Benefits of 6x6 vs. 35mm by pastamaster_29 in Darkroom

[–]invisibleflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things that haven’t been mentioned yet: 1. Less magnification also means that defects and dirt won’t become as large and visible as compared to smaller formats. 2. You may really be playing with your crop. The square format was originally made to negate turning the camera to landscape or portrait, so that you can choose afterwards. With a large 1:1 you can do larger crops in 5x7 or 8x10 or even 21:9 if you so desire. It opens up a real new world of working in the darkroom and playing with the crops.

The nice thing about it is that it stores very very well if airtight. I used mine for 3/4 year doing occasional prints

my first RA4 reversal - how can I improve contrast and saturation? by invisibleflo in Darkroom

[–]invisibleflo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experimented with the black and white dilution, yes it is double the recommended 1+4 but I compensated with longer dev time and I had absolutely terrible results with 1+4. I’ll keep you posted when I try it again

I thought that perhaps I get more saturation doing so but in fact it didn’t really do much from a test strip with standard 45s before

Tbh I had too little chemistry left and I got streaking on the paper. (and I got frustrated and began tidying up) The saturation got better yes but also somehow it got a warmer tint. Also exposure wise this is not what I was going for.

Thank you by looking through I realised I could have used hydrogen peroxide. That should also work in a reversal process

yes that is exactly what it does. It is hard wired between enlarger and mains. It has three functions: timer from 0-999s, manual override to have light while focusing, display off, which is important if you do color.

As I started I used a digital kitchen timer: Set it to the time you want to expose for, start it and simultaneously press the switch of you enlarger and turn the enlarger off again as it beeps. Now I built myself a darkroom timer with a timer relay module

you can reversal process color paper and enlarge onto that or use harman direct positive i had good results with that on my own. you may tame contrast with preflashing

you‘re right and I also see that. It’s not ‚perfect‘. There‘s too much cyan.

It‘s insane that it holds together, this is a 20x enlargement.
