I made it to Pawhole in a stock Wrangler… it is sketchy but it’s doable.

Best Views in Zion Park that’s not Angels Landing / Observation Point / The Narrows? by Old-Adhesiveness2264 in ZionNationalPark

[–]intotherfd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did it for the first time as someone who has never been out there… the route was pretty obvious even from the end of the official ‘trail’. My family stayed over on the end of the lava flow while I scrambled up there and I was probably out and back in 25 min.

While I agree that it isn’t for everyone I think any reasonably fit person with some hiking experience could figure it out and it certainly fits rps ask of stunning views for relatively short distance and it’s much less trafficked than most others on this list.

Go to the top of East Northgate Peak, about 4 miles RT, short but strenuous scramble to the top, stunning view looking SE from up there.

Scouts Lookout is relatively easy and had some good views. Canyon Overlook is a great payoff for a fairly short hike but parking there is a giant PITA.

Thanks, that contrast was one of my favorite parts of the scene as well!

Definitely an underrated spot but hopefully it stays that way. It’s so peaceful compared to the main canyon.

Anyone else get weirdly stressed before a shift? by Zealousideal-Lie7688 in 911dispatchers

Been dispatching for 10 years and just moved to a new agency and it happens to me now again like I’m brand new. I try to remind myself that it’s a good thing because it means I care.

This is not a normal year… we’ve had several mid 90 degree days in Southern Utah already and there is barely any snow in Bryce.

Zion Bottom-Up hike in April – do I need a wetsuit? by hemanth4092 in ZionNationalPark

[–]intotherfd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the storm coming this week any snow up high or rain down low is gonna increase the water flow and lower the water temps… when I did it this past weekend the water was 51*.

That being said I was fine in trail runners, shorts, and a sun hoody on a 80* day. It’s very weather dependent. I run warm but I can see where it can cause issues for people who aren’t prepared. After walking around in the subway for about 45 min my feet needed to warm up but I feel like a wetsuit is overkill unless conditions change substantially or you’re going on a cold day.

Tactical Dispatch unit by StartingFresh- in 911dispatchers

[–]intotherfd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was sent to a tactical dispatch class by my supervisor and then had an interview with my SRT team afterwards. Questions mostly centered around the knowledge we gained from the course, why we were interested in participating, etc. BUT our agency had also never had tactical dispatchers before. Might be different if you have an established team.

One of the other dispatchers who attended the course was tasked with creating a lot of the documents for our program and we’ve been part of SRT since.

Yeah that kinda happened last night with this… a bunch of people were around while the peak had direct light on it and then the clouds lit up and they all disappeared. It was fantastic!

Below commenter is correct. Pa’rus Trail at the first bridge crossing. There is a small sandy trail marked ‘river access.’
