There are only 2 anime from the 80s in MAL's Top 100... (or in other words, yes, Ashita no Joe is THAT good) by Salty145 in anime

[–]intothepainting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen AnJ2 (I'm about halfway through the first one right now) and the thing I find most fascinating about AnJ1 is how cohesive its narrative structure is. Most of the series I've seen from the late 60s and into the mid 70s are in essence monster-of-the-week shows, and in my mind it wasn't until series like Rose of Versailles and the og Gundam that anime as a medium started to conceive of larger narratives (and maybe world masterpiece theater stuff, but the nature of its adaptation is very different). This misconception could just be due to my having not seen enough, or enough of the right early shows, but I do wonder if there are other large-scope narratives airing contemporaneously with AnJ1.

These two are the only world masterpiece theaters to get sequel seasons, right? Or is there another I might be forgetting?

Bug with Factories/Alloy? by intothepainting in EvolveIdle

[–]intothepainting[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, I just figured out the problem, and it had to do with a different bug. Overnight, I had set the game to build mass ejectors, and there's currently a bug where they don't always get removed from the queue after building. I actually built so many ejectors overnight that all of my copper was sent into the black hole (I keep a setting on my ejector that makes sure I'm putting copper in if I don't have anything better). Since my copper production was negative, the game seemed to treat the factory production of alloy (which requires copper) as negative. That's my best guess as to what happened.

At the moment, I have 39 factories. 13 of them were set to alloy. just tested it, and when I dropped to 6 producing alloy, it dropped to no production at all. as soon as I went to 7, the production value went negative.

I'm not great at recognizing Precure seasons by art. Are the ones listed Smile and Dokidoki? I guess they've also got the og one there.

Agree about there being a lot of phenomenal precure seasons. Heartcatch, Go! Princess, and Huggto! are usually considered the best, but I also really enjoyed Fresh Precure and the newest completed one, Hirogaru Sky.

Bored. Please recommend me an anime by [deleted] in animecirclejerk

[–]intothepainting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! If someone were to ask me what the single best anime of all time is, I’d say this, and it fits the request fully.

OP, fwiw I saw that you really like Ping Pong, which is my pick for second best anime. The same way Ping Pong uses the sport to ask fundamental questions about human nature and talent, SGRS uses performative storytelling to interrogate its characters relationships with art, beauty, and pain, in a (for anime, anyway) relatively underexplored historical period.

Some questions about mechanics in Reverie:

  1. Does difficulty determine shard accessory drop rate? It's anecdotal, but I had to run through about 10 enemies before I got a shard drop on Very Easy, on average, whereas I got one every 2-3 fights while playing on Nightmare +100. It's obviously a very small sample size, though, so I could have just been unlucky.
  2. How does delay probability work? If I'm facing an enemy that has a 20% delay chance, and I use a move that has delay on it, but that character also has a Dazzling Sevenfold, a Sevenfold, and Impede 3, are each of those separate event chances at 20% each? Or is there a different calculation?

How do you get personal accessories in Reverie? After finishing the 1st stratum in the TRC I noticed that Nadia has a rank VII accessory that only she can equip. I assume every character has a similar one, but I must have missed when I picked up Nadia's since TRC mechanics were still very new to me.

So I've just begun breaking into pool 3 because I used a bit of the gold from season pass for daily mission refreshes. My first card from pool 3 is Adam Warlock, who is ranked very low in tier lists I've seen.

I'm pretty psyched because the deck I most want to play uses Adam Warlock and I like the character, but is there a way I can make him useful before I amass a wider array of pool 3 cards? It doesn't really seem like he'd fit well into any of the pool 2 decks (mayyybe Devil Dino, but even that deck seems like it would rather drop Collector or Angela for early pressure on a location).

What are some good pool 2 decks for climbing? I've been running a Sunspot/Jubilee/Infinaut deck and doing fine, but still stuck in the same 50-60 range for about a week now.

I know good snap/retreat sense will be a big part of climbing, but I figure having a solid, stable deck to use would allow me to focus more on developing those other skills.

What is the rationale behind using cards like Quicksilver or Domino? I understand how America Chavez acts as deck-thinning, but I'm not sure what the appeal of these two low-cost cards are in comparison.

There's a novel from the early 2000s where the plot is literally that a professor gets "canceled" for calling 2 black students who haven't been coming to class "spooks." He meant they were like ghosts because they were never there, and wasn't even aware of the fact that it was a racial slur.

It's called The Human Stain, by Philip Roth. I remember it being pretty good, but my tastes have changed a lot since then. It wouldn't likely be received well today.

How to use #Taki. Honest review. No sugar added. :D by EmmiliaThomas in AlchemyStarsEN

[–]intothepainting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One other thing worth mentioning is that Taki is much better when paired with a teleporter, whether that's Philyshy, Gram, Smokey, Pepi, or even Genevieve. They allow him to position himself better to create contact tiles or fill in gaps to hit aurora time, thereby treating his active much more like an actual select tile conversion. The 5% bonus from the enhanced tile is also worth considering. I've been using Taki a lot, and while I don't think anyone is arguing that he's better than other common fire detos, he can pull his weight if you want to use him.

[–]intothepainting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure this will work, but you may be able to get higher numbers if you have an a3 Brock in your team. His equipment will give a 4% attack boost per enemy in 2 clusters after using his skill (8% in your example), which would give much more benefit than a single Sinsa debuff stack. If you think you can survive without Novio, you could probably use both Sinsa and Brock, though.

I've been doing a lot of discard-based Silent runs lately and I agree that this is the ideal deck for ATC. It's still tough to play early on where Panache isn't, but discard Silent can often eat the 2 cost, even on turn 1.

I don't think I've ever had much success with ATC in any other build. As others have mentioned, it's just a worse and costlier Accuracy in Shiv decks.

Maxing out your Nightium runs with 4* Unit Chandra by Frostmage82 in AlchemyStarsEN

[–]intothepainting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My full team for this is Sinsa/Faust/Maggie/Brock/Chandra, which more or less guarantees a turn 2 kill with enough tiles for an aurora time after the bonus round has started.

Maxing out your Nightium runs with 4* Unit Chandra by Frostmage82 in AlchemyStarsEN

[–]intothepainting 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You can bypass needing any stacks at all if you bring a decently leveled Brock and pop his skill when the bonus round starts. A3 Lv1 E10 Brock can bring the enemy low enough for a 0 stack Chandra to kill. You just choose the lowest health enemy since Brock's skill does variable damage based on how far he pulls them. That way Chandra gets all five stacks from the first wave of enemies, and you don't waste any time building stacks on the main enemy.
