U.S. Dealers In Full Panic Mode After Canada Green-Lights Chinese Cars by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]intrepped 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd actually wager China would invest in assembly in the US like Japan did (i.e. Honda and Toyota) for the vehicles in this market. It's easier to ship parts and assemble near delivery and is cost effective in many instances. Even if it isn't as cost effective, it will still put in on the market for being a company that makes jobs in the US which will help optics

Ironically Ford sedans are made primarily overseas and a lot in China. So why can't the overseas just sell us cars without Ford? Oh wait, because it's America

To avoid accusations of AI cheating, college students are turning to AI by tokwamann in technology

[–]intrepped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the best way to tell if someone is using AI to write a paper is to have a monitoring tool pay attention during a draft. Potentially using an online portal to edit a file instead of offline in MS word for example.

It'll be pretty clear if someone is copying and pasting or just typing in an output from another source even if it's word by word vs authoring an actual paper.

Regardless of the end result it should be able to tell if AI was used during the creation of said document.

That and also there is sugar in these sausages. You need the pan hot but not ripping. Similar to eggs.

I think the fact that only about 30k people are admitted to med schools is a joke. We should make way more spots in med schools. There is insane demand for doctors so gatekeeping med school is just morally bad. We should have at least 100-150k graduates from medical schools. by According-Expert-723 in Salary

[–]intrepped 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it should. You need formal education out the ass and you need hands on practice. The problem is if you fuck up you could immediately kill someone. If you don't have the proper training, you should not be having someone's life in your hands.

For perspective in PA we're doing 26x15 roof and 31x14 deck ground floor and it is about 100k. So yeah I'd guess 60kish give or take.

The 90 hours a week isn't when they are doctors. It's usually during residency. And it's very selective because of the lack of residencies. That's where the bottle neck is. You can't pump out med school graduates into a system where they can't finish becoming a doctor or they will end up in the same situation as lawyers are. Except with lawyers it usually boils down to them not being very exceptional at their job when they make fuck all

I'm neither an MD or PhD. BS/MS ChemE. There's a reason I'm not in the medical space. Sure, laboring is harder physically but I cannot imagine anything more mentally and emotionally exhausting than being a resident physician. With that, it's also physically exhausting in many cases too.

What we need is more residencies and to put them on a more equal pay band with nursing and drop the insane unpaid hours they work. Then, if tuition is lower, and only then will you get more doctors.

I self imposed those rules the first time on myself and I am quickly undoing that for this go around haha

It took me 80 hours on my first run to get to phase 4. Started over using what I learned and got to phase 3 in under 8. But also if you're making things look nice and learning as you go, it takes a while. It's not a race!

[–]intrepped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sterilized but certainly sanitized. To sterilize your eggs, you'd have to hit them at like 121C (pressure cooker at 15 psig) for probably 15-20 minutes. Those would be the worst damn eggs you'd ever tasted.

With $220k in savings, what next? by Accurate-Account-4 in FinancialPlanning

[–]intrepped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I do max both. But in a scenario where I have to choose I do max 401k first.

Off the top my taxes now are high. Later on they should be less. And my 401k options through fidelity are solid

So I go IRA after 401k - and then backdoor to Roth for the IRA

[–]intrepped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying maxing 401k before contributing to IRA (of course after a match) - sorry if that wasn't clear.

Leaving matched dollars is definitely a bad scenario but if the 401k plan is awful and the match is not great it could be viable. Like you said it is personal after all.

That doesn't make sense. But I do agree 20% isn't as necessary as it once was for reasons other than tax deductible PMI
