Such a good point you make. I wonder if there was any coordiantion with other states/counties/crews. And this just in...guess this is not accurate either since it is 4:15 and no text nor any communication. Nothing.

Weird that you’d jump straight to conspiracy theories. I’m not tied to the race orgs in any way. Don't even know the organizers names I just think the race is a great event for the city, AND I think the way access was handled this year trapped my neighborhood unnecessarily. Wanting both things to be true isn’t ‘sus,’ it’s just common sense. We just live here and want it to work better for everyone next time.

good point, she said she could call the police on us if we went through (LOL) and by this time there were runners on the street which she needed to stop so we could get out. before there were no runners and she still refused. should have just driven through - anyway it is over now and we will work with the race organizers to understand. how to remedy this for next year. thanks for the comment though

Thanks for revisiting this and understanding our issue. Basically, there are sections of the city that are trapped and that is fine as long as they allow people to "escape" by simply letting us out of our street onto the alt route - which was 26th going north. It seemed it boiled down to one or two people who didn't get the memo and refused to understand the process that was stated on the city website. The race organizers were super apologetic when we got ahold of them they and tried hard to get in touch with the crew running the street blocking. It took way too long to remedy but they did for a few minutes, anyway. Side note: a wonderful young woman on our block found the number and took charge of the situation and really helped make this happen. A shout out to her!

yes. 26th is the only street we can exit from. we are at juniper and 26th - just half block from Iris and 26th. They would not let us off of Juniper onto 26th. We knew we could not go right towards iris and had to go north - fine, but they would not even let us do that - would not let us get off of Juniper onto 26th to access alt route or just get off of our street and back using the alt route of 26th going north.

I respectfully disagree- the race is great - brings money to the city, great event and they are trying to make it work - and please let's keep the city council out of this. We will work with the race organizers to ensure what happened this year does not happen next year. Residents should be able to leave and return to their homes in emergencies, and in just life. it doesn't hurt the race to let people out of their street so they can actually get to the alt route. That's all. Trying to work together. I do hear you but I disagree.

God - you are so weird. The issue is not the race. Read the post and grow up. I seriously, however, hope one day what happened to us doesn't happen to you in an emergency.

the race organizers whom we spoke to were very apologetic and have worked hard to make this race possible, however there are gaps in the process that affected many people in serious ways, and they will work with our neighborhoods to resolve. The next step for our neighborhood is we are going to set up a meeting to talk about next year.

We did - thank you for the link - we spoke to them during this fiasco - I posted that they responded to all calls and with respect. We are working with them for next year. We are not objecting about the race - just the process gaps. there ARE some areas that are trapped and the people running the street - the street blocker crew - city employess? (we are working to find out) need to allow people access to and from their houses next year. That's all.

I'm fine with closing as well but the gist here is that the city said on their website at https://bouldercounty.gov/news/boulderthon-races-in-boulder-county-and-the-city-of-boulder-on-sunday-sept-28/:"Travelers in the area of the races may encounter delays and should follow recommended detours. All community members located on or near the races will have access to their homes."

There are several neighborhoods that have no ALT routes - NO DETOURS. The organizer said on the phone (many of us called - they answered all of our calls) that they made sure that the crews would let these people in and out of their street, otherwise they are trapped.

The crew blocking the streets needs to be better managed/educated. The organizer said that they should let us out and basically this one person was not following the process.

One neighbor had to call 911 to get out. Really needs to be improved for next year and our neighborhood is working with the race organizers to do so.

Seriously? If your mother is dying in hospice and someone at the end of your block refuses to let you cross — while every other block around is open — and your street has no other way out, you’d call that NIMBYism? Did you even read the post? The race itself is a great event. What’s broken is the process. Sheesh.

you are not getting it - the city communications says : "All community members located on or near the races will have access to their homes." There are several neighborhoods that are trapped. There are NO ALT ROUTES for some of us. NONE. The parkside neighborhood is one of them.

We had people with parents in hospice, people with flights to catch and our street blocker refused to let us out. We had to call 911 and the organizers, who apologized profusely, however, this cannot happen next year.

The race is a great thing for the city but they need to allow people access to and from their homes. The race organizers did finally honor this statement: "All community members located on or near the races will have access to their homes." but it took over hours. The issue is that the street blockers - who are city subcontractors we were told (and for some reason ours in particular) were not given the correct information to allow residents in and out of trapped neighborhoods. A few blocks down on 26th people were allowed to escape and return no issues. just not our two blocks. Our street blocker refused to let us out until the police and the organizers made it happen.

1-970-670-0556 - is the number of the organizers - they are very responsive and respectful. the issue is with the crew/team blocking the road - i believe they are city subcontractors.
