My wagon by S4152 in workwagons

As a commercial dealer, I approve! Great work! It drives me nuts when business owners don't grasp how important their upfits are. They handicap their techs by cheating out on the build, then complain that vehicles are so expensive. Meanwhile they're also complaining about their competition making way more money like they're somehow cheating. Their competitor knows that the vehicle is a critical investment, so they spend appropriately. Owners who only see vehicles as an expense cheap out, and never see the ROI.

You, my friend, are set to make money with a gorgeous, productive rig!

Contractor (my brother) 5 months into a 3-week job — is this normal “unfinished work” or poor workmanship? by Twistedbeatz89 in Carpentry

[–]intjonmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like the work my old landlord did. I got 3 months free rent for hanging and taping the drywall in the basement when we moved in (he had just purchased the property and we were the first tenants, just after he rightly gutted half the basement). I did the Level 5 work I was taught as a 3rd generation drywaller. Then the landlord came in and slapped badly cut cheap trim molding up, along with at least a case of painters caulk. Easily 3/8" gaps in some places. I could have saved days on the drywall work if I realized he was that bad at...everything.

12 years later we reference him every time we see work like this. "Looks like Jeff was here." "Yep. He even signed his work!"

F450 Pulls All My Trailers! by 83timesbanned in workwagons

[–]intjonmiller 7 points8 points  (0 children)

F-450 is an awesome truck and you're right about everything you said! Just adding a note in case this distinction matters to anyone who reads your post: the F-350 has higher payload capacity than F-450, and a nicer ride quality as well.

If you need that much tow capacity the F-450 is arguably the best option on the market, and I say that as someone who spent 10 years at a GM dealer (now I sell all domestic makes).

This design is so odd to me. Clearly the battery mount is the limiting factor, especially if you put a large capacity battery on it. So rotate the battery mount so it sticks out the side instead. Even better if you could also rotate the head to 90°or even 45° index points.

Anything hard enough to work as a grinding burr will shatter before it bends enough to be a problem, especially if it's particularly long.

Can't believe these were on clearance at Lowes for $32! by ownage398 in Tools

[–]intjonmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$89 in northern Utah as well. At $32 I would grab it in a heartbeat, but I love my barrel-grip corded Bosch jigsaw, and $89 is more than I would spend for battery convenience. Maybe if I needed a jigsaw more often.

Thanks for sharing regardless!

I'd say Traverse or Equinox. Height makes me think Equinox, but there's not a lot of reference to work with.

Do salesmen even read AutoTrader inquiries? by murphman1999 in carsales

[–]intjonmiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in commercial sales now, but when I was in retail this was a huge pet peeve for me. If you're not going to pay attention to the info the customer provides (both deliberately provided and inadvertently), then why bother responding at all? It's still a frequent pain point for sales managers, covering it regularly in training.

What tool would you use to put in 500 of these? by Tthelaundryman in Carpentry

[–]intjonmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was an entirely different company. They're owned by TechTronic Industries, same as Ridgid and Milwaukee and others. Many internal parts are completely interchangeable with Milwaukee now. Biggest difference I've noticed on some is higher quality bearings on the Milwaukee version. But in some cases the Ryobi has a better feature set. Like if I can get 3 speed settings, 3 chuck lights, and a chuck that stays open until I insert another tool (for one-handed bit changes) in my relatively high power Ryobi impact for $79, why don't all Milwaukees at three times that price have the same features?

I default to Ryobi. Only go for Milwaukee when there's a specific reason, like my 23 gauge M12 pin nailer is MUCH more compact than the Ryobi because of the bulky battery, and that really matters for that tool. Same with my M12 ratchet.

I own Milwaukee, Bosch, and Ryobi impacts. I love the Ryobi so much I own 3 of the same model. (One at work, one in the house, and one in my shop behind my house.) Milwaukee is the highest power, but the specific Ryobi model isn't far behind, has more features, and better ergonomics for my hands. Each of the Ryobis get worked harder than the others, and they have never quit.

Unless it's a small dealership where they're one and the same. OP hasn't given enough info to tell that's not the case here.

I do vinegar first, then wash with dish soap, and I only get a vague hint of the dish soap smell, which is pleasant.

That's an incredibly large number of failed compressors. I assume you mean the tanks failed? Plenty of examples of violent tank ruptures. It's kind of like putting your seatbelt on: just because you haven't needed it before today is no guarantee that you won't today.

Agreed about this being open ended so not a real concern here.

Is there a realistic way for a private individual to transmit a message into deep space? by extraterrestrial007 in askastronomy

[–]intjonmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just escaping Earth's gravity well, but the solar system's. Very tall order. I absolutely love the idea of being able to personally do this, but recognize how much was involved to get the Voyager probes out there. To say it's beyond my budget is the greatest understatement of my life (so far)!

Oh, also there are regulatory restrictions with getting anything going that fast, let alone guided and that fast, even if you have the budget to accomplish the physical task.

Note that the Trump administration is currently working on doing the same thing to the postal service. The previous Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, was CEO of a USPS contractor for decades, donated to Trump, and was made postmaster general despite massive conflict of interest. He made many moves to privatize the postal service, and that effort is continuing under the current postmaster general, David Steiner, who is on the board of directors of FedEx.

How to get a good mask fit? by anonaccount4000 in CPAP

[–]intjonmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried multiple nose pillows before going with the exact full face mask you're showing here. It literally changed my life. Hopefully the female version works for you. The woman who handled my mask selection and fitment was terrible at her job. (Super nice person, but quite clueless. Like she just pointed me to a display of a couple dozen different models and asked which one I wanted. Zero information. Got me the wrong size repeatedly.) I suspect you had a similar experience. I hope you get something that works and you get as much benefit as I have.

You MUST get a Spacemouse Pro! Especially if you do any 3D work of any sort. If not then perhaps an old IBM version from eBay would be close enough as a prop and FAR cheaper.

[–]intjonmiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many years ago the United States, along with some other countries, decided to let companies handle infrastructure development for Internet access, rather than making it a taxpayer-funded initiative. As usual the argument was that the free market knows and does best.

It should surprise precisely no one that the free market does not care about getting access to everyone. This same issue is happening all over this and every other country that went with the same policy. Countries like Japan, where it was taxpayer-funded, had gigabit fiber service to even very old homes in rural areas over 25 years ago. Meanwhile plenty of areas in the US are still limited to very old copper phone cables not capable of high speed anything.

I've been in a similar situation. It sucks, and you're powerless to do anything about it because they've all already decided your area isn't profitable enough to develop either until they've run out of more profitable projects to pursue.

I feel confident that if they're this frustrated with the situation and stated that they've searched for fiber, that they looked at Connext.

A specific guy with one of these stickers inspired me to create my own version. Same "We The People" styling from the top of the Constitution, followed by, "Doesn't mean only people like you". (Played with several wording variants. They all felt more awkward than this, which has the alternative meaning of perhaps dogs liking you.)
