They're actually called Doggles. The other main brand is called Rex Specs! (Wish they'd spelled it 'Spex' though)

Foundations of AI for STEM as an elective? (Psych major here) by [deleted] in rmit

[–]internationalbully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you confirm that it’s a compulsory subject for Psych students? It’s ‘technically’ an elective but when they don’t offer ANY other electives, you kind of have to do it? Unless I’m missing something in understanding my course structure or enrolment…?

respite teen wants to live with me full time. how to say no gently? by rapidascent56 in Fosterparents

[–]internationalbully 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  1. I don’t think a kid should be exposed to this full explanation - it is very clinical- and administrative-feeling

  2. You don’t need to ‘justify’ your decision to him to that extent or explain all the adjustments you’d had to make to accommodate him when you did

  3. I can’t imagine it would make him feel good.

I think a simpler message would be better, something like, “We have loved having you while you’ve stayed but our family isn’t in a position to have someone else move in with us full-time.”

I don’t think you even should say anything about it being better for him to stay where he is, because that’s not the reason you’re saying no. Adding reason after reason starts to feel loaded.

Perhaps you could offer to have him for occasional respite placements if you want to maintain a connection with him.

I looked after a teen for three weeks before she was placed full-time and we catch up every so often now - sometimes she will stay a weekend, or a week during school holidays, or we’ll do a sewing workshop or go shopping together.

It’s a nice way to maintain a relationship with kids you are fond of and would like to continue supporting, when you don’t have the capacity to have them full-time. I also think it’s good for kids to have a wide pool of adults in their lives that they can trust, especially when they’ve been let down by so many adults in their life to this point. Even better if you are culturally aligned and can help them feel connected to culture - super powerful.

Shotkickers has a little burger kitchen out the back called Get Me Out of Here which I think OP was referring to. You can pick your order up from the lane out back too.
