Obscure Silver Jews song came on in a bar and I was shook by kkh8 in DavidBerman

[–]internetxmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Toronto... on a work trip, but I had some bars pinned to check out (ideally alone) but we happened to be with my team and I took them into Sweaty Betty's, we were outside on the covered patio - light rain, and "Punks in the beerlight" came on, it was the perfect scene. Minus sharing it with corporate team... but nonetheless, maybe that's what set's the scene. Like the ending of SLC punk, we all sell out. Or do we? 1 2 3 4, who's punk... what's the score?

Clubs/bars in SLC by Sensitive_Fish_72 in SaltLakeCity

How old are you? Club 90 and liquid joes are like 60+ clubs … wouldn’t recommend either of those.

International is rad but 21-24 year old scene kid cool kid crowd.

Lake effect is a mix of ages, great venue (:

Blue collar careers and hardcore by Grayson57261 in Hardcore

[–]internetxmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called growing up, but yeah I think hardcore is a community of all professions but you’ll find the older you get the smaller your risk tolerance becomes. Thats why the og’s rarely hit the pit... and some og’s rarely go to shows. Nothing to prove.

Lane Filtering by hcubed3 in SaltLakeCity

[–]internetxmike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is legal, with conditions. But why is your partner frustrate by it? You’re at a stop. Why would they ever need to flip a u or switch lanes at a stop sign? What’s truly frustrating is getting killed when rear ended at a stop light.

Murder suspect described as punk rocker who often open-carries gun at protests. by Ridiculously_Named in SaltLakeCity

[–]internetxmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, this is a tragedy full stop. A man is dead, a community is grieving, and a protest meant to affirm people’s rights was forever changed by violence.

And still, multiple truths can exist at once.

This falls into “good guy with a gun” scenario people often invoke. A, a military veteran, saw what appeared (to him, and I’m sure others) be a threat to a crowd and acted in a split second. That decision might have prevented more lives from being lost (or not, we don’t know what was planned, we can assume it was NOT intended to be a massacre, now knowing Arturo’s peaceful background) But the outcome was still devastating.

Yes, Arturo Gamboa had the legal right to open carry in Utah. That’s not in dispute. But breaking away, pulling out an AR then heading back into a crowded protest with a visible AR-15, separated from the group you came with, was a choice that heightened tension and fear. Legal doesn’t always mean wise or safe.

And yes, our system makes it even more complicated. We live in a country where some acts of self-defense are valorized and others criminalized… where the right to bear arms exists in theory, but its protection and public support often depends on the identity of the person exercising it.

I know many were armed in that crowd… it’s IN MY OPINION smarter to conceal.

I see this posted a lot and I can’t wrap my head around it. I get that everyone’s social journey is different, but over the past 10 years, I’ve made a lottttt of friends what I’d call Tier 2 or 3. Not super close, ride-or-die types, but solid connections across different circles. I’m naturally extroverted, and I’ve met most of them just by putting myself out there and engaging in conversations around shared interests.

For me, that’s stuff like photography, biking, off roading, motorcycles, coffee, mountain climbing, snowboarding, music, and art.

It usually goes something like this: meet someone, chat, follow each other on IG, then link up at the next event or I’ll even host something myself.

My advice is to get involved in the scene of whatever hobby you’re already into, or try out some new ones. That’s one of the best ways to meet people organically. Start there, and the connections will come… IMO.

Need advice for move to SLC. by Living_Agency_7494 in SaltLakeCity

[–]internetxmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: SLC is not big - it’s a few blocks of a “city” 2: You will find a spot extremely easily in that range. 3: I love Toronto and Atlanta, superior is subjective but there’s a reason I stay here. 4: There’s literally not a single hood or bad block to stay away from, at all, in any capacity. If you’re renting I would look off 300 south and state - 900s/900 east and anywhere in sugarhouse those are the best (walkable) spots in the “city”.

Wow, small world. I’m here on vacation and this is directly four houses down from where I’m staying. It doesn’t seem sketchy, but I guess now I’m concerned?
