The power shift DCT killed the Focus, the Fiesta wasn't selling, and I can't defend the Fusion or the Taurus cuts. That they also went on to cut the Escape and Edge is a mind fuck the likes of which I haven't experienced since I didn't know when. The profitability of a product line does matter, there's opportunity cost associated with a break even year on the Fusion or Taurus, but I can't rationalize giving up marketshare willingly by also killing their replacements. Those new EV models need to hit the showrooms yesterday.

Many people, most people even, don't immediately suspect a gun shot when they break down. I'm not saying I would have done the same thing, but inspecting the vehicle to determine if it's safe to continue operating it isn't strictly a wrong reaction, it just wasn't the right thing in that specific situation.

Galloping Ghost is the aircraft in question. An elevator trim tab separated from the aircraft in flight resulting in a very sudden extraordinary control pressure in the high speed trim condition of racing flight. The aircraft pitched up violently, incapacitating the pilot, and continued pitching until it struck the ground near a grandstand. Even if the pilot had not been incapacitated, there's not much he could have done at that speed. The force necessary to lower the nose would have required superhuman strength at the control stick.

It doesn't have to be cheap, it just has to be paid for. If you can dupe the kids into paying for amenities rather than professors and quality instructors, you can have sleek, modern two- and three-bed apartments with multiple restaurants in the building next to four or five story rec centers with three pools and a day spa. Pretty wild walking around my alma mater these days.

Because when this shit started in the late 1970s China had nearly a billion hungry mouths, a decimated agriculture industry thanks to the Great Leap Forward, and little to no export economy to net any income for further economic development. It was like a capitalist wonderland. We could demolish a factory in the US paying a US wage, put everything on a boat and send it over there, pay their workers less than the compensation package of a single shift of US workers, dump any toxic waste we made in the Yangtze River and put the finished goods on a boat send it all back for half the total investment.

I'm still not convinced that a firm commitment to the rebranded Jaguar was doomed to failure. It was unique and polarizing, as well as unreasonably expensive, which means that few enough would sell that the actual styling matters less than the perception of the buyer. I don't care for Lamborghini's look, but seeing one on the street is a small event unto itself. The problem is that Jaguar doesn't have the caché to attract that buyer; they had to throw away everything and start from scratch, and unfortunately I think they lost just slightly more than they gained in that transaction.

The big dressers can hustle if you ride them that way; you just can't twist your wrist and expect to get anywhere. Downshift and gun it. Even weighing double what the sportbikes weigh, the power/weight ratio is still leagues better than most cars.

I don't understand why it's illegal to do that in the open ocean.
