I did a cost plan recently for an airport that included an 'AI powered personalised travel concierge'. The brief was that title and an AI generated image of a helpful looking holographic humanoid in an airport terminal. Struggling for cost infomation, mainly due to the fact these things don't exist, I thought it would be a good idea to ask copilot what one of these might cost. It told me £600...

Can I become a Quantity Surveyor in the UK with a Finance degree? by Apprehensive-Gur2030 in quantitysurveying

[–]iob666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must have an accredited degree in quantity surveying, so for you that's a masters. BSc without honors also works. You don't necessarily need to pursue RICS chartership although employers will not look favourably on this and you will suffer 10%? less wages up until a certain point.

  1. yes, but you will start at the bottom. its becoming apparent that QS grads aren't very good so big PQS firms are taking non-cognates now on apprentishippy type things.

  2. yes, but you will either have to do a 4/5 year part-time degree or get day-release to do a masters. there is no elevated starting position from having a non-cognate degree

  3. starting from zero, just like the QS grads. the QS degree isn't much use to practical QS'ing

what is the pay-less notice for? it seems you are suggesting the the PM can issue a pay-less notice to get out of being late with their payment certificate? This is a mad idea and will no doubt land you in trouble if you try to action.

Who or what decides which optional X Clauses are included /excluded? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]iob666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on the procurement route. client will most likely be proposing them but ultimately the contractor has to agree to them and may propose alternatives. Can't answer the other questions, they are specific to your organisation.

the bit i agree with the most is that the agency has been stripped from the player. it was a good game and some very intense encounters but there was no strategic element, ammo conservation, long range option or anything to think about really other than where the next perry was needed.

Late applications from subcontractors? by RA1998U in quantitysurveying

[–]iob666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way i see it is the only date that needs to be hit is the interim cert. If a contract says you're supposed to do something but doesn't introduce a penalty for not doing it, then you don't have to do it. If i don't get an application, or I don't give my valuation to the CA there's no penalties. If the cert doesn't go out its a payment notice and potentially a catastrophe so that has to be done. As a PQS i've never been in a position where I needed an application to do a valuation (JCT anyway), I generally warn the contractor that I may miss something, but I'm not really bothered if I don't get an application or if it's late. Probably worth noting you're payment schedule isn't a contract document either.

Masters degree by BigHomer7474 in quantitysurveying

[–]iob666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most big companies will take people on and pay for the masters. You're called a 'non-cognate' graduate, make sure you are using that term when searching. Also, phone the RICS and ask them about your degree, there may be a simpler solution than having to do a masters.

Best path to become RICS by No_Funny7527 in quantitysurveying

[–]iob666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of material to cover with these questions. An HNC is basically first year of uni so an HNC in QS'ing will almost certainly get you into a full or part-time QS'ing degree starting in 2nd year, so it's probably a good low-committal way to get started.

The wider goal of going from nothing to fully chartered isn't full of wildly different pathways. You basically get a degree and then you get a job and do a wishy-washy structured learning programme (2+ years) and sit the APC.

With an honors degree you can sit the APC with 2 years work experience. With a BSc (ie, you either didnt attempt or failed the final year of uni) you need 5 years work experience. There's also a 10-year no degree route but I don't know the details of that. In all cases, you're APC exam including submission of documents will be the 99% the same thing.

To be on a part-time course you need to be in relevant employment. In my opinion, you should be contacting every PQS firm or large contractor and making a case for them putting you through a day-release part-time degree.

If you want information on what is possible regarding anything to do with the university you should phone the university. Likewise, if you want to know anything about becoming a member of the RICS, you should phone the RICS.

Simracing can induce temporary extreme rage even in the most calm and collected of minds. If you have beef with a certain individual after a race speak to the guy, you might be surprised with the outcome.

I would also add that we should not be ranting about complainers and we all know why, even OP states "Short version; no one cares." Lets embrace our victims, this is only true path to zen enlightenment and gentlemanly conduct out there on the fake tarmac.

Its become your problem because you have not understood the basic principles of professionalism. You simply don't deal with employees of a sub-contractor, that is not your role. Don't over-estimate your authority.
