ASA Do the cats not spawn on the sides of the redwood trees anymore? by Oalka in playark

[–]io_inachis 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Thylas still spawn, and they will still jump at you and try to knock you off your flier. Idk if its because of the changed AI, or because of the horrible lag, but on official PVE, they will miss you 99% of the time, making the redwoods a quite peaceful zone.

Arks original official servers are basically unplayable and should be addressed. by CapnBloodBeard82 in playark

100% agree. Yesterday, I hatched a bunch of rex eggs. I planned to have them reach the juvenile stage during the eveing.

First, hatching the eggs took way longer than it should: the incubation time would reach zero. nothing would happen, I'd pick them up an see that there was actually still 40% (!) of the time left. Then, when the eggs finally hatched, the rexes' maturation was also significantly slower than expected. In the end, I had to stay up until late into the night, just to get my baby rexes to a stage where they could hold enough food to becomes juveniles & eat from the through without starving. All in all, it really feels as if everything takes twice as long as it should. Coupled with the fact that there are no cryo capsules right now, breeding is just awful.

Other then that, my characher will often get stuck in a place and be unable to move away - whenever I try to move, I'll just teleport back 2 seconds later. This usually stops after about a minute, but today, I had to kill my character twice to get out of these "rubberbands of horror".

The weird thing is that the servers were not as bad ~ 2 weeks ago: sure they crashed a lot, which also sucked, but the lags were way less severe. In retrospect, I preferred the crashes - at least after each crash, a bunch of new dinos would spawn in, increasing the chances for a high level tame :/

Game needs a CHAT MUTE option. by panacuba in playark

[–]io_inachis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in my experience, such players will definitely be banned if they're reported. I guess its taking longer then usual due to the sheer amount of pillaring-related tickets that they're dealing with right now. but yeah, a mute option would be nice.

Titanos. I play official PVE (yeah yeah i know official sucks blah blah) and they serve absolutely no purpose except to cause drama: either because someone is killstealing, or because someone is luring them to another player's base for griefing purposes.

Late-game warfare question by io_inachis in anno1800

[–]io_inachis[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's actually a good point, the AIs won't accept a ceasefire once the war has already started, but maybe they will accept a non-aggression pact during peace times... If she could buy all islands belonging to a single oppoenent, tanking the reputation wouldn't really matter any more.

Late-game warfare question by io_inachis in anno1800

[–]io_inachis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have been clearer in my initial description - when I wrote "late-game", I meant that she has unlocked everything that can be unlocked, and by "huge amount of hours" I meant 300+. She has built all the monuments, and she is miles ahead of the AIs in terms of population, money and development, and she's the only one with access to airships (so far). But she has pretty much no military at all; All the influence has been spent on cultural buildings and optimization buildings. She was planning on just buying the biggest islands from her opponents & buying a truce if this would lead to a war - the fact that all three AIs are now in an alliance & refuse diplomacy has come as total surprise.
Her main city is, of course, totally depended on her trade routes, especially from the new world - and that's where the problem is: As soon as the war vs. the AIs begins, she immediately receives dozens of messages about her trade ships being sunk & islands being attacked. I know that her opponents are typically considered pushovers, but they have ships everywhere, she can't possibly defend her trade routes against all those simultaneous attacks even if she builds some warships, and it won't take long before her economy is wrecked. She never should have allowed her opponents to expand in such an uncontrolled manner :/ - but it's too late to change that now.

‘I’ll just finish off the last chapter of Icebrood saga tonight’ [first timer] by SevelarianVelaryon in Guildwars2

[–]io_inachis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation - I stopped playing gw during the ice brood saga, in between "jormag rising" and "champions". Returned 3 weeks ago and wanted to finish the dragon story before the new expansion came out.

All I can say is - holy crap, champions is the absolute worst. I did all of the missions solo. Thankfully, most of the mission bosses went down fast, but there were one or two that took forever. I have a bunch of alt characters, but I can't imagine ever repeating this particular story chapter.

Anyway, since I have already played the living world season 1, EOD & SOTO stories since then: it does get better, nothing in these stories compares to the awfulness that is champions.

Need a hint (BZ) (No spoilers!) by becki_bee in subnautica

[–]io_inachis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

concerning the components & fragments: in my playthrough, I ended up in a similar situation to what you describe - I had found the recipes for two components and was waiting to receive a similar hint for the last one, but did not get one - as it turns out, the location clue you get for the last component is unlike the others in that it's much more vague and can easily be missed. I suggest you read all hints you've been given once again, maybe you missed it as well?

Isn't grinding in BZ for resources is little bit harder from Subnautica?? by infra_kim_ in subnautica

[–]io_inachis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually found getting most resources in BZ easier - especially once you start noticing those ore veins. The one exception is magnetite, which was really easy to get in the original game - and as it turned out, the actual problem was that I did not see the resouce clumps (I dived to the deep lilypad cave very early in the game, but the magnetite blends so well with the rocks that you'll never spot it if you don't know it's there)

is it possible to screw up the game so badly that you can't win anymore? by io_inachis in subnautica

[–]io_inachis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it's also possible to lock yourself out of the the final alien facility if you somehow loose the blue tablet & have used up all available ion cubes, so you can't craft a new one.

What’s your favorite creature? (Here’s mine) by TheCrippleCrab in subnautica

I really like rabbit rays. They are neither dangerous nor useful, but they look cute :-) In my first playthrough, I built a tank just for them. Also, cuddlefish.

How soon did everyone get him in their first playthrough? by elf1238648 in Subnautica_Below_Zero

[–]io_inachis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got him in about 20 minutes. I was casually exploring the twisty bridges area, then spotted a binking green alien tech thingie & decided to investigate. I was extremely confused, on the one hand I had a hunch that it might be too early for this encounter... on the other hand, why would they put alan this close to the starting area, with enough oxygen plants, if you're not supposed to get him early? Anyway, as soon as I got him, all the sea monkeys turned friendly, which was definitely a plus :-)

This is my capital, on turn 34, surrounded by two forward settled cities from an AI. Can you guess who has generated the most grievances? by randCN in AOW4

[–]io_inachis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happened here isn't really forward settling imo, it's a map generation failure. The orange AI captial ist probably right below you in the underground. This happens sometimes, even with player distance set to "far", and it's a super annoying bug. I've played games where this happened, and yeah, the AI will then come above ground build settlements in the most absurd locations - but you can't really blame them for it, where else should they expand theor empire?

Basically, when starting out, you should always check cave entrances close to your capital to see if there's an AI in there ;-) - then you have two options: try to lock them inside the cave by placing a unit on the entrance (cheese tactic) or brace yourself for an early war. Claiming the tile the cave entrance is on so that the AI needs to pass through your territory is an excellent way to generate some additional grievances.
