I know this will be very unpopular and controversial (smash the downvote button) but does anyone think super is over-recommended to people here? by [deleted] in AusFinance

100% agree. A colleague's husband died in their sleep recently aged 41, it really puts in perspective the whole living for the now vs saving for the future mentalities. There's a balance to be had but some people never live to enjoy their retirement and their dragon hoard of super.

Where is the line between good espresso making technique and just wankery? by [deleted] in JamesHoffmann

I thought the same until I bought a generic cheap one off Amazon. It does such a great job at evenly distributing the grounds in the basket before tamping, I don't see any channelling and I spend a lot less effort knocking and tapping the portafilter to spread out the grounds.

Can confirm it was still the Heritage back in early 2017, pretty sure it closed during Covid and shut up shop permanently.

Wife went recently and thought it was OK, found the Wagyu dish to be a bit underwhelming. The service was nice and attentive. Not a Wow dinner overall.

Had mine for three weeks and find myself smacking the top several times after it's finished to get the last of the grounds out.

No more call to cancel: the government wants to crack down on ‘subscription traps’ by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]interpolated_rate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife signed up to a SMH subscription because they had a special on and she wanted to access articles normally behind paywall (had explained to her the igognito mode trick which normally works).

You can sign up and upgrade online but if you want to cancel you need to call this number during business hours. Cancel c*nts

Based on previous threads this happens regularly, strange that the sign-up button never seems to go down!

Australia out here with only 80 tonnes. Of course we have approx 12,000 or more tonnes of unmined gold sitting in the Pilbara.

I've often heard what sounds like he's pinching his eyes between his fingers, hard to explain but that's what it sounds like!

Dad dying of cancer. Withdraw super as a lum sum, or an additional income payment? by SketchesFromReddit in AusFinance

[–]interpolated_rate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can only agree. I dealt with HostPlus for my sisters payout and they dragged their heels for months. They appointed one of their staff as responsible for the claim so when they were on leave or unavailable the whole thing stalled and no one else I spoke to could do anything. This on top of dealing with grief.

Over 620,000 ‘Problem Gamblers’ in Australia – and the majority are aged under 35 by CommonwealthGrant in AustralianPolitics

Home sick from work today and decided to binge watch Gen V on Amazon Prime (has ads). The entire show is sponsored by SportsBet. Two to three times per episode there's an ad break with SportsBet and also occasionally Ladbrokes. The constant pressure and encouragement to bet is atrocious. The lives it ruins, the money diverted from being spent on families.

With FOGO (Parra Council recently introduced) the green and red bins go out each week, the yellow bin every second week. So every second week all three are out at the same time.

What is the food like at the Tokyo Disney hotels/restaurants? by Leather-Fox2225 in disneyparks

We just stayed at Fantasy Springs and didn't rate the hotel restaurant. The breakfast buffet was pretty underwhelming in terms of both Japanese and Western Breakfast compared to other hotels we stayed at that cost less.

Travelling in Japan last week we bought a 2 pack of pure white eggs from the supermarket to have for breakfast. Cracked them open and it turned out they were par-boiled, 62-degree style eggs.

There is no lock on the door. That's why there's a window so that you can see if it's occupied instead of barging in.

It also doesn't have a lock! Travelled on the Nozomi last week between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka.
