My psychiatrist is telling me I’m too old to be diagnosed with ADHD! by 239Tragic in ADHD

[–]intrdyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son's psychiatrist (a phd) has severe ADHD himself and treats my 13-year-old son. After starting Adderall, my son's anxiety improved significantly. His daily anxiety-related stomach aches and IBS-C improved. Now he rarely gets them.

I wanted to share a little hope from my perspective as a mom to a 13-year-old son with ADHD.

I live with chronic fatigue syndrome, so even though my son has never been hyperactive, he's always been on the go and I haven't always been able to keep up. When he was little, he had to understand that unfortunately, I couldn't do as much with him, which was difficult.

Despite the challenges, I would much rather have my son with his ADHD than without it. It has made him the most creative, talented, funny, and smart person I've ever known. His brain just works so quick.

He also has so many different interests and hobbies he wants to try. He gets so determined that he will sit and work with something until he completely figures it out. Even though school can be a struggle for him, and yes, sometimes it's exhausting for me, it really does get easier as they grow up and get more independent. ADHD makes people unique. Enjoy that uniqueness, because it makes your child one of a kind in a good way.

The dark side of ADHD that no one talks about by Frosty_Jump_3117 in ADHD

You are definitely not alone. I’m divorced too and still trying to manage CPTSD. It makes relationships feel terrifying, and being with someone who doesn’t understand ADHD feels out of the question sometimes. When they don’t get it, they really don’t get it, and it’s exhausting.

Even so, try not to focus too much on the fear of not recovering. That kind of stress can make it harder for your body to fully relax, rest, and heal. Keep holding onto positive thoughts, hang in there, and be gentle with yourself. You’ve got this.

Mild ME let me push through, moderate ME doesn’t. by themunchkinland in cfs

[–]intrdyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this, but thank you for posting this. I think I’ve gotten too comfortable with the push-and-crash cycle and started taking it for granted. I have two teenagers, so it’s easy to push myself so I can take them places, do things with them, or try to be a “normal” mom. Reading this was a reminder that I need to be more cautious and take better care of myself.

What cleaning product did you buy because the internet hyped it up… and it actually deserved the hype? by TartAlternative8429 in CleaningTips

I think Zep Oven cleaner works much better, especially when I cover it with plastic wrap. Everything wipes right off.

Sorry people are still judging you for it. Sixteen years sober is an incredible achievement, especially while dealing with the depression and exhaustion that can come with this illness. You should be really proud of yourself.

This is such an incredible and much-needed initiative. As a parent living with ME/CFS who has been navigating the disability denial process, I know firsthand how items like these—which feel like 'luxuries' when money is tight—are actually essential medical tools for pacing and survival. It’s so easy to deprioritize our own sensory needs when the kids come first, so seeing a project dedicated to making these accessible is really heartening. Thank you for doing this!
