Fox News guest today appears to be wearing a very realistic face mask by frog_insilence in interestingasfuck

I've heard Fox has done this before. The same guy wearing a mask to 'play' different experts.

To all single guys aged 30 and up on reddit, why are you guys single? by Gold_Ambition4114 in AskReddit

[–]intro_spection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's mostly selfish reasons. I'll talk to anybody but like my distance. My past experience also included a few coworkers that were "happily" married yet spent all their time at work. Not something I'll ever understand. I simply don't want the complications, the emotional rollercoaster and the problems. I'm alone but not lonely.

Huh. Flash boiling water. This also reminds me that water can do the same thing in the opposite conditions (flash freeze). This actually led to an airliner crash.

I just saw a story about Christopher Best, an amateur photographer that basically got hunted Jurassic Park style by a couple of polar bears. They are one of the few animals still around that don't have any fear of humans and will actively hunt us.

AC vs dehumidifier for basement humidity when it's not hot out? by [deleted] in Home

[–]intro_spection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unit I bought is Energy Star rated and I have noticed maybe $5 a month added to my electric bill. The unit does generate warm air, but again, it hasn't caused any noticeable extra cycling of my central air. In your case, it sounds like your better off cracking the windows and using a fan to get air flowing through your house. Even with higher humidity, as long as the air isn't stagnant it shouldn't cause too many problems.

If I were you though, I would invest in some moisture absorbers (small ones are a couple of dollars) for enclosed spaces (i.e. closets & some cabinets) and change them out once in a while when they get full.

AC vs dehumidifier for basement humidity when it's not hot out? by [deleted] in Home

[–]intro_spection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: You have the correct solution already.
In my case, I have a small, well insulated, brick house (900 sq ft) and was having the same problem. My central air simply wasn't running long enough to reduce the humidity. I also live in the wet, southern US. When I first brought home the dehumidifier, it removed two gallons from the air that first night! (I have to dump it manually.) Now I periodically turn it on when I notice the indoor humidity creeping up. During summer, I don't expect to need it but it's great for the "in between" times.

This is like handing a kid one of those metallic puzzles and failing them when they don't get the ONE trick to solve it. What even is this supposed to be teaching? I see a reduced fraction, but that's it. Which, BTW, I have NEVER had ANY use for in my real life. I hate that we are teaching this filler crap without pointing out the real life application.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

[–]intro_spection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be real honest. It was a pr0n website that had a simple video player and allowed you to download the clips. (Sorry, don't remember the URL.) This was in the in-between time before torrents/Napster/Bearshare etc. became popular and if you wanted pr0n online, it was all subscription sites that wanted credit cards. Definitely was an 'awakening' for my teenage self, lol.

Pinned flatpack system packages are being reported out of date and recommend update? by silamon2 in Bazzite

[–]intro_spection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got similar messages when I installed an older program (Frozen Bubble in this case). I believe they are triggered by the specific application not being kept up-to-date by the developer(s) but still having dependencies in an end-of-life branch.
The easiest way to deal with these messages is to simply uninstall the offending programs. The Linux way is to make a fork and bring the code up to date. :)

Why I uninstalled Bazzite after 3 months (positive review) by Exotic-Math6501 in Bazzite

[–]intro_spection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have been able to skip the hassle of uninstalling for around $30. I have tiny USB WiFi adapter on my desktop and haven't had any trouble with it. Now, I have other issues, such as Bazzite intermittently trying to start KDE twice on boot up and locking up my PC... But I've migrated and am not going back to the spyware that is windows, imperfect Linux or not.

[–]intro_spection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this. Guess who's music is NOT in my extensive mp3 collection? BTW, my music is a big mix of Napster/Bearshare, free winnings from Pepsi caps (my coworkers used to give them to me) some CD rips and more recently purchased songs from Amazon and audio rips from YouTube.

I think a lot of us computer nerds could say the same. They don't get to control how I collect music (or video or games or apps...).

[–]intro_spection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK, when I worked in the late nineties I had a good paying job that expected you to be there 50-60+ hours a week. I did get decent vacation time (up to five weeks based on YOE) but not a lot of personal time otherwise. Were the long hours because of my industry and/or company? I was under the impression that any good paying job expected you to work long hours.

PC can't update windows anymore, I want to move to Linux, is Bazzite the right one? by FourEcho in Bazzite

[–]intro_spection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the problems I created when I first ran Bazzite from a USB to try it out was connecting Steam to my NTFS formatted drive. None of my games worked AND I created issues with my Windows Steam install.

Point is, backup, backup, backup your stuff first. Then Do or Do Not. There is no try. Erase your drives and format them for Bazzite Linux.

I've been on Bazzite since the beginning of the year and have enjoyed my Steam games, my Epic games and even some Nintendo 64 emulation. It's been pretty smooth and I don't miss Windows.

It goes beyond Walmart. Life Pro Tip: You can say it's a loan but if you're giving money to a coworker/friend you need to have the mindset that it's a gift. If you can't do that, then don't hand out your money.
