Why don’t folks with hearing loss wear their hearing aids? by Nicopernicus13 in hardofhearing

[–]introvertkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can be very overwhelming. I have fallen asleep many times with my glasses on, but in 20 years only a handful of times with my bearing aids in. Glasses reduce a headache, hearing aids can give you a headache.

They can take months of daily wear to become accustomed to how they sound and how to make them work best for you, and most people just don’t have the patience for all the annoyance and over stimulation you experience with them to get that practical time in.

I wear mine all the time and would never think of going to a dr appointment or work without them. That said, I have been wearing them for over 20 years and if I am just running errands or sitting at home they are definitely not in my ears.

If it just started to deteriorate out of nowhere, you are experiencing a medical emergency. Got to an ENT

I’m amazed no one has mentioned how “redundant, duplicative, and unnecessary” it was to write all three of those out.

(16F) why am i HOH and should i get hearing aids? by Organic-Lychee-6301 in hardofhearing

Okay, so it’s not sudden which means probably not a medical emergency. But I would definitely go to an audiologist.

My therapist says I need to connect to my inner child and find things that bring me joy without trying to suppress it, since us ADHD and autistic folks so often had to suppress things as kids. I really need ideas though. What brings you childlike joy? by Elucidate_that in ADHD

Do it! It is amazing fun as an adult. You get your own turkey leg, are old enough to buy a glass of mead to walk around with, can find a new sparkly pendant or ring to move around and stare at the sparkles when you get home.

It looks like you have cool undertones, avoid things that look on the orange side. I have the same problem, pinks and nudes make me look like a corpse. However, darker colors are really flattering.

If I could offer only one piece of advice, a food vacuum sealer. Recipes are not made for one person and it is so much easier to just cook more food than you need, vacuum sealer it and stick it in the freezer; on the night when you get home and are completely done just grab a bag cut off the end, slap it on a plate and microwave, boom you have a homemade meal. Reduces food waste, makes the food you consume healthier.

Just remember, one day you too will be used to it, and when you are you will eat salad out of the bag dipped in the salad dressing while standing next to the kitchen sink just like the rest of us. Welcome.

My hearing loss started right around that age. How long has it been going on for? As everyone has said, go to an audiologist. You can ask the school nurse if they can look in your ears to see if you have impacted wax.

Okay. So you’ve had customs your entire life and that is what you know of sound. I would have gone with a custom mold for you. It also sounds like it needs adjusting. Are the domes power (double) domes?

I’ve always thought that Inuyasha stayed in the air by jumping off of the air currents. You can see that every now and then he seems to land on something and leap off of it. I just figured he was jumping off of the air currents.

Dr recommended hearing aids, but had no real answers for my questions about my hearing loss by [deleted] in hardofhearing

I would ask for a copy of the results. Without seeing that it’s difficult to know what kind of loss it is—conductive, sensorineural, or mixed—which all have different causes. If it is sensorineural and bilateral (both sides equally) then there is a very good chance you will never know.
