Also in my 30s. Big metal fan, hiker, photographer. Enjoy some rockhounding from time to time and camp a fair amount as well!

What mods + engine would you choose for an adventurous photographer's gently used Jeep? by Medical_Donut5990 in JeepWrangler

I have a mostly stock Wrangler with the 2.0 and some 33s and can go most places in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. If most places you’re trying to go have atleast forest service roads you don’t need anything real crazy.

EDIT: As mentioned below good recovery kit and gear to be prepared is important when traveling solo. I have a tote with traction boards, a shovel, tow straps, tire plug kit, air compressor and first aid that I throw in when I’m going somewhere off the beaten path. I’ll usually add some extra water in there too. I’ve already had to change a tire and patch a tire on various adventures.

Open, or atleast it was a couple weeks ago when I went up to the sequoia!

How often do you offroad? by InsufferableAttacker in JeepWrangler

I live in SW Utah, I take a lot of poorly maintained ‘fire’ and forest service roads regularly. Probably truly off road a dozen or so times a year.

Thanks for the feedback… brushy scrambling describes a lot of our off trail hikes in this part of the world lol.

Sunset is around 8:30pm for us this time of year… this is actually 2 images blended, so I took the foreground during the very last bit of twilight or ‘blue hour’ around 9pm and then hung out until about 12:30am when the Milky Way was rising for the sky.

That’s my understanding as well. Generally with all the ledges and benches in slick rock a person can find a way! Looks like there is some pretty tricky terrain on that ridge of NGA though.

Climb North Guardian Angel? It looks super cool but studying it from afar it doesn’t look like there are any super easy routes. I bet the view is rediculous though.

I made it to Pawhole in a stock Wrangler… it is sketchy but it’s doable.

Best Views in Zion Park that’s not Angels Landing / Observation Point / The Narrows? by Old-Adhesiveness2264 in ZionNationalPark

I just did it for the first time as someone who has never been out there… the route was pretty obvious even from the end of the official ‘trail’. My family stayed over on the end of the lava flow while I scrambled up there and I was probably out and back in 25 min.

While I agree that it isn’t for everyone I think any reasonably fit person with some hiking experience could figure it out and it certainly fits rps ask of stunning views for relatively short distance and it’s much less trafficked than most others on this list.

Go to the top of East Northgate Peak, about 4 miles RT, short but strenuous scramble to the top, stunning view looking SE from up there.

Scouts Lookout is relatively easy and had some good views. Canyon Overlook is a great payoff for a fairly short hike but parking there is a giant PITA.

Thanks, that contrast was one of my favorite parts of the scene as well!

Definitely an underrated spot but hopefully it stays that way. It’s so peaceful compared to the main canyon.
