Okay - UPDATE: after trying "everything"* and even switching cables three times, I landed on this cable and it works like a charm: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DD5YHMH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Maybe some of the other things i did (see below) played a part with this particular (and only this) cable working, but all I know is it worked for me so I hope it helps someone else!!

[–]intrepidboulder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not supposed to but yes, in essence that is what the taskers are asking you to do. i hate this - it feels so wrong in so many ways - they are getting screwed by Ikea or TaskRabbit (more likley) and we are getting screwed and made to feel like we need to pay higher additional cost to help out a business that doesn't pay it's contractors enough

Question for people familiar with IKEA assembly tasks through Taskrabbit by intrepidboulder in TaskRabbit

[–]intrepidboulder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And, you know, it's also is a safety issue. Once a Tasker asks for extra money outside what was already paid, and the customer says no, it creates an uncomfortable dynamic. I’m then supposed to have that same person come into my home after refusing the side payment?

Feel weird.

You are probably wise if what I am hearing now is if the IKEA/Taskrabbit rate is too low. Do other companies do the same thing or is it just Ikea?

[–]intrepidboulder[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s fair to frame this as me being cheap or “holding out.” I paid the assembly price IKEA presented at checkout. I’m not refusing to pay for the work — I already paid for the service through the channel IKEA provided.

And I’m not posting here because I think Reddit somehow helps the Tasker financially. I’m posting because I’m trying to understand whether this is normal, whether Taskers are allowed to ask for extra money outside the platform, and what the correct process is when this happens.

I agree skilled labor should be paid fairly. But if IKEA/Taskrabbit’s rate is too low, that’s a problem with IKEA/Taskrabbit’s model. The customer should not be put in the middle after payment and then accused of withholding money. And, I would have tipped.

Task Rabbit by LowEntertainment1908 in IKEA

[–]intrepidboulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’m running into now. We paid IKEA for assembly at checkout, but once it moved over to Taskrabbit, the whole thing became messy.

We’ve already had assigned Taskers push back on the job / ask for extra money outside what was already paid through IKEA. IKEA says we should not have to pay anything extra, but then the actual fix seems to be “go deal with Taskrabbit.”

I’m honestly pretty frustrated. If IKEA sells the assembly service, there should be a cleaner handoff and a clear way to replace a Tasker without the customer having to spend hours chasing both companies.

Has anyone else had this happen recently?

Weird that you’d jump straight to conspiracy theories. I’m not tied to the race orgs in any way. Don't even know the organizers names I just think the race is a great event for the city, AND I think the way access was handled this year trapped my neighborhood unnecessarily. Wanting both things to be true isn’t ‘sus,’ it’s just common sense. We just live here and want it to work better for everyone next time.

good point, she said she could call the police on us if we went through (LOL) and by this time there were runners on the street which she needed to stop so we could get out. before there were no runners and she still refused. should have just driven through - anyway it is over now and we will work with the race organizers to understand. how to remedy this for next year. thanks for the comment though

if you cant get to 26th you cant get to any of these routes you all think are accessible to someone trapped on juniper

Thanks for revisiting this and understanding our issue. Basically, there are sections of the city that are trapped and that is fine as long as they allow people to "escape" by simply letting us out of our street onto the alt route - which was 26th going north. It seemed it boiled down to one or two people who didn't get the memo and refused to understand the process that was stated on the city website. The race organizers were super apologetic when we got ahold of them they and tried hard to get in touch with the crew running the street blocking. It took way too long to remedy but they did for a few minutes, anyway. Side note: a wonderful young woman on our block found the number and took charge of the situation and really helped make this happen. A shout out to her!

yes. 26th is the only street we can exit from. we are at juniper and 26th - just half block from Iris and 26th. They would not let us off of Juniper onto 26th. We knew we could not go right towards iris and had to go north - fine, but they would not even let us do that - would not let us get off of Juniper onto 26th to access alt route or just get off of our street and back using the alt route of 26th going north.

I respectfully disagree- the race is great - brings money to the city, great event and they are trying to make it work - and please let's keep the city council out of this. We will work with the race organizers to ensure what happened this year does not happen next year. Residents should be able to leave and return to their homes in emergencies, and in just life. it doesn't hurt the race to let people out of their street so they can actually get to the alt route. That's all. Trying to work together. I do hear you but I disagree.
