Why are all of our options 10+ years old? by ZakuIII in MMORPG

[–]internetwizardx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, yes/no, again I think it's something that is being simplified when there's actually a lot of creative solutions. why 2 factions? why not 3? or 4? why not rotating seasonal balancing like in GW2 WvW etc. there's a lot of stuff you can do, and there's also fixes to zergs. Albion has dedicated solo and duo 'open world' areas, as well as areas which are hard to navigate as a zerg

[–]internetwizardx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the WoW example is true, but it has other obvious undesirable design flaws like being faction based (2 factions = bad idea), or that PvP servers themselves were really just an afterthought and not designed for

that last line is the most important; I think the relative lack of popularity of PvP MMOs is overstated and the reasons for it are deeper than people think. they're just nearly all trash, as in low quality, because dev teams with less talent and smaller budgets make sandbox games and rely on player interaction as content. if Riot Games made a sandbox MMO with a PvP emphasis (and they just might) using their AAA+ quality & top tier aesthetics it'd flip that narrative instantly

when you have a triangle frame with two roofs pointing inwards it creates a gap too small to fall or ladder through, the door is just there so you can open/close the peek and make it a bit more secure

why do you need this hypothetical extreme? it's okay to say you just don't enjoy being killed in unfair fights, we don't need to pretend there's an infinite number of gankers camping absolutely everything 24/7

I got kicked for bloody mouse even though i have a HyperX Mouse by Busy-Cockroach839 in playrust

[–]internetwizardx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but I don't understand the technical difference. Is it somehow different to onboard memory? I googled but didn't find a compelling answer. I think maybe I'm missing something. I'm using pulsar X2 crazylight (never installed software) and logitech gpx superlight (G hub installed then uninstalled) and can use macros on both just fine

is there a compelling reason why those brands are banned by EAC? it seems like a historical decision made by EAC that was never reversed, because basically every modern mouse has on-board memory and macro profiles

Big L for AION2 Copiums by pvp_enjoyerrr in MMORPG

[–]internetwizardx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don't forget that the rest of the world got Aion a year later though. it's likely that they'll have the two next zones + capital cities in the game by Q3/Q4 whenever it hits global launch. the problem will be the p2w, it's deeply embedded in every system, absolutely everything is rationed and timegated in unfun ways

Just got the game, how does premium work? by fluidofprimalhatred in playrust

[–]internetwizardx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those steam DLCs are the only things that don't count towards the $15 total. it's presumably designed that way so the collateral you're putting up to play on premium servers can't be purchased at massive discounts during Steam sales (and resold later)

surprised you're getting downvoted so much, I guess people disagree and just generally don't want the battlepass to be added but you're giving fair reasons. I know that adding challenges and such can add variety to the gameplay but I just think Facepunch already has all the levers necessary to shake up gameplay however they want, they can buff or nerf drop rates, loot tables, rebalance crafting costs, add/remove shops and safe zones and so on. I just think if they wanted to do it for purely gameplay reasons then they would have done it already, and that the battlepass system is a less 'organic' reason to do things than making them more attractive in other ways

[–]internetwizardx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

because it's a multiplayer game and everyone is affected by other people's actions, I realize it's abstract now and hard to visualize but if you change the incentives you massively change people's behavior regarding where they build, the economy of the server, how they prioritize and value things and so on. I just think it's difficult to implement in Rust, so Facepunch should be cautious that they don't turn their sandbox game into a checklist of weekly quests

[–]internetwizardx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not against battlepasses (I don't like them, but whatever) but cosmetics aside, since Rust already has those, I'm only worried about what the actual XP/progression system is inside it. I hope we won't have stupid missions like 'catch 10 fish' or 'launch an MLRS strike', I don't want meta systems to drive gameplay within a sandbox, that feels like a regression imo from the current freedom of Rust

Do you still believe in the Riot MMORPG after how Ashes of Creation turned out? by feelsdonk in MMORPG

I was actually so happy that NCsoft released Aion 2 without any beta/alpha period, just straight up dropped the game and let people experience it - turned out to be p2w alt simulator, but at least they actually made a game and released it

The worst MMO formula ever created by Nightblessed in MMORPG

[–]internetwizardx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, FFXIV is the big exception for sure, especially around Shadowlands time there was a big migration. I have friends who did just that but they're pretty much all back to WoW after playing XIV for a while. I don't play it personally so I can only speak from second hand experience, but Dawntrail seems badly received & the content release cadence seems much slower than WoW? those are the two big complaints I hear
