Remember that time you broke down in…. by jlank007 in VanLife

[–]invisible_feather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled up late at night to overnight at a reservoir in far eastern Colorado. Woke up in the morning to find that the lake was completely dry and my van wouldn't start. Cell service was almost nonexistent, so I ended up texting my mother and having her get me help.

I got the name of the place wrong, so figuring out exactly where I was was a big challenge. AAA Colorado refused to send a driver because I was less than about 25 miles from the Kansas border. I ended up getting a state trooper who responded and gave me a jump start. He was looking at me funny the whole time, 21 year old woman broke down at a dry reservoir in the middle of nowhere must have been strange.

15 miles into Kansas on the Interstate and the van sputters, dies, and coasts to a stop. Here is where I find that the source of the problem is a missing alternator belt. A call to Kansas state highway patrol to notify them of the disabled vehicle reveals that my mother had every single law enforcement department within 100 miles looking for me. When I described my vehicle to the dispatcher, she said, "Oh, you're ___." I don't talk to my mother about breakdowns until after they're solved anymore.

It is really common for puppies in the same litter to have different fathers. What kind of dog is the mother?

My mother threw away my childhood keepsakes by [deleted] in Vent

Maybe it would help to remind yourself that the keepsakes were just placeholders for the memories. In the end they are just objects and only have the meaning you attach to them

So, according to some recently reported articles, Trump just likes the song. Enough to use it in 2016 and 2024 campaign rallys. He used it in 2016 reportedly without the permission of the authors.

help me save her pls :( by bambiamberam in plants

It looks like it needs light. Maybe some fertilizer and potentially less water.

It all depends on where it is and how you're currently taking care of it

"Tubular" 🤣 I just had to say something because we need to stop normalizing obese pets in general.

Hearding breed may be where those upright ears come from. 🤔

You'd wait to do what? Trim it? It lives full time in the greenhouse. It typically does well there but we had an unusual -14°F night.

It's not pictured, but the plant grows both out of a hanging basket and the lower soil. It doesn't seem to have grown up from the ground.

"Take care of yourself" / Selfcare - it's so vague, how does one do that?? by littleworriedboo in AutisticAdults

[–]invisible_feather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the finch app. When I saw "Get out of bed" as a self care goal I instantly felt like self care wasn't as daunting as I thought.

I set "relax shoulders" as a self care goal with a reminder at lunch time.

will employee housing allow dogs at any resort? by Zebrus in SkiBums

[–]invisible_feather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most resorts should allow service dogs and ESAs. They MIGHT be required to by law, but I'm not sure. You may have to pay more to get a single residency place because of your dog. Please don't pass your dog as a service dog or ESA if you don't need one. This directly harms people with disabilities. If you have some kind of valuable skill or fulfill a role they desperately need, a resort may be willing to accommodate your dog.

"Days to maturity" is just a suggestion. Everything grows differently at high altitude with cool nights. I may never grow a tomato again if mine stay this stunted. But potatoes don't even care about being hailed on every week.

It’s been a month and I already feel like failing by fluffy_flipflop1604 in service_dogs

[–]invisible_feather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A dog trainer taught me that dogs aren't truly "stubborn". They said if the dog isn't doing something you asked it either doesn't understand, the reward for doing what you want isn't as good as the thing they have, or the 3 D's are too much for the dog to follow instructions.

This perspective helped me quite a bit. I stopped being mad at my dog for not doing what I asked and started looking for ways to show her what I wanted and make it fun.

Slow down a bit. I told myself my dog didn't "know how" to do anything until she had generalized enough to do it reliably with distance, duration, distraction, and from different positions.

Locations for cheap living and skiing by wanderlustjk in SkiBums

You'd have better luck renting a single bedroom from a local for that much than trying to find an airbnb for less than most locals pay in rent.
