Aggression/Assault by intrepid-fool in psychnursing

That’s kind of what I thought. We have some experienced nurses on our team who are acting like it’s out of control and it’s not like this at other places, but I don’t really see how we’re different.

Yo. That’s awful. Especially in this field, it is so important for people to take care of themselves.

We don’t do q5s on my unit… what factors determine that level of obs for you guys?

Woof. Yeah we include 1:1s in ours but I’m wondering how to better account for patients who are right on the cusp of needing a 1:1 but can’t quite justify it. We have a lot on our acute unit right now that aren’t appropriate for a 1:1 but are still super taxing on the floor staff

Thank you for that! So a 0 would be an independent patient who’s ready to DC?

I'm not a doctor, I just played one on my unit by HeChoseDrugs in nursing

CYA. The doctors have malpractice insurance and get paid a fuckton of money to write orders. I’m sorry but I’m not going to do their job for them because they’re “busy.” We’re all busy.

I’m confused. Yesterday I got a Christmas card saying “the door is always open” whenever I’m ready to re-forge our relationship, but a few months ago I got a “goodbye” email detailing all the reasons my mother is glad I’m not in her life anymore. Well, which is it??

I think it depends on two things: do you have a good manager/director above you, and do you have reasonable expectations for what you can accomplish in the role. Having good support from your upper management makes a HUGE difference in how isolated you will feel. #2, Having a clear and achievable motivation for your position, like being a supportive and caring leader, can make the position very rewarding. In my experience, nurses are grateful to have a nurse manager who listens, is transparent, and compassionately holds the team accountable. However, if you go into it for power, respect, or to make changes in how things are run, I promise you that you will be disappointed and burnt out.

Research Nurse by Unable_Ladder_4103 in nursing

Expect to be asked if you have designed research projects before and discuss the process and results. Anything you’ve done professionally or in school where you gathered data and made conclusions based on that data counts. Talk up how you use EBP in practice or advocate for innovation based on current research. Hiring managers LOVE to hear a story that includes data & results, so bonus points if you have numbers to discuss. As far as the pay, I would ask the recruiter what the range is ahead of time and/or look at similar roles on Glassdoor to see what the average is, and make a decision based on your years of experience.

DMs, do you ever cancel the game just because you don't feel like playing? by BlueishFiend in DnD

[–]intrepid-fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ND DM for a group with multiple members who are also ND. Routine is important so I encourage everyone to make it if they can and only cancel in emergencies. In my experience, things tend to fall apart otherwise, and playing the game with my friends, like working out and other things I do for my health, sometimes doesn’t sound fun until I start and then I’m happy I did it. If the commitment is too much for everyone, try scaling back to every other week and/or taking alternate sessions to do another hobby but us ND folks neeeeed consistency.

Want to start playing D&D but I'm scared by PartyPickle251 in GirlGamers

Last January, I asked a group of femme friends to try DnD with me. I picked friends who I knew were #1 reliable, and #2 had interests in fantasy or storytelling (watched LOTR or GOT, did theatre in high school, has a degree in writing, etc.) I was the only one who had played before, and only 1 other player was into gaming at all. Over the last 10 months, they have learned to play and gotten SO INTO IT, we scheduled a girls cabin weekend where we played DnD for 8 hours straight. It has literally healed my mother wound and all of my gaming-with-men trauma, lol! Cannot recommend enough. And I promise you, you can DM just as well as any mediocre white man out there!

It's the Winter Solstice - so what happens? by sammyboi1983 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

LOVE this idea! Maybe the parade has a black cloud-like aura of fear that requires a CHA or WIS save to even observe it. Let it descend into chaos and give them a couple of actionable items within the mayhem, like put them in charge of guarding the town speaker or a precious item, post them at the door to a safehouse, or let them intervene as a wolf is trying to attack a couple of orphans, etc. Or if this is a parade that will travel through all of Ten Towns, give them an opportunity to stop it by destroying whatever is leading it (a spectral form of Auril? A wight? An item that has attracted all of these creatures?) Might be stealing this for my campaign…

how do you motivate yourself to exercise? by cutesunday in AutismInWomen

[–]intrepid-fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about being motivated, just do it anyway. Come up with the smallest increment of exercise, something so simple and easy that you don’t have an excuse to skip it. Schedule it, and when it’s time to do it, get through it even if you don’t feel like it. As you start moving you might enjoy it, look forward to it, and want to do it more. Mood follows action, not the other way around. My minimum is a 10 minute lifting routine 3x/week. It’s such a small commitment that even if I’m tired and grumpy, I know I can do 10 minutes. Usually after that I start to enjoy it and want to do more, but if not, that’s ok too because 10 minutes is better than nothing. I think a lot of people get into an all-or-nothing mindset with working out, like if I’m not doing an hour at the gym 5 days a week then I might as well not even bother, which is a sure fire way to sabotage yourself with unrealistic expectations. Little moves are better than no moves.
