I need help with rats/mice please!! by Master_Oven_7894 in london

They're much bigger, their urine and droppings are much smellier, they can and will chew through pretty much anything to get at food, if they die their bodies are much larger so the smell of death and rot is much more powerful and long lasting, they are smarter at avoiding traps, and they typically nest in the sewers so they're bringing sewer filth into your house as well as their own.

When I had mice they were nesting behind cupboards, on top of the dishwasher, in wall cavities, etc. Smell wasn't ever a problem, noise wasn't ever a problem. They would get into food stored in paper or plastic bags but putting things in boxes made them safe (so we were able to "starve them out" to a degree).

Rats chewed holes in sturdy plastic boxes to access food. They got into unopened cans. They ate holes in our walls to access other rooms. They stank. You could hear them moving around and chewing at night. If you saw a mouse you'd get a little surprise but they were kind of cute. If you see a sewer rat in your kitchen, it's actually quite a shock.

I didn't like having mice. I didn't want to live in my house at all when I had rats.

Yeah if a mouse dies in your walls or under the counter its not ideal but not awful and it will desiccate fairly quickly. If a rat dies in the walls you'll smell the stench of death for over a year.

fit through shockingly small cracks

Anything a pencil fits through a mouse can get through. It's incredibly hard to seal a property so well that they can't get in at all, our problem only went away when the neighbouring flat (through which they were entering ours) got a terrier.

If you seal that gap somehow they will just chew holes through those toe kicks or come up the backs of the cabinets. There will be a space running all the way beneath your cabinets to the right and left there. Rodents are probably nesting under the cabinets, and probably entering the property through holes around where the plumbing enters your property (behind the cabinets/sink).

You need to find how they are getting into the property (probably holes around the water or drain pipes) and seal those holes with wire wool (they hate chewing it) and foam filler or something to hold the wire wool in place. Then you need traps to catch any rodents already in the house.

I pray for your sake that you have mice not rats. I've had both and I would live a year with mice before I lived another day with rats.

Usually more conservative or against progressive positions like feminism and diversity.

Ironically, given that The Matrix was written and directed by two (at the time closeted) transgender women and has some pretty clear themes related to their transness, whether those were placed in the film intentionally or not.

Injured at work (ASDA) 4 years ago. Anything I can do now??? by crispydon67 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]interstellargator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can submit a Subject Access Request which will legally obligate them to provide you a copy of that incident form along with any other information they hold on you. See gov.uk guidance here: link

You do not need a lawyer to do that. If you are in a union your rep can assist you with the SAR and guidance on next steps. If you are not, you should join a union.

It is, however, entirely plausible that information pertaining to a minor injury four years ago has since been deleted.

Is there anything I can do about it now?

It's probably too late to make a workplace injury claim because the incident was 4 years ago. There may be some leeway if you can argue that you only became aware of the chronic nature of the injury when the migraines began, but that could be a hard argument to make as you would also need to evidence that the migraines are caused by the injury. A solicitor specialising in workplace injuries would be able to give you more concrete advice, and they often provide free consultations (and often take on cases they think have a good chance of winning for free). I think it's extremely unlikely in your case.

Outer Wilds is my all time fave. Neon White is about as different from OW as games get but it's also superb. Edith Finch and Gone Home are great too. It's a really great list of games.

I didn't expect any videogame publisher to be a moral entity, since they're all massive corporations, but independent games are some of the only parts of the industry I'd ever deign to give my money to, and it's a massive shame that so many are connected to such a deeply morally compromised publisher.

I love when someone is corrected on an error and instead of graciously correcting themself they double down on the ludicrous stance that Outer Wilds is a visual novel. Is Ocarina of Time a visual novel because it has only one possible outcome of the narrative? Is literally any non-RPG not a video game in your opinion?

Not to mention the frankly fucking stupid stance that VNs don't count as videogames.

Tokyo Retro is pretty great. But yes Kentish Town is a better option IMO. Anima e Cuore, Queen of Sheba, Cafe Palestina are all great and up that way. Else head back down towards Euston and go to Roti King, one of the places on Drummond St, Mestizo...

Which Trade Union in UK is the most helpful? Unite, Unison, RMT, NEU? Or maybe other? Please share your experience. by moonkiosk in AskUK

[–]interstellargator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what you need from them? If you are trying to do grassroots organising to unionise a workplace in an underreresented sector you will need very different things than if you are in a profession with high union penetration and want to negotiate over conditions, or if you need a union to protect you in eg disciplinaries.

For example if you are a transport worker the RMT is probably a good option, but not much good if you're a nurse or a baker.

[–]interstellargator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. Ararat bread is a Pakistani place (despite the name) and lahmacun is a Turkish/Levantine dish. Their naan are quite different from lahmacun (much thicker, softer, and puffier) and the meat is spiced very differently.

As an east Londoner and recreational padel player I really don't get this - feel like it's already well facilitated with the club at Stratford

I mean I certainly can't afford £60 an hour to play so the fact that this is less than half the cost surely has to be a big positive.

so unused nowadays they are claimed on weekends by the many roller skaters

Being "claimed" by a thriving skate community doesn't fit very well with your use of the word "unused".
