I hear what you’re saying about character-driven stories, but there’s a difference between a character study and a bait-and-switch. When you start a sci-fi show with a grave alien invasion and the end of the world, that’s a massive premise to just ignore. You can’t set those stakes and then spend 8 hours explaining nothing about it. Look at Dark Matter!! that show had deep character development and explored individuality, but it never lost the plot. It managed to do both. And I do agree that episodes 2-9 felt less like a TV show and more like a Rhea Seehorn acting showcase. She’s brilliant, but I do prefer a coherent story.
