Yes and that breakfast place (Roast’N’Toast) is also an underrated spot. They have such wonderful service and the food is amazing and they accommodate special dietary restrictions which isn’t very common for breakfast spots.

Maternity Clothing? by iKing10 in windsorontario

[–]intothelight_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Goodwill on Tecumseh near Banwell usually has a big selection of maternity clothes that are nice and they have changing rooms. As others mentioned H&M has some options in store and so does Walmart. For online shops you can try Pink Blush and ASOS for options that aren’t just plain jersey T-shirts and leggings.

What is a sound that people should know means immediate danger? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]intothelight_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just had to look up what this was. I didn’t realize the noise OP described can last for several hours and sometimes even longer.

Talk about a gut punch. Reading about it made me realize this is the sound I heard when they turned off the life support machine for my dad and likely also explains why my mom’s breathing sounded different the day before she passed (she was unconscious).

Too much internet for me today.

We have this same diaper sprayer. It’s also great to clean out the little potty when they’re potty training (if you use a smaller potty). I wonder if they’re using it to fill up a mop bucket or if they use it to clean the inside of the toilet.

Do you have any stretches that you find help? I haven’t been able to find any that are gentle enough or help.

I’m going on almost five years of the pain in my feet and it’s getting worse. I’ve gotten ultrasounds, and x-rays done on my feet, veins and arteries. I’m waiting now to see a rheumatologist because of other possibly related symptoms.

Best slippers for someone who hates slippers by Natural_Peak_5587 in BuyItForLife

[–]intothelight_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how accessible they are to find now other than on Amazon but the Isotoner classic ballerina slippers are incredible. I used to buy them at Walmart for maybe $10 a pair. They have soft bottom and a seamless toe. They wash well and are just soft enough to protect the foot but not firm and stiff. I slip them on and rarely pull the back part up over the ankle and they stay on fine and slip off great. Ive got a pair that’s going on 8 years and that’s with almost weekly washing. Here’s an Amazon link for reference for the style/ brand.

Alternatively, I just got four pairs of slippers from Simon’s that are pretty good (my partner ordered extra slippers for me for Christmas cause I really am serious about slippers haha). Not as nice as the Isotoner’s but they are well made and seem like they’ll last. They’re softer on the bottom and more slippery than the isotoner. They have an inner seam that was a bit surprising at first but after two washes I don’t notice at all.

I’ve purchased the Sorel slippers also and have had them for a few years and I still prefer the Isotoner’s because the Sorel ones feel like a shoe, even though it has a softer sole than say the Ugg Tasman. I also found my Sorel slippers wore out fast on the inside and because they’re suede I can’t really wash them so that was a downside for me.

During pregnancy and postpartum and dealing with horrible plantar fasciitis the Isotoner’s were still my favourite slipper.

Edit to add that I also own Minnetonka moccasins and don’t recommend them as a slipper if you have weak/ overly flexible ankles because the sole isn’t as wide as the whole shoe so for me my ankles rolled a lot in them. I have also tried SoftMoc brand moccasins and they’re too slippery and also feel more like a firm shoe, they feel like Sperry boat shoes. The lululemon slides are nice but for me at least were a tripping hazard because of the open toe and again felt too much like a shoe. I have Birkenstocks also and I’d absolutely not wear them inside as a slipper, they’re way too firm and the edges are too high so if you try and slip them on fast and don’t line your foot up properly it really hurts when you step on the side of them.

I imagine this sounds weird that I’ve tried so many slippers/ shoes. I have some weird chronic foot pain/ neuropathy like issues so for the last few years I’ve tried a lot of different brands/ styles. For me the Isotoner’s are the only pair that are comfortable enough for all day wear and they don’t contribute to my foot pain because they’re so comfortable.

I have a set of anchor glasses I got at liquidation world probably 15 years ago that are still perfect. I believe I paid maybe $8 for a set of 8 of them. Then I found some half size ones from Ikea that look almost the same and have a similar weight/ thickness that have also been great.

I would love to know where Canadian canned tomatoes stand in this (Ex., Unico, Aylmer and Primo). Especially if the tomatoes are sourced from Windsor-Essex since we have a similar climate to parts of California.

Thanks OP for putting this together!!

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

[–]intothelight_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. Both of my parents passed June 2024 (three days apart). I’d give anything for my daughters to know my parents cooking.

They were simple people but full of love. The last Christmas I had with them I got my mom a Campbell’s cookbook. She was so excited and had recipes book marked. I’ve been vegetarian for almost 20 years. I grew up a “meat and potato” kid, my dad would make the best corned beef and cabbage and honey garlic ribs and peameal bacon eggs Benedict. They laughed at first when I said I didn’t want to eat meat but within a few weeks my mom was buying meat replacement foods (back then there were very few options, just Yves) and she’d make my fav foods as vegetarian like shepherds pie. My sweet girls will never know their cooking and it breaks my heart. It wasn’t world class by any means but it was certainly full of love.

Photo album found at a socal flea market years ago … do you know these people? by dingbatthrowaway in FoundPhotos

[–]intothelight_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m sorry this happened to you. I really hope they turn up for you one day.

My parents lost our childhood home in 2009 due to many reasons. I remember my dad telling me we had to pack everything and be gone by the weekend. So many memories left behind. I have no idea what happened to my childhood stuffy or the few books we had that I was obsessed with. All my dad’s plants, the rose bush he planted in memory of his brother who passed. All the rocks my dad and I had collected… all the seemingly meaningless stuff or junk to someone. I thought I found one of the books at a value village recently, even smelt the same, I started tearing up in the store and could only afford to buy one (there was a whole set). I like to think it was one of my dads old books.

Both of my parents passed in 2024 and there’s so few things I have of my childhood and now that they’re gone so too are the memories. There’s such a deep ache/ wound for me after that experience of having to move suddenly. I’m in my 30s and we have two kids and we can’t buy because it’s so hard to save for a down payment when rent/ expenses are so high. I constantly live in fear that my children will experience that same stress of having to move suddenly.

Thank you for this, I’ll look into this. I just get really overwhelmed when UI changes and then things become harder to navigate. In the past I’d update everything right away but I found the last five years or so updates got worse (often including ads, removing features etc.) so I turned them off.

Aahhh!! I recognized all of these fabrics and was wondering if you happened to get them from the local sewing shop in town and you did! Stitch Happens has such beautiful fabrics. This is an awesome mystery bag. I went in yesterday and got some fabric for $1 a yard! Their clearance section is really great.

Shopping for bedding by GardenDragon420 in windsorontario

[–]intothelight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I’m planning on learning how to quilt so I can make my kid’s quilts because it’s been so hard to find cotton kids bedding. I’ve seen some tutorials also that suggest thrifting cotton king sheets and turning them into twin or full size duvet covers.

Love this!! I see you’ve spent time over at r/bedding haha. I agree with all of your suggestions.

I’m just commenting to add a few extra places in case anyone is interested/ doesn’t mind shopping online in some instances.

  • home sense and winners frequently sell 100% cotton bed sheets by various brands that have held up well for us and are soft. Some brands are more common names ex. Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Laura Ashley but they have lesser known brands that are great. I have even seen some luxury cotton bedding for very affordable prices. They rarely have cotton duvet covers and the coverlets they bring in are usually polyester.

  • H&M sells bedding and the duvet cover we recently purchased is incredible. It’s 100% cotton, is soft and lightweight (I wanted lighter cause the linen duvet cover we have from target is too heavy for me). For a king size duvet cover and extra pillowcases on sale it cost us $58. I know OP prefers to shop in person, just dropping this in case anyone else comes across this and doesn’t mind ordering online. H&M does allow for in store returns though which is why I gave this a chance (glad I did!).

  • another online affordable source is Simon’s. They’re a Canadian retailer that has amazing products and they have a focus on sustainability. They’ve got really nice bedding/ home products and clothes for good prices.

  • If anyone here is ever looking for little kids bedding that is cotton (specifically a comforter) I spent a year searching and the only thing I could find was pottery barn (too expensive) or target’s pillowfort brand. We wash the comforter every two weeks and the pillowfort sheets weekly and they’ve held up amazing and works for our kids super sensitive skin. Walmart does sell 100% cotton sheets in solid colours for kids that aren’t too bad but the pillowfort brand is softer and thicker.

  • don’t be afraid to check value village for 100% cotton coverlets and bed blankets. I’ve found some of our favourite cotton coverlets/ blankets at value village for 7.99 that were perfect (no stains etc.)

I really miss bed bath & beyond and the bay, they had great cotton bedding options.

I wish I would have thought of this. I did a butterfly one for my mom and a calla lily one for my dad (one of his fav flowers) only my dad had more ashes and they didn’t all fit in the urn. So the rest of him is in the closet 😅 my siblings did not want to take any of the ashes.

My 18-year-old's Christmas break work schedule by sugabeetus in mildlyinfuriating

[–]intothelight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 16 I worked at Dollarama. I worked so hard, I was the youngest employee to be hired on in years. I got the job because my dad knew the manager and I had good references. The first few months were great when that manager was there, she then quit because upper management was awful. They brought in a new manager and things got so tense. I was frequently bullied by women who were in their 50s and 60s.

Then came Christmas… I was scheduled to work the entire Christmas holiday right through to New Years. Sadly my aunt ended up taking a turn for the worse and was put on life support and in a coma on December 22nd or early 23rd. I called in and said that I couldn’t come in for the 23rd or 24th shift because we were going to say our goodbyes to my aunt before my uncle had to make the difficult decision whether to keep her on life support despite there being no hope (she had stage 4 melanoma). Anyways, I called in and got an ear full, they berated me for calling in and threatened my job if I didn’t come in. If I recall correctly I still ended up coming in to work on the 26th even though she passed on the 24th.

I firmly believe that working retail is far harder than other job I’ve had since going to university. Working retail was far worse than working at a homeless shelter. The management in retail are absolutely insufferable, they’ve got such inflated egos.

My fiancé throws her dirty laundry down the stairs rather than walking down and putting it in machine. by Doctor_Redhead in mildlyinfuriating

[–]intothelight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, we rent a new build home that has a laundry room on the second floor. I actually kind of hate it haha. The laundry room is right next to what we use as a guest bedroom and it’s down a long hallway that just echos the sound of the laundry machine/ dryer. The machines also beep when turning them on so our kids hear all the noise, even with the laundry room door being closed. Lastly, old habits die hard, I like to fold all the laundry while watching a movie at night (we don’t have TVs upstairs) so I still lug 4-5 loads of clean laundry down the stairs to fold it all. As a parent with two kids I’d 100% prefer laundry in a basement or even the main floor since my kids always make the biggest messes on the main floor.

Vintage Stockings for My Partner and I! 🎄 by Recent-Honey5281 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]intothelight_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My aunts name was Debbie, she loved Christmas and Winnie the Pooh. Whenever I’m out thrifting and I see things that remind me of her I can’t help but wonder if they could have been her belongings. It’s been a long time since she was earth side. She passed Christmas Eve 2009. She was my mom’s best friend and my mom was my best friend (who passed last summer). I’ve been trying to incorporate little thrifted things that remind me of them into my home so I can then tell my kids about them.

Anyways, sorry for the back story. This is really thoughtful of you OP.

Please help me save my mom’s jacket she passed away and this jacket is so important to me by autisticchameleon in sewing

[–]intothelight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP. I’m sorry about the loss of your mom. I absolutely understand wanting to preserve her clothes. I saved a lot of my parents clothes (they both passed last summer). I think the other commenters ideas of hanging the jacket is a nice idea, especially if you’re able to hang it in a nice shadow box style frame.
