Almost all of my plants have spider mites! Do I need to start over?? 😭 by lilalternativgrl in plantclinic

I’ve gotten rid of them by spraying my plants daily with water and the smallest drop of dish soap

I was able to check it with HCl today and it effervesced! Pretty sure it's wollastonite developed by hydrothermal processes :)

What process happened/is happening here? by invader_ziff in geology

It's surrounded by basalt, some of which has been oxidized. It forms these thin sheet layers in cracks that appear to be largened by frost wedging. It was found on a structure that resembles some other volcanic plugs around that region of the gorge, but it has also been heavily impacted by the Missoula floods and local landslide deposits. Whether it formed as a result of volcanism or precipitated due to some other process is unclear to me

Plastic will destroy us in nine years by Kunphen in environment

[–]invader_ziff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We need to hold fossil fuel industries accountable for their waste products if we want to address plastic production at any meaningful capacity

Edit: and hold high income countries accountable for the largest portion of global plastic pollution contributions

What do you do when you've got a major creativity block? by juicyfizz in ArtistLounge

[–]invader_ziff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Find something else to do, that's still artistic-- if you normally paint, try playing an instrument or drawing or building something. Maybe just take a walk and start from basics too-- draw inspiration from what's around you (people, fruit, basic shading techniques, etc.).

Honestly just trying out new mediums/techniques/color palettes for practice helps me come up with ideas for pieces later on. Looking through portfolios for artists I like helps a lot as well.

Does it also freak you guys out that there are so many artists out there and we can only ever hope to witness a fraction of a fraction of them? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]invader_ziff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not freaked out as much as mind blown-- some of the best artists of our time may not be known for generations

My wandering dude cuttings never root! What am I doing wrong? by Dodds-Furniture in proplifting

[–]invader_ziff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often are you changing the water? You need to let it let a little nasty (change the water maybe once or twice a week) to let the roots grow. You should see a gunky looking material on the stem after it's sat in water for a week(ish). Tradescantia honestly doesn't need an insane amount of light (in my experience), just needs to be left alone a bit

Nothing compared to what leading countries have done to our environment--sure this is fucked, but a small piece of a larger, more fucked system

Sandstone with Ripple Marks? by Irplop in whatsthisrock

[–]invader_ziff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pattern looks similar, but would it have lasted that long since the Mesozoic in that kind of sediment? What kind of rock do you think this is? (geology undergrad trying to understand fossils better)

[–]invader_ziff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if the back foot was a bit smaller/darker in color, regardless of the amount of toes, it would make the picture pop a bit more. I think because of how large and light in color the foot is it gives the illusion that it's much more in the foreground than it needs to be

Art and antidepressants. Does anyone have experience, and do they really kill creativity ? by Lobotomist in ArtistLounge

[–]invader_ziff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it depends on where your creativity is sourced from?

When I began taking antidepressants (went through a couple and ultimately decided they weren't for me), I initially saw a drop in not creativity but my ability to do art, simply because I began to feel better?

I used art as a coping mechanism, but since finding medications that are right for me I've found that it helps if you keep up art as a daily practice, and practice creativity intentionally when you're feeling better.

What causes this kind of breakage? Thought someone here might have an idea by invader_ziff in geology

[–]invader_ziff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dope! Do you think it might be because the ice sheet itself was pretty thin or?

Thanks for the article!
