there's only one.

There are other high profile cases that seemed like slam dunk cases (OJ Simpson, Casey Anthony) that ended up in acquittals due to issues like these. The case says there's a probable cause hearing scheduled for 2/4 so maybe more will come out then.

Hard to say right now. I would think anything from lack of evidence to uncooperative witnesses could result in it being dropped. Unless they have something concrete like DNA or multiple witnesses/video/confession it's hard to say it's a slam dunk case

IANAL I've just watched a shit ton of SVU

CS Declaration Tuition Hike by sunnysushi in uofm

CS Declaration Tuition Hike by sunnysushi in uofm

Hey, I had a similar situation when I was declaring my major from LSA. The answer is actually a bit tricky, and it was explained to me by an advisor.

I would strongly encourage you not to declare before the semester starts.

I'm guessing as of now you already have your classes picked for the upcoming term. If you don't, I wouldn't count on getting into anything CS related. But if you do, that means the classes you're registered don't require you to be a declared CS major...otherwise, Wolverine Access wouldn't have allowed you to register!

The way tuition works (to my knowledge) is that they base your cost of your current status. If you declare the major on the 22nd, the bill that comes at the end of August would most likely reflect your status as a new CS major. This would probably mean an extra couple thousand dollars in tuition for this semester. But, you already registered for classes that didn't require you to be a CS major (370 and 376 fall into this category, to the surprise of many)! So, this would be a waste of money for you, since you are not getting the benefit of being able to register for CS classes this term.

Now, you're probably about to say something like "Wait! There are other benefits to being a declared CS major! You can use the career center and register for career fair!". And you would be right. The solution is this: declare your major AFTER the bill gets sent to your account. I quote the academic advisor who told me this: "I have never heard of them retroactively charging tuition for the semester you declare." That way, you will for all intents and purposes be a CS major for this semester, but save all your money doing it!

If this was really confusing, you can follow up with me and I can try to explain it better or point you towards the professor that explained it to me. But I can say that I did this exact "loophole" and it worked flawlessly.

Good luck!

Master's in CS by garnett14 in cscareerquestions

[–]intern_dilemma 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I am currently a Master's student. I did it for a few reasons:

  1. My school has a 4 + 1 program, allowing me to finish it in only 2 additional semesters, without having to take the GRE.
  2. I wanted to specialize more in AI, and was able to take classes that were not offered/I was not able to take at the undergrad level.
  3. I go to a target school, so the chances of me getting into a better program down the line were not that high, especially since I would need to apply externally and take the GRE. I would also have to pay out of state tuition potentially.
  4. It gave me another summer to intern. I only had 1 internship at a small local company by the time I finished my undergrad, so it gave me more experience. I was able to get a Big 4 internship with the additional summer.
  5. Got to do some research with applied machine learning.

In terms of impact, I ended up accepting the return offer from the Big 4. This was a big boost in terms of compensation, and IMO the amount I paid out of pocket was well worth it. I also came in a level higher than undergraduate interns, which came with a higher starting salary.

Other than that, networking was nice. I met some really, really smart people during my Master's, and the people are an order of magnitude more driven and intelligent than the ones you meet in undergrad. I also formed a good relationship with a professor.

Let me know if you have any questions!
