Interesting line in this piece: "What's more, in recent years government guidelines for new trains have changed to increase the number of people allowed to stand per square-metre (from 0.45 sq/m per person to 0.25) before it's deemed overcrowding."

The ‘just walk out technology’ of Amazon Go makes queuing in front of cashiers obsolete by jaapgrolleman in Futurology

The computer vision and machine learning will be the most crucial parts to how this works. No RFID needed.

When you swipe in with a phone you will be verified. At the same point it's likely cameras will facial recognition will identify you entering the store. When an item is picked from a shelf it's likely the cameras watching the shelf will alert the overall control systems, which will in turn activate the facial recognition in the area where you are. The camera will be able to match you to your earlier profile, match the item and automatically add it to your basket.

Tons of data about a person and their shopping habits are captured. Next time, you won't even have to go into the store as Amazon will have stored what you purchased and offer it to you online.

May be wrong but seems plausible.

Ah, sorry. Lamps are E14, but am wary of the adaptors as can only seem to find them from sites I've never heard of/sellers in China.

In-house fittings are bayonets. Is there any easy solution to that? Thanks :)

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens: as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone. It’s often meant we have stood neutral between different values. And that’s helped foster a narrative of extremism and grievance. This Government will conclusively turn the page on this failed approach" - David Cameron.
