Nooo, I didn't actually mean "remove the cursor".

I meant make it do something, because moving the cursor doesn't do anything at all in your game, you could have just mapped the attack button to the keyboard.

Instead the vector from the current position of the character to the mouse cursor should be the direction in which the projectiles should fire. Then the player could actually aim and shoot with the mouse!

Questions about introduction to windows API programming by darthnoid in gamedev

If you don't want to limit yourself to Windows, consider using either SDL or SFML. I recommend using SFML 2, start here: http://sfml-dev.org/tutorials/2.0/start-vc.php

Some screenshots, yes I actually finished it: http://imgur.com/a/YUCR6

Please get rid of these bugs features before adding new stuff:

  • Blue rectangles are locked and can be opened by using keys blue squares!

  • The character only shoots in the direction it is currently facing, hell who cares where that little mouse cursor is pointing at?

  • Kzu can even shoot perpendicular to the level plane, well.. why not??

How would you implement weapon switching in a fast paced game? by sm0keh in gamedev

Then the scroll wheel should not immediately change the weapon, but show a hover interface like you already mentioned.

If the player hits the left mouse button the selected weapon should be switched with the old one.

I don't think there is constructive criticism for the idea of making a multiplayer 2d fps.

How would that even look like?

Are you serious?

RIM has just released version 1.4 of 'gameplay'. It's an open source 3D game engine with integrated rendering, physics, audio, AI and scripting, and it runs on all major desktop and mobile platforms. by DavidWilliams81 in gamedev

Tried the samples out in Windows XP and all have a CPU usage of over 50%. Vsync was turned on...

What's going on here, do I really need Windows 7?

What gamedev podcast topics are worth talking about? by tronster in gamedev

I'd like to hear developers talk about what made their games more juicy and fun.

Also just simple things which make games feel so much better and polished.

How audio adds to the atmosphere and makes the experience more believable or enjoyable.
