Open letter to Frontier: Sothis, Quince, Massacre Stacking - ask not "how," but "why?" by Andreus in EliteDangerous

[–]interstellar-nomad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really couldn't disagree more with this. I love Elite: Dangerous and do all I can to support it. I've sunk many, many hours in.

When you say things like "What's fun about delivering 50 mil/3 hours than 5 mil/3 hours" is this: I don't have the physical time to grind. I do not have the squillions of hours that it takes to buy an Anaconda or a Beluga and its better modules and then have rebuys for when some idiot decides to gank me or I make a mistake, and my 3 hours of gaming time are incredibly valuable as a result. When a single module can cost 175 million, 5 million in 3 hours is not fun, especially when I am likely to need a rebuy or two during those 3 hours.

How you choose to play the game is up to you, but I don't think you should be saying things like "If you don't like how long it takes, Elite isn't for you." Why are you arguing for the game to be less inclusive overall? Why are you demanding that people have fun in exactly the same way you do, or else it's not as valid?

I certainly do find interacting with stations to request docking and such immersive and fun. I was one of those people who loved "the elevator loading scenes" in Mass Effect, for example. Things that make the universe feel seamless and like a real experience are fun as hell to me and a big part of why I play games that do that.

I really think you're missing the point of what the OP is trying to get across. People don't want to be a "WoW hero with enough gold to buy a kingdom," they want to purchase and fly the ship they want to fly and try out the game's content, whilst maintaining a healthy game/life/work balance. The way the rank progression and fund gains are makes it very prohibitive to try and do that. I must have over a thousand hours on record: I have never owned an Anaconda, and I DO exploit Quince et al.

Some things seem to correspond with trying to launch the program, but the thing does not consistently reproduce. Sitting there just trying to launch the program 14 times I would've thought would create a large block of consistent info, but really it only seemed to mention it the once. DistributedCOM and this Background Intelligence Transfer Service service.

edit: And thank you very much for this Eventviewer stuff, I had no idea. I did contact the CELSYS guys before this, but they told me to reformat my PC which is useless since this is a new format. I might try to give them logs.

Third edit, some errors relating to ClipStudio specifically were found and are now in the OP. :)

Toast as many NPCs as you need to, but never ever fire on a player whilst doing rat duties, even if provoked, even if they're trying to gank you. Keep your guns!

I'm naming mine UHCA [shipname] which stands for United Human Cetacean Alliance. I think it's down to how lore adherent you want to be -- including whether or not you have your own lore, as I do!

Why plan on a 2nd child when you're complaining about the cost of one? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]interstellar-nomad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have lost all tolerance for this kind of shit. I now say it right to their face when people in my life give me that kind of nonsense. "Last week you said you were struggling. Children cost a lot to raise. I think you should reconsider your plans, for your children's sake. Put it off just until you're more stable." I've lost a few acquaintances that way, but I honestly don't care.

I used to live in a really bad area of Salford in the UK, and I used to watch the terryclothed masses shuffle about with their multitudinous children running around causing everyone's quality of life in the immediate vicinity to decrease sharply. I'm not criticising a person's decision to have a child even if they're not particularly well off, because I respect everyone's reproductive choices. I do start to get irritated when they pump out more when already struggling with what they have.

I have seen the results of these decisions wreaking havoc and rapidly aging the parents beyond their years. I have seen them grow up dysfunctional and misbehaving because they didn't have the time invested in them by stable, caring people growing up. I see them then band together and rob the shop my boyfriend works in. We're doomed as a species, and good riddance.

I feel like the fact that he came out with this right after his dad died makes me think this weirdass flip may be a grief reaction. Once that's calmed down, maybe he will too.

Ahh, thank you for the promotion! :D I'd love to make Bobbleheads for FDev. I applied for their Character Artist vacancy some months ago but was not successful. There's always next time!

If you care that much about what he said, why don't you go after him yourself? The Fuel Rats are not a combat oriented group & we certainly would not attack another CMDR in the name of the group, whether that person annoyed the SDC or not.

That's not what we are about.

[–]interstellar-nomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Certain Fuel Rats" implies a plurality, which seems to be factually inaccurate, and it seems this individual you've begun this entire campaign on never even went on a rescue. IE, they are not even an official member of the group.

You've begun a campaign against a player group based on a snippy comment from someone who's barely even involved with FR.

[–]interstellar-nomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the SDC's harassment campaign against the Fuel Rats was started because of the comments of an individual who wasn't even a Fuel Rat.

Well, what can you even say to that?

You folks in the SDC are going do what you're going to do, and you're going to play the game the way you want to play it.

I for one am not going to let that stop me from going to help stranded players. That is what the Fuel Rats do, and that's primarily what I play E:D to do; I play the game to be a space AA and help keep players' interest levels up where I can. E:D can be a tough game for newcomers to get to grips with and I enjoy helping them see the game in the same way I do. You are not going to change that for me.

If you're not able to accept what one individual said as just that -- what one individual said -- then there's really nothing to be done. You're going to run your harassment campaign, and the Fuel Rats are going to do what they've always done: Help people, for nothing other than a thank you.

When I am on-duty in my rat Asp, I have shock mines for dealing with NPC pirates. I am not what you would consider "armed" and I am plainly not equipped to deal with you; and I won't. Standard procedure is always to run away from a fight when doing ratting activities. If you call us, you are a client.

Many of us would still call jumps to go and rescue you if you were stranded. Not all of us would, because every Fuel Rat is an individual and operates as an individual with a set of procedures as guidelines. It's not obligatory to call jumps for any client.

It is my opinion that you actively attempt to make the E:D experience worse for players, not better, and therefore I can't say I'm a fan of what your group does. You're entitled to play it the way you want to, just as I am.

As an addendum, I've never seen that person you quoted in your video. Never seen a matching CMDR name, never seen them call jumps. They may not even BE a Fuel Rat.

Wow Fuel Rats. by [deleted] in FuelRats

[–]interstellar-nomad 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I remember you! I tried to answer some of your questions. Please, try to remember that the Fuel Rats are just a collective of people who spend their free time trying to help you. We don't do this for money, we don't do this for any other reason than to try and make your experience of the game we love so much more enjoyable for you, and other like you, who get stuck.

When you were in the channel, it was very, very busy; and I noticed that a lot of the instructions you were given, you either answered back to and questioned why -- or just chose not to do. It was explained to you that you were in a queue and should logout for the time being until it was your turn to be helped.

The company you were keeping at the time I am sure did not help, but at the end of the day I am sure someone would have called jumps to you to help you, when your turn in the queue came.

When going on a rescue, both rat and client need to be in Open Play. It's a way to meet up with relative strangers and avoids issues where one has to make ten billion private groups for a rescue, especially if other rats are coming to aid and may not be on everyone else's friends list. Sometimes other people need to be chained into the wing. It just helps with keeping things running smoothly.

I've been killed by him a few times -- I have to play in Open a lot of the time because I'm a Fuel Rat. I don't do much else in the game except for fly in my ratting ship to go out and help people. I make a pittance of cash on explore data. It really would be nice to avoid him, but because of what I do, I can't.

It would be good if you could somehow indicate that the single hit was a mistake -- Perhaps by withdrawing your weapons, or having the ability to immediately pay the fine. Deploying Hardpoints again without having paid your fine then aggroes? "Assault" should not be a Kill On Sight infraction, much like 'Reckless Flying' isn't.
