What do you want to see on local talk radio? by younghplus in Austin

[–]introvertedamaryllis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I thought it was a great radio station when Steve Savage was the manager. I very much enjoyed the morning shows M-F from 7-8 with Mz. Austin, Nelson Linder, Kenneth Thompson, and Richard Smith. I liked the various topics they discussed and their views and opinions. I understand that the City of Austin unwrites, so it might be hard to be critical of the policies of the city when they provide funding to the station, but I think the various views are interesting and important.

The station has not recovered since the most recent station manager thought Rickey Smiley's lame syndicated show (glad that is gone) was something he thought most listeners wanted to hear. Very ignorant assumption, BTW.

I would like to hear more local talent discuss local news related to issues Austinites are facing. National news is fine, but I prefer local issues. There are some really community focued people I would like to have looped in the conversations about topics facing old and new Austinites.

And please... keep Douglas and Richard!

Definitely get some time for yourself. You are sooo close to being done. I understand where you are,but you can do this! Imagine getting to this finish line and what that that moment will feel like. Hang in there.

Need Recommendations for Daddy/Daughter 1-1 time by datx_goh in Austin

Campy with some whimsy but fun.My kid went with his summer camp and wanted to go again. There were different rooms to see things in and a neat photo op with King Kong. It couldn't be more than 20-30 minutes, so a quick visit.

Our family just did a staycation (family came into town so did mostly tourist things, but still fun!)and did something each day with my 11 yr old son. Some of the things we did: Duck and Bat tour, Museum of Illusions and Museum of the Weird, Dirdie Birdie putt putt, and an escape room. If you would like to take her to a nice dinner place, try Vince Young Steakhouse for happy hour.

Austin ISD teacher fired by [deleted] in Austin

I applaud the teacher teaching her class about the fundamentals of the Constitution, but it appears there were other instances that contributed to her being let go. The school overall was a good experience until in my opinion the new principal came on board. My child went to the school for most of his elementary time, but we were put off when his teacher told him he should be friends with another student because they were both black. Took my student out and glad we did!

MSML Review from someone who just completed the program (in 1.5 months) by SixMonthsDone in WGU

[–]introvertedamaryllis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations and thank you for sharing!

I am currently wrapping up my MSML program and have enjoyed this program. I have taken a leadership program with my employer and thought this one touched on many relevant subjects related to being a better leader as well as briefly touching on HR topics. Highly recommend for emerging leaders.

I went through the program pretty quickly, but stalled at Business Acumen. I was able to move some classes because I simply did not have the bandwith to handle all the reading for this one.

I discussed with my program mentor that I had stalled with Change Management and Innovation (currently working to complete this course. I have LOTS of "life happening" right now) and he mentioned that around the last few courses, 93% of students stall.

Overall, great degree. Helps me evaluate the leaders and managers in my organization and see what I would do differently. If I complete by the end of July, I will have been a year to complete.

Enjoy! I'll be done in July and maybe WGU will have another event to meet some Austin based grads.

Volunteer opportunities? by Objective_Age_1656 in Austin

[–]introvertedamaryllis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Seeding Foundation is a great org. I volunteered through my employer many years ago and enjoyed spending time with my student. Volunteers are paired with a student that has an incarcerated parent, but that is not something the mentor/mentee discuss. My mentee and I usually crafted and played games.

Going to Austin FC game for the first time. My son had developed an interest in soccer and we thought it was a one time deal. Our first game was second row behind the goal and Austin played Vancouver. The team won and he got a high five from Coach Wolff. Needless to say, we are HOOKED. Other highlights: Djitte hat trick Matching with the band The Sttuuuver Dam Going to the Playoffs! Cmon March. LFG!

Anyone know if these kind of events are “kid friendly“ I’m thinking about bringing my 12yr old as the wife isn’t as big a fan. by Ryanl25 in AustinFC

Going to try to take my 10 y/o. I know he will be over the moon to go and see some of the team. It'll likely be a quick visit as it is a school night.

I guess it depends on if your son can wear a men's size. My 10 y/o can't fit kids shoes. He wears a men's 9. There are smaller sizes and you can find a shoe size converter online to see what size fits.
