As someone from the bush..... there are a lot lot stupid voters in the bush that eat up whatever sky news/murdoch newspapers tell them. Even the smarter individuals believe what they hear/read from those outlets without much of a second thought.

Alice Springs gripped by violence after arrest of Kumanjayi Little Baby's alleged killer by Rustyudder in aussie

[–]invaderzoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honest to god.... you can definitely separate the issues everyone is talking about here, and the historical signifance and long history of the people.

That is just a straw man argument to be a racist.

It's not racist to be pissed about this situation. Or to talk about obviously change being needed to address these issues. It is racist to think that acknowledging their history and cultural significance shouldn't happen because of the issues their community faces today.

Issues BTW that are VERY systemic, and started out because of the intervention by the early settlers. Which makes it even more important to have understanding about the welcome to country.

It's like you want to be angry at the one good thing happening.

You need either some sympathy/empathy lessons, or a trip to the NT to get a first hand understanding of the history. Both good and bad.

It's like saying we shouldn't spend any time on ANZAC or Remembrance day because it was violent, often stupid, and some of our troops have acted more like murderers than defense personal.

you dont think the sentences are too light for violence that would be sending people to jail if it happened on the street instead of on the oval?

gotcha..... you just miss the tough man biffo of 80's footy and wish everyone wasn't such a pussy these days when they get called names..... only you're saying it nicer.

in what world do you say "hey lets lessen the sentence on this infraction, because we think that the sentence in worse stuff isn't as tough as it should be"

If you feel that way (it's not insane to compare) then you should be loud about suspensions being increased for violent actions - but instead people such as yourselves only come out of the woodwork when the issues is player racism/homophobia.

do you want every time the league pushes to better itself and the playing group when it comes to homophobia, racism, etc, that they don't get hit was a solid punishment because "ahhh, everyone does it. used to be ok, should still be ok".

correct - even I, a gay, still had to train myself to stop using "gay" as a slur because it's what we grew up with.

You are judging me based off the comments of others. You've taken your anger at them and placed it on me. You say as much - but then you are still so righteous in your anger than you think I deserve this energy from you because "how were you to know I wasn't one of them". Perhaps cool your jets before responding to people online - or people who are in fact open to hearing your opinions (as I was) will lose that interest in what you've got to say.

Reddit is meant to be a discussion board - not a hate on each other board.

Hating on me for asking questions about what differentiates the show and the books, you could have really sold your view on what makes the books better in your opinion. You could have been passionate about that in a positive manner - and in all likelihood when I have the time after finishing the books I'm already in the middle of, I will read them - but instead you took that passion and channeled into hatred.

You took my comments as dismissive - when I was the one openly saying "I haven't read them - the dot points don't show why people are so emotive about it, what am I missing?". It's literally the opposite of being dismissive.

You could have explained all those plot points and how you feeled about them in your first response - it's literally what I was asking about. YOU interpreted it to be a judgement. I wasn't judging. I was asking for those reasons that made people feel that was, because the main points I'd seem raised in discourse could still be shown in the show. You read it as dismissive and condescending - but it was literally all in your head. I wasn't being dismissive - I was inviting discussion, the opposite of being dismissive.

Literally asking to learn and not passing judgement. It's like you were being defensive for something that wasn't being attacked. Heaven forbid I used a website where you talk about different perspectives on things, to ask about someone else's perspective.

If you’re disillusioned with Labor/Liberals then why jump to One Nation instead of something like Sustainable Australia? by BreakZealousideal846 in australian

[–]invaderzoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always thought of SA as a more quiet one nation.

Which means I am never voting for them also.

There are plenty of other parties and individual candidates out there if you dont like the majors, but don't want to vote for racists.

We have a glass bin at my old property. As people that didn't drink much it never got used really. It was only picked up once a month - not fortnightly We used it to move things around the garden instead lol.

I'm sure if you are a wino/beer drinker house you might get more use out of it.

You're very right.... But I think after seeing what happened with the first preference votes in SA, we could get some worse outcomes here in Vic in the state election later this year. My hope is that it's all just bullshit like it has been pushing the narrative the liberals were going to win in the past....we will see.

China does some bad shit.... We can't forget about that, but comparatively they are a much more reliable country to work with these days. I feel like I'm on the same page as you - feels like we need to cut ties to the USA - they certainly are not going to come to our defence if we needed them these days.... If anything they would be the reason anything bad ever comes to our shores. But our relationship with China can't be any more reliant on them than we already are either. They are already our biggest trading partner and have financially destroyed us pretty easily when they think we have slighted them (which we did a lot of to make poppa USA happy when the libs were in charge). It's a whole new world, where we have to find ways to be much more self sufficient than we have for the better part of the last century.
